Anyone gave up?

Nervous_Toe_1080 | 2025-12-17 17:39 | 30 views

UK Has anyone gave up on byd yet? And handed the car back? I’ve recently purchased the seal u dmi and after various faults including the knocking sound from the driveshaft I’m just about done in. Just wondering if anyone has had multiple faults and handed the car back?

If you include your country, you might get relevant advice on consumer law on your jurisdiction.

No, we’ve had the seal and sealion 7 since September and both have been excellent

Far_Association9513 2025-12-17 19:10

We have Seal U DM-i (awd) from August and did not had any issues with it at all

No-Sympathy3276 2025-12-17 19:37

I was perhaps understandably anxious about buying a BYD, given they are new to the U.K. market. I was happy to take a chance, given the volumes they have produced in China and I had read a lot of great things about the company. I have had my Sealion 7 for six months now. So far zero issues and am genuinely shocked at how good the vehicle is. Completely exceeded my expectations. Really sorry to hear your experience. That must be awful. Hopefully it is a rare occurrence!

My experience is identical to yours.

potatodrinker 2025-12-17 20:40

Sealion 6 in Australia. No issues

dXeption 2025-12-17 20:49

I feel like I'm reading a lot of issues only relating to the lower model variants, a lot in the UK too. Anywho, I have a friend at work and we both got Sealion 6s together. He had a strange kink sound come from the wheelbase whenever he'd steer ALL the way left or right, he brought this in to the shop and they were aware of the issue already, they ordered the parts on the spot and told him to come in next week for repair. He did, and now it's gone.

shoulders_UK 2025-12-17 21:01

Had my Seal U dmi since Feb. No issues and happy. Previously a 20yr Audi customer before this purchase.

I think OP sadly just became part of the statistic that says nothing can be 100% perfect. There's gotta be outliers with problems, and you seem to have gotten one of those. The same happens to Toyota, Ford, Hyundai and actually all products ever made in human history. There are going to be defective ones. The post sales services are also never ever going to be 100% perfect. Some people will have better or worse experience when dealing with any problems the car may have. It could be a little bit more consistent if we cars were sold directly by manufacturers, like Tesla, but that's just not the case in most of the world. Also, just saying, you still got a freaking combustion engine in there with everything that implies. It's no excuse, but it's also a fact that those thing just cannot be as reliable as a BEV.

No, not at all. Seal u DmI comfort 6500km since August. No issues no claim. What noise from the driving shaft. There were several people in byd-seal-forum.de (Germany) There is a threat about a clicking noise when turning. Some have it turning right, left or both. I had it too. It was only noticable in slow speeds, only by coincidence. Most people noticed it in public garage during parking, due of the echo in the garage. However, I noticed it once my wife came home and I was expecting her in the garage which is in an 90° angle to the road. Means you turn in left or right. However in the community they were collecting different analysis from BYD dealers. From changing axes to shaft everything was done. But one guy found out a simple reason for the clicking, after he explained all people who remained with it, went to BYD with the solution other made it simply themself, because its easy to solve, when your are able to remove your wheel. I'm not sure if that clicking I mean and they discussed is connected somehow, what you call noise in driving shaft. However needs translation: https://www.byd-seal-forum.de/forum/thread/1059-klacken-beim-wenden-sofern-man-voll-die-lenkung-einschl%C3%A4gt/?pageNo=7 Solution is simple. You need a 320 sandpaper (1-2min) and chance to take of the wheel(s). Explained why the issue is causing that clicking is to complicated in here. Here some pictures and explained (need translation) https://www.byd-seal-forum.de/forum/thread/1059-klacken-beim-wenden-sofern-man-voll-die-lenkung-einschl%C3%A4gt/?pageNo=5

Atto3 since 2023 in New Zealand, covered 60k km to date. Had the heat pump compressor replaced under warranty 1 year in, just now the steering rack is getting replaced under warranty. Overall the car provides good value and having a well-established dealer support network helps.

daaaaneeeey 2025-12-17 21:32

Thought about returning my Sealion 7 cause of vibration problems while driving 100-130kph. Dealer tried to fix the issue 4 times but cant handle it ... after changing the tyres the problem was solved - paid by myself and refund from michelin ...

K_teto 2025-12-17 21:54

I've had mu dolphon surf since August and the experience has been excellent, it even exceeded my expectations.

eli56 2025-12-17 21:58

Owner of a song pro since january almost 30k in the odometer, no problem so far (México).

Thanks for the comments, gives me a bit of hope if the dealer pulls through with the repair. The car is nice but I suppose it’s like anything, if something new broke in 1500 miles you’d start to question it

Actual_Put4333 2025-12-17 22:44

Still love mine. I’m close to giving up on our Audi Q6. The BYD is an absolute pleasure compared to the Audi.

SexyDraenei 2025-12-17 22:47

Not heard of anyone having any serious issues at all, so no.

Status_Atmosphere_11 2025-12-17 23:00

Sealion 7 (Aus) with 12000kms no faults or issues.

FelixtheFarmer 2025-12-17 23:02

Thanks for sharing. As someone who is considering buying a BYD it's good to hear about the bad as well as good issues. What I would be really interested to hear is how BYD deal with it, like do they totally make it right with you or not ?

Joshifi3d 2025-12-17 23:17

Probably throwing the baby out with the bath water mate. I would have followed the process and had it repaired or replaced. Judging by my own experiences test driving and everyone else’s reviews and comments BYD are largely solid and reliable build across the board. They just need to tighten some screws for after sales and servicing due to the rapid expansion.

deed02392 2025-12-17 23:34

Seal excellence for 6 months, driven 2000 miles, happy

PoopsMcGroots 2025-12-18 00:05

Zero issues here 🤷‍♂️

pwrstn 2025-12-18 00:25

I don't know. The op added UK to their post after I suggested adding their country.

abgpomade 2025-12-18 01:58

Which BYD you have? How about the handling compared to Audi?

steve4982 2025-12-18 06:33

No my BYD Seal Excellence is beautiful and has been faultless

irenedakota 2025-12-18 06:36

Likewise, my Sealion 7 just hit 5000km and we’ve had zero issues.

Chubtor 2025-12-18 07:41

Same. Flipping love mine. Apart from the emergency braking which has given me a heart attack regularly 🙄

steelz80 2025-12-18 07:59

Got a Seal Excellence and actually delighted with it. Came from a 21 plate 330i M Sport and I massively prefer the seal. Faster, smoother, much more tech. Sorry to hear people are having problems but mine is perfect.

wilsonmula 2025-12-18 08:36

I Have sealion 7, just hit 5000km and my front breaks make huge noise when they cold, about tho bring them in next week. looks like both front discs have an outer line that’s not being used. let’s see what the warranty says

Lexinator-187 2025-12-18 09:41

Seal dmi u since November 2024 and I’ve got the clicking noise on turning left. It’s been in the garage and they said it was common and easy to fix. I came out of the garage and still have the noise. What I would say is the garage were apologetic and have booked it in to look again. Other than that and the headlights which I personally am not a fan of I’m still loving my car.

CertainCertainties 2025-12-18 09:50

My brother loves his Shark and Sealion 7. Took the Shark on a 4500 km Outback trip through some of the most hostile terrain on Earth. Not a single problem with either. Sorry you're having problems.

Rick_996 2025-12-18 11:15

I have had my Atto 3 for almost 2 years now, in Malta and have had no issues.

True_Arachnid_5332 2025-12-18 14:34

My 2024 Seal Performance dropped dead on the motorway for unknown reason when only 4 weeks old. I restarted it immediately, and drove off. Subsequently, I had the BYD's techs do thorough checks, and software updates. Zero issues ever since. Super fast, and smooth, but I disabled Automatic Cross Traffic Emergency Braking.

fitchboy79 2025-12-18 16:12

Had a Dolphin surf since August and haven’t had a bit of bother. Other than getting annoyed at it telling me to “keep eyes on road’!

MaNiAc-CJB 2025-12-18 18:15

Bought my Sealion 7 AWD in South Africa and so far 10k on the clock no issues. I come from a family of German cars, Audi and Porsche. The service is better from German companies but the value for money from my BYD is insane. R2million for my Porsche compared to something that is faster and more tech. My Porsche was a 2018 model and cost of service was around R120k a year. No regrets here

传动轴敲击声在内?那开车的驾驶感不是很差,最终如何解决的?

I bought a Qin Plus DM-i almost 4 months ago and returned to the dealership the next day. I actually loved the car but the fact that the engine malfunctioned after running for a few minutes because it was delivered to with NO OIL meant that I didn't want to keep it. I returned to the dealership and requested an exchange or a refund but the dealership insists that the engine malfunction was due to "fuel degradation" and that I was basically hallucinating, despite documenting the whole thing on video! You can find my earlier post from 3 months ago on this forum. My money and the car are still with the dealership and it will likely take a few more months until this is legally resolved. BYD cars are good but the dealership is what makes the difference IMHO.

No-Skin-1688 2025-12-21 05:36

Did you get used to the softness of the cabin being a little bit floaty / softy? I am used to a more rigid cabin which helps on the edges of curves etc. I had one order but gave up the order due to the concern I would not get used to the cabin.

Actual_Put4333 2025-12-26 21:17

BYD Seal, handling is great; drives much like an Audi Quattro, very similar to my previous SQ2 if not a little better. I personally found the Sealion a little bouncy over rough roads but the Seal is nothing like that. A typical Q6 is very rough due to standard sports suspension but if you go for the SQ6 with air suspension it’s much better. Best car I ever had comfort wise was the Q7 with air suspension, that’d be hard to beat by any car as it was like driving on clouds.

RoyMastang 2026-01-02 17:15

How is the suspension? Do you find it stiff when falling in a pothole?

steelz80 2026-01-02 17:42

The suspension on my 330 was so ridiculously hard that the Seal feels much better, so I might not be the best person to ask.

BlueWeasleyl 2026-01-29 18:54

UK ATTO3 73 plate no issue so far after 2 years . Just had my first 20000 miles/ 2 years service done last Nov

ZoolToob 2026-02-09 07:39

I had the opportunity to drive two models of Sealion 7 the design and ultimately the comfort. Design with 19 or 20 inch alloys was definitely worse. The comfort model is a dream in comparison like butter over the rough road. And much better than my old ix3 with low profile tires. I'm done getting the best looking tires/rims when it affects the drive so much.
