No, it's just annoying!

I wonder if there is a product in history so overhyped, so under-delivered, and yet still so heavily defended by its deluded fans despite all the evidence of its failures?

You misspelled 'septic'

Found a driver ♥

[deleted] 2025-11-08 09:30

So, which model do you drive?

[deleted] 2025-11-08 09:32

The only thing that comes close might be the DeLorean, production-wise, and it got a fanbase... BUT - they are all very aware it is not that great a car and difficult to deal with. Its more of a hobby to maintain one than anything else... I couldn't think of anything else. I heard the Tesla is worse than the ETZEL (worst car in human history) but i doubt those got any fans XD CT is the best of both worlds it seems ;p

virtual_gnus 2025-11-08 21:56

That would be the Edsel, not Etzel.

LOL. I was a pretty enthusiastic day 1 preorder holder in 2019 as I assumed the CT would be a no-compromises offroadable battery-electric truck. Shoulda known Elon was pulling numbers out of his ass since the payload promised at the reveal for both the 300 and 500 mile range trims was 3500lb. That was physically impossible . . . I saw that discrepancy then, but the cognitive dissonance was quelled by my enthusiasm. In late 2023 I'd seen enough and converted my $100 pre-order into a $1000 discount on a HW4 AWD Model Y . . . no regrets on that yet.

Thank you! I needed that -- I LOL'd!

\> That was physically impossible . . .  To be fair to you (and you to yourself) it may not be impossible, and certainly didn't seem so. Better batteries (cheaper, lighter, more energy dense, better in the cold, more cycles of recharging, faster charging) have been promised for many years ago. They may yet arrive. If they arrived 5 years ago, the cybertruck would be much closer to what was promised. Too bad Tesla started chasing robots and AI instead of more resources on better batteries.

torokunai 2025-11-10 14:17

no, at the 2019 reveal they promised the CT having two ranges with the same payload, that's not how car design works. https://www.teslarati.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Cybertruck-specs.jpeg >Too bad Tesla started chasing robots and AI instead of more resources on better batteries. ? the causative here was they hit a dead-end on their 4680 promises from 2020 so had to find a new scam.

ChollyWheels 2025-11-10 18:54

\> hit a dead-end on their 4680 promises  We're agreeing... I think. If 4680 turned out as good as hoped, wouldn't the cybertruck be a lot closer to the initial promises for it? I know, not really exoskeleton or bullet proof or capable as a boat. Might even be better off road if (with lighter batteries) it didn't weigh around 3 tons.

Burntarchitect 2025-11-11 21:49

And they weren't bad cars, they just had a rather Freudian radiator grille... I'm in the UK, so it ups the rarity factor somewhat, but the only Edsel I've seen looked absolutely epic.

virtual_gnus 2025-11-11 21:58

Yeah. I actually like the way it looks.
