New car - Ant infestation - Fumigation!

Warbotz | 2025-12-13 09:00 | 30 views

Extremely disappointing! Collected my brand new BYD - Ants started appearing a day later on the inside and outside. Took it back to the service center for fumigation and disinfection. Anyone familiar with what they use to fumigate, and if it’s toxic to humans?

as long as you are not breathing it in and let it air out after, your fine

Congrats! mostly likely ur "brand new" car was left out on some field long enough for nature to take over. Good luck!

After the recent death of a family of 4 is Istanbul I wouldn't do any fumigation. Lay out some borax/sugar mix. The ant colony will be dead in a few days.

Umm there was a story recently on ACA about a woman who bought a new BYD and had a similar situation. It had been fumigated multiple times and in the end (probably only because ACA got involved) they replaced her car.

Good to know - not sure if they’ll replace the car unless it gets that level of attention. Concerned about the chemicals used and the health hazards that come with them - consumer or industrial grade etc

Mate, you just paid for a brand new car. They don't come with ants. is not a feature. I'd demand a new car.

The ants are not your problem. Take it back to the dealer and ask for a new car. Once infested it is extremely difficult to get rid of them.

Some ants are attracted to electrical components.. Saw a guy struggling to fight off a bunch of em at the charging port.. Anyway my older prius became a new home to an any3 colony last time after parking my car outside for about a 4 days..

Usually poison is toxic to humans. But jokes aside, that's a first for me. The car should be fine after fumigation though. Just let it air out just like you do with house fumigations. Hopefully there will be some new car smell left in the end.

We've had the same thing. Picked it up on Monday from Ringwood in Victoria, had ants coming out of the bodywork every day since then, and hundreds around the charging port when it was charging. Thought I'd just try to deal with it myself but then saw the Current Affair story and this post so I just emailed them about it.
