Not sure how they are scaling for mass production, since Leon just stated they WON’T be hitting a their mark for thousands of Optimus “Robots”, by the end of the year. Seems like the OPPOSITE of mass production. lol. Most likely another pump before earnings report. Their last positive one in a long time. Also, the stock is being pumped to convince shareholders to vote to approve Leon’s potential 1 trillion dollar company package.

2025-10-18 13:40
Well, assuming that their scrap rate for Optimus is comparable to what they see in their automotive production “enough parts for 180,000 units” would result in a couple hundred saleable builds.

Maybe, though 2% above market is still a bit of pump. And I suspect it‘s not only TSLA fan cult but a good amount of quant algos that use the momentum from rumors / X posts to amplify the moves.

Since when was it smart to have a massive stockpile of anything? Companies worldwide did everything they could to run LEAN the past 30 years because it was wildly inefficient and frequently you ended up with outdated stocks past a purpose. What if in 3 years many of these parts are in need of revisions? All Im reading into this is a questionable strategy of a foregone time.

I haven't been able to find much about this, didn't they just halt mass production a week ago because of design issues? It wouldn't make sense even for Tesla to order a ton of parts for what is still a prototype.

It’s all BS. No company would simply order 180k of any component unless they had already ramped up significant production. Maybe they purchased a tool with the capability of 180k units per year.
Regardless, they will never have significant sales of Optimus.

An order isn't a delivery. It's not uncommon for such a big order to stipulate a delivery schedule.
That said, we're in an era of blatant corporate lies at an international level, where companies like Apple "promise" trillion dollar investments in domestic expansion and swear they're bringing production back home. Trump has normalized dishonesty, and the lack of a functional SEC means you can believe basically nothing in these reports.

Exactly what I was thinking. It could be:

- framework contract with option to purchase, but no firm order; used as headline to pump (most likely in my view)

Seeing that they were posting fanfic infographics complete with Tesla branding on the investor sub a couple days ago, I have no doubt the cult will still vote for it to really double down on the pig slaughter. They pasted a poorly formatted Excel table w/ idiotic footnotes showing the population of each city (and their metro as though a dozen cars in Austin = 989k people using Robotaxis) , when it got Tesla insurance, and ads for fleet support as some proof that Robotaxi is somehow going to fix the fact they haven't come close to solving self driving.

There is almost no scenario where that many parts are ordered for something which is in "alpha" if even that. So unless you somehow think Tesla was lying when they said they wouldn't make their own goal.....of even a few 100 or 1,000 operating at their factory only...by the end of 2025, this is total BS.
I give it the 99.9% chance of total BS.
Also, present day manufacturing is mostly Just in Time. Why would a company order parts for something which might be improved (the parts) or come down in price.....and why would they tie up money in inventory when any supplier is accustomed to delivering right on time....

Are Tesla fans really so gullible? Humanoid robots are a dead end. They look futuristic but humans have built many machines to do their work and they don't look like humans. The machine that replaced humans digging holes with shovels doesn't look like a human with a shovel. The machine that welds together cars doesn't look like a human with a welder. You'll find no bigger Tesla/Elon hater than me, so know that it hurts me physically to say anything positive about either. But, the Tesla motor is a critical part of the cars, and, as far as I know, that motor is entirely designed and manufactured by Tesla employees at Tesla factories.
I believe the same is true with Boston Dynamics and the motors they use for the shoulders/hips on their dog.
Some parts that are central to the device are going to be homespun. Other stuff is going to be commercial-off-the-shelf. I can't imagine Tesla getting into the business of stepper motors when there are already companies at scale making tens of millions annually. But, yeah, I do expect that some elements of Optimus, should it ever actually exist, will use in-house parts.

The existence, or usage, of something, doesn't define worth. By the same token, you might as well talk about how great the idea of solar roadways are, and that's a boondoggle of epic proportions.
(yes, on the surface solar roadways seem neat, but the manufacturing will never be cost comparable to 'old' materials and never provide enough power to make it worthwhile).
