12V Battery Failure: Known Issue?

madrileiro | 2025-12-12 16:23 | 30 views

Atto 3 owner here… Yesterday I got stranded at a carpark with what it seemed like a 12V battery failure. After getting jump-started by roadside assistance and driving for a while it seemed to work. But this morning the car would not start and contacted BYD service which came and took the car. I saw a few posts and news regarding this battery failure. Has anyone dealt with this? Was it cover by the warranty??

Do you leave your Atto 3 unlocked for extended periods of time? The most common source of 12V problems are due to the battery maintenance cycle not kicking in often enough, which is done while the car is locked and idle for a long period of time.

Had an issue with our Dolphin going into sleep mode. Issue was caused by a loose terminal connection in the 12v battery. Couple of turns to tighten it, no issues since.

All depends if you have a lead acid battery. If you have the Lithium battery with a condensor you need only to press the button on the door to wake up the battery. https://preview.redd.it/bpkxaep0xs6g1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b908d66135476f353e0e106d896a949bade3d0a6

It took 1 year before the original 12v battery died. In Norway I got a New battery on warranty.

Yes! Unfortunately this is quite a common issue. (At least with the Chinese version as I had this happen to me.) with the 12V battery dead the car is non responsive. This happened once or twice in summer where the car barely tuned on but ended up booting into safe mode. And more often in winter where it needed to be jumpstarted. Fortunately the warranty covered a replacement and all is well. If this persists I will let you know.

There is no battery maintenance cycle. We are talking about lead acid batteries, (on models up to 2024) and the Atto 3 checks every 30 minutes for battery level, locked or unlocked. A battery monitor shows this clearly. In the case of the OP, the 12v battery is shite. A decent battery from local suppliers is a better option. However if the OP has a newer Atto 3 with the behind the seat LiPo4 battery, that is covered under warranty.

Yes. Faulty batter. Was covered by warranty.
