Goodbye Tesla! Here’s one customer that you will never get back!

Honest-Reaction8536 | 2025-09-30 10:17 | 697 views

Had a Tesla Model S 75D 2018, but got rid of it because of that fucker Elon Musk. We loved the car itself though.

Great, I know it must have been tough to get rid of a good car due to a CEO’s evil politics

Pixel91 2025-09-30 10:30

I still have to wait three months until I can finally get out. The car itself and the company have made me increasingly unhappy over the last half year, too.

theeed3 2025-09-30 10:36

What was it recently that he did.

SolutionWarm6576 2025-09-30 10:43

Suggesting to overthrow the UK parliament. lol.

MungoLloydy 2025-09-30 10:56

Musk is the reason I got an electric car ( Honda E) but also the reason why I haven't and never will own a Tesla.

LocoStrange 2025-09-30 10:59

Owning a Tesla is not like being at the airport. You don’t need to announce your departure.

Revolutionary_Tomato 2025-09-30 11:02

Congrats

needssomefun 2025-09-30 11:07

There are plenty of great EVs.  And none of the others look like either an upside down bath tub or a commercial dumpster with wheels.

Fuskeduske 2025-09-30 11:13

For me it’s musk + The cars suck at being cars, they are good at a lot of niche stuff though and has great range

General-Bend1129 2025-09-30 11:15

Lame

Fuskeduske 2025-09-30 11:35

Interior is too basic = No soul Feels like i’m steering a truck ( Model 3 2021 model ) Virtually no suspension Some might call it a gadget more than a car, mind you i have only had one because the company i worked for had a fleet of them

I kinda wanted OP to answer, as far as I am concerned after his right wing heelclick any support  for him is suspect. So for it too take so long is weird, also the cars are simply not interesting at all compared to anything that came out the last few years. Pricewise too.

IShouldNotPost 2025-09-30 11:46

They may have just gotten the opportunity to switch cars (paid off loan, for example)

ZeroSkribe 2025-09-30 11:59

Hmm, tesla's are have cheap interiors and cheap plastics. I would still be tempted to get one if they were good cars. You also have to have a little life experience and drive a few cars to understand cheap cars, I don't mean kia cheap, they are good cars. I mean piece of shit cheap.

massparanoia82 2025-09-30 11:59

I bought my new model 3 because of Musk. Love it.

massparanoia82 2025-09-30 12:00

I’ll take things that never happened for $500

Minnesota_Nice1 2025-09-30 12:01

Gotta tell you, this has been my biggest disappointment with the car. I didn’t realize before getting one that not only were the interiors horrifically cheap materials, they basically are held together by thumbtacks, gum, and paper clips. I understand you’re buying the tech first, car second. But with other EV catching up, they really need to invest in quality materials inside. I love the car but the issues I’ve had on my Highland in the first 2,500 miles is staggeringly bad.

CRXCRZ 2025-09-30 12:05

"Still Love The Truck" vibes...

CRXCRZ 2025-09-30 12:07

Are you the guy in the neighborhood that everyone avoids?

gwenver 2025-09-30 12:10

So, are you embracing him being a Nazi, or denying it?

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 12:10

It’s important to me to speak out and do the right thing.

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 12:12

massparanoia82 2025-09-30 12:12

Yes, everything I don’t like is a Nazi. I’m not a fan of cauliflower, it’s also a Nazi.

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 12:13

Yes it was. Many conflicting feelings, but I am glad I did it.

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 12:16

It was a combination of all the shady things he did starting when he bought Twitter, and turned it into X. And a dozen things he did after that. And also that I finally was in a position to get rid of it, but mainly because I had a car to replace it in the pipeline.

AlexGaming1111 2025-09-30 12:16

Tesla itself isn't a good car. In the early days they had the advantage of being the only ones making electric cars that were okay. Now that changed. If you want an electric car you have options. If you want a good car interior+exterior you now have options. Tesla simply doesn't do anything better than the rest to justify their existance. Brand was one of the other selling points but Tesla brand has gone to shit when Elon chose the Nazi side

TheBlackUnicorn 2025-09-30 12:17

Oh man I had an S 75D 2016, never going back. I did love the car, but it had tons of quality and maintenance issues and the dude just obliterated my resale by becoming a right-wing troll. I would never consider another Tesla ever again.

PatchyWhiskers 2025-09-30 12:18

People who do Nazi salutes and stress about the decline of white fertility rates are, in fact, Nazis though.

SpectrumWoes 2025-09-30 12:20

Even the tech is shit so what are you really getting as a benefit here?

Minnesota_Nice1 2025-09-30 12:25

I lol’ed. Haha. Not having CarPlay has certainly been an adjustment, but overall, I’ve been pretty happy with the navigation interface and the supercharger network. My biggest tech complaint is the inability to have group text messages on iOS through the entertainment screen at this point, which is annoying. But I charge for free at my apartment complex and live very close to superchargers in case of emergencies so not net. It’s been pretty so far. I do love the car but if they put a little more effort into QC at the factory or materials, I wouldn’t be upset.

SpectrumWoes 2025-09-30 12:27

I truly hope you’re never in a situation where the power gets cut to the vehicle due to an accident or other emergency, and those doors auto lock and those fancy electronic door handles stop working. But best tech right?

[deleted] 2025-09-30 12:27

[deleted]

Minnesota_Nice1 2025-09-30 12:28

Hey, I think you and I are on the same side here. I’m pretty critical of Tesla and in truth, if I knew then what I know now, I’d never have gotten out of my 2021 CX-5 Signature. That car was flawless but any savings in gas I’m having have been more than offset by how many issues I’ve had with my Model 3 since I bought it in June. I got sucked in with the 0% APR. Maybe I’m just trying to convince myself.

Caledron 2025-09-30 12:29

Concerning! Big if True! Looking into it!

SpectrumWoes 2025-09-30 12:32

I guess my point is that Tesla’s tech is just flashy stuff that Elon thinks is cool but ends up making the user experience worse. - The door handles - The gull wing doors on the Model X that had numerous problems - The infotainment system that removes haptic buttons and switches in favor of putting everything on the touch screen - The shitty Cybertruck light bar that makes night driving visibility worse And the list goes on

TextVisible4266 2025-09-30 12:44

Tesla front and back doors have electric and manual releases. It’s impossible to get stuck in one if the power shuts off. And there’s a 12 volt small battery to assist with accessories and the computer in an emergency.

aftenbladet 2025-09-30 12:45

Must be strange to take politics into consideration when bying a car...

broken777 2025-09-30 12:47

Enron Musk can go f himself.

just_a_guy_in_pdx 2025-09-30 12:53

What did you replace your model s with?

SpectrumWoes 2025-09-30 12:55

The manual release in most cases is pretty difficult to find in an emergency when you’re panicking. If you’re incapacitated, no one is going to be able to open the door for you either and the windows are difficult to break. While the 12v is there for an emergency in most cases we’ve seen even recently the door locks still die and don’t get backed up by that battery. It’s basically a useless design that flies in the face of decades of auto and safety engineering

RevolutionaryCard512 2025-09-30 13:04

Voting with your wallet? Never heard of it? I’m assuming not. Go educate yourself. It’s incredibly effective

Krilati_Voin 2025-09-30 13:04

my 2019 works just fine. I bought the "I bought this before he went crazy" sticker, and that is sufficient advertising. I don't want to go through the hassle of selling, and whoever buys it probably wouldn't advertise with a sticker either, so this is better anti-marketing.

TX3SCK 2025-09-30 13:07

You already bought the car and he got his money.

Minnesota_Nice1 2025-09-30 13:10

It does. Not denying at all. Actually fully agree. Just trying to make the most with the vehicle while I have it. Everyone hypes these cars up so much but the day to day living with it has been a very different experience. I love a lot about it, but it is crystal clear this is a car company second (or even third of fourth).

AlternativeGreedy787 2025-09-30 13:12

I’ll take things that never happened for $500

aftenbladet 2025-09-30 13:19

I prefer actual voting instead, but please educate me on how OP is using his economic power against Musks economic power. Or even how it's going for people using this tactic to get their political will across. Seems like you guys are doing great over there

SuperF91EX 2025-09-30 13:25

Our 2020 model y- cheap materials, very poor suspension- ride quality on rough roads, rattles, FSD phantom braking is bs. The tech is pretty good, but the range is nowhere near advertised and never has been.

SuperF91EX 2025-09-30 13:30

That’s exactly why we have a dedicated window breaking device in the drivers door cubby. Also has a built in seat belt cutter and flashlight. Kind of fucked up that I need one, but that’s Elon for you…

garbageemail222 2025-09-30 13:31

Just because you pretend it isn't real doesn't mean it's not happening. See: Disney.

curiousitymdg 2025-09-30 13:47

Have a reservation for a Rivian R2. When it comes out our Model 3 is going bye bye. And we are never looking back.

penkster 2025-09-30 14:15

Traded in my Model 3 for a Rivian R1T about 3 months ago. Have zero regrets. The truck is awesome (Hey Elon - THIS IS WHAT A PICKUP TRUCK LOOKS LIKE. Not that hellish garbage you pulled out of your tonka toy box). Mrs geek has a 2012 Model S with 225,000 miles on it we're going to run into the ground. An aluminum body is mighty nice here in the northeast. And free supercharging forever. You know, back when teslas were special and interesting.

gwenver 2025-09-30 14:33

If that cauliflower showed sympathies to Nazi ideology and supported far right political parties, I would indeed suspect that was the case.

FlipZip69 2025-09-30 14:34

I know the tablet type touch screen is a very low cost for Tesla to create controls but it gets old really quick. It just a boring interior and not particularly comfortable.

FlipZip69 2025-09-30 14:35

What exactly would make that unusual? I would absolutely check with Tesla for their offer and I suspect a great number of people do prior to selling them private.

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 14:36

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 14:38

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 14:38

Had to install manual release rear door openers. Bc fuck Elon trying to burn my kids alive. Never again Tesla. If a Tesla gets in a car accident and battery shuts down, you cannot open the rear doors especially in panic mode when the car is on fire. So lots of people burn alive.

mattmonkey24 2025-09-30 15:35

Do people in Germany take issue with Musk's ties to the AfD?

apachevoyeur 2025-09-30 15:38

Boatgone 2025-09-30 16:06

Count me as another one. I liked my 2019 model 3 performance. But every time I got in, I thought about that Nazi saluting Musk and it pissed me off. I sold it 2 months ago and bought a Lucid Air instead. The car is better in almost every way and no more Musk. :)

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 16:08

what kind of mess must be in one's head to get sacrifice something they love because of virtue signaling. Hard for me to comprehend.

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 17:41

Very simple. The mess is not in my head, but in Elon’s.

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 17:41

Mine too!

Comprehensive_Ant176 2025-09-30 17:41

That would be true if Elon was posting this.

rvH3Ah8zFtRX 2025-09-30 17:48

SuperF91EX 2025-09-30 18:04

Need a ride?

Grand-Glove-9985 2025-09-30 18:18

Yesterday I get rid of all TSLA too. Investment in right wing nutters is not for me, especially that I live in Eastern Europe and to many times Musk picked on my country.

0o0o0o0o0o0z 2025-09-30 18:28

> find the only people who think Teslas are great cars were driving base model Toyotas, Hondas and Fords. 100% this... I was looking at S and Y's and ended up getting a Porsche... and it was only like 5k more than the Y performance at the time. When my wife and I test drove the Y and S, she was like, "You are not paying X dollars for this piece of shit..." TBH, I think she broke the hood on the Y we tested, closing it too hard.

reaven3958 2025-09-30 19:17

A little late, but good for you haha

RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 2025-09-30 19:49

Welcome to the club! We got rid of our Model Y and have never felt better about it. There’s some great alternatives on the market now so Tesla is no longer the only EV in town as it were.

terraphantm 2025-09-30 19:52

Yeah I used to have a model 3 performance and then a model S Plaid. My dad had a Model S 70D and then a Model X. We did overall like the cars, but it wasn't worth being associated with a nazi. For now BMW seems to fit the bill

RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 2025-09-30 19:52

Some people don’t have any morales or shame, just the way it is unfortunately. People want to be morally responsible until it’s an inconvenience to them. Couldn’t be me…

terraphantm 2025-09-30 19:53

In fairness those older model S's had real leather seats and dashes, alcantara headlining and such. They were going for a more luxury feel back then.

RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 2025-09-30 19:58

I think the part that makes me the most angry is the U.S. tax payers helped him get there. I wish they would have used that money for national wide EV infrastructure or something instead… but Elon probably would’ve found a way to get the contract anyways. The man got rich off the taxpayer and rewarded all of us by buying politicians and elections, purchasing Twitter to silence opposition… inciting riots in the UK, trying to buy the Wisconsin Supreme Court…. The list goes on and on. I once looked up to Elon and even bought his biography written by Ashlee Vance, mainly due to what he was accomplishing with SpaceX. Man did I have the wool pulled over my eyes, the guy is an asshole.

RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 2025-09-30 20:00

Hold up, you bought it in June, like this year? Interesting lol 🤨

XiMaoJingPing 2025-09-30 20:05

Did you have any battery issues? Curious how a 7 year old EV battery holds.

RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 2025-09-30 20:06

Hey now, I think myself and others thought it was pretty great to actually drive an EV for the first time. It’s a great experience with instant torque and quiet ride. Buy you are absolutely correct that the build quality could not have possibly been done any cheaper. Nothing about it screams luxury to me. Now that there are plentiful options for EV’s I can’t fathom driving a Tesla again though. My first EV experience… that’s what Tesla was for me. That and to be honest, in the beginning it felt like we were all apart of something big, the next massive technological shit in society… it was exciting. I was blind but now I see. Forgive me for I know not what I was doing. 😢

RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 2025-09-30 20:11

Nah, that’s just putting your morality to the side because it’s an inconvenience. Whatever helps you sleep at night though. Sticker may as well say; “I would sell but I can’t be bothered, please don’t vandalize my car.”

Former-Action9760 2025-09-30 20:29

Is Elon in the passenger seat giving you a blow job? Why does he matter even it comes to whatever car you're buying? Are you not buying a GMC because of the CEO? Do you even know the GMC CEO name? You don't because you're just joining the band wagon hate on a dude. Although, if he was giving you a bj and you didn't like it, then go ahead and buy a different car

Former-Action9760 2025-09-30 20:30

I've had gas cars with more maintenance issues than an EV. Every car will depreciate coming off the line. Wtf do you expect?

elephantmouse92 2025-09-30 20:43

im loving the new model y 2025, if you based all your purchasing decisions of the politics of those involved with companies youd be living in a cave naked.

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 20:58

No, not at all. Just the standard degradation, but nothing out of the ordinary.

[deleted] 2025-09-30 20:59

Good for you! I did the same. Luckily for me, the EV competition has surpassed Tesla now anyway. I bought and Cadillac Optiq and comparing it to my two Teslas the Cadillac is like grown ups designed and built it rather than a preteen narcissist. It’s so much more refined, much quieter and more solid all around. Tesla apparently isn’t a car company anyway. And I’m skeptical they’ll be much of anything going forward without some adult leadership.

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 21:00

You’re making a lot of assumptions

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-09-30 21:02

You are right. I don’t base all my decisions on that. But after a while, enough is enough.

CountryFew5566 2025-09-30 21:11

sad news the stock is about to go to mars

ioa94 2025-09-30 21:19

Yeah? When did you give up your smartphone? Or are you a hypocrite?

XiMaoJingPing 2025-09-30 21:21

yeah but how bad is the battery degradation? is it noticeable?

fnblackbeard 2025-09-30 21:46

These people aren't real, they're bots. Tesla is still the best selling car in California lol, you know where all the liberals are.

fnblackbeard 2025-09-30 21:47

enjoy that massive depreciation lmao

Born-Gur-1275 2025-09-30 22:01

Good for you!! What did you replace it with?

PresidentSnow 2025-09-30 22:06

Same, sold my Model Y and replaced it with an EV9. Much happier. Not a fan of Musk and his straight up deceit.

WrongThinkBadSpeak 2025-09-30 22:36

Let's buy the *other* insane billionaire's car...

Proper-Bee-4180 2025-09-30 22:49

Make that 2

RosieDear 2025-09-30 22:50

Well, didn't musk tell us his cars would appreciate? That's some of the musk problem. People don't like liars. As far as cost to own, here is Model S (car edge): "**The total five-year cost to own a 2025 Tesla Model S is approximately $105,448**, with the largest cost being depreciation ($62,856), followed by insurance ($23,780), and financing ($15,050). Fuel and maintenance costs are significantly lower, with fuel averaging $2,220 and maintenance around $1,542 over five years, though actual costs vary based on trim, driving habits, and location. " FYI, a mid-line semi-luxe car like an Avalon Hybrid cost 40K or less over those 5 years...Tesla Y is about 60K, definitely nowhere near the better values in its size range. Other than having money to throw away it's hard for me to imagine why folks want to spend an extra 50K over 5 years for nothing. But folks get excited about cars for various reasons.

Dry-Preference2915 2025-09-30 22:50

How exactly does selling it fix the problem?

Ashamed_Data430 2025-09-30 23:00

By 'commercial dumpster with wheels' do you mean the Incel Camino?

raygduncan 2025-09-30 23:02

Did same with my 2022 Model S.

Minnesota_Nice1 2025-09-30 23:31

Is that bad?

Lovetotravel888 2025-09-30 23:32

Good. Elbows up.

Top-Sympathy2047 2025-09-30 23:32

Tesla is not one man on the spectrum with some arguably strange opinions and behaviors, it’s an innovative company supplying good wages and benefits to over 100,000 talented American workers and perhaps 50,000 workers internationally. What Tesla has achieved in only 22 years is phenomenal. I took delivery this month on a Model 3 with FSD for my wife and we think it is truly amazing. We’re not Model S rich like some of you, so this is by far the best car that we’ve ever owned. It’s so much fun to get chauffeured everywhere including on winding mountain roads. Manual driving is very responsive as well. Naturally we wish our purchase wasn’t caught up in a culture war, and at risk of being scratched by angry people searching for causes of suffering outside their own minds, but really, y’all sniping at Tesla, are actually shooting America in the economic feet. BYD and other foreign car makers will eat the lunch of Tesla and the other EV wannabes based in the USA unless you support American companies like Tesla. If you don’t like Tesla products, please at least buy American made cars. I suggest you schedule an overnight test drive in a Tesla with FSD before you make your decision. That’s what convinced my wife and I, despite the negative pushback from my also progressive brothers and sisters. This is the time for us all to come together in the middle ground, not jump to the polar extremes of the left and right. Gemini claims: “The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y have a high percentage of North American parts, with some models reaching 75% or higher. While the Kia EV6 also boasts a high domestic content of 80%, this percentage includes Canadian parts, and Tesla vehicles have a higher overall domestic content, with most models assembled in the US from parts largely sourced from the US and Canada.”

XalAtoh 2025-09-30 23:33

So what's your new car?

winniecooper73 2025-10-01 00:25

I actually like our Y but unfortunately will not buy another. I don’t like being associated with it. I plan to drive it until it dies. Currently at 60k miles

Basement_Chicken 2025-10-01 00:30

It seems like most people driving them are from India and don't care about the Nazis. They probably don't even know what fascism is. All they think about is saving few pennies on gas. That's more important to them.

Dorythedoggy 2025-10-01 00:45

Why get rid of a car because of Elon? Dudes always going to be filthy rich and in power. Is it some conspiracy that everyone working at Tesla is on the same wave length as Elon? From the janitors, healthcare personal, engineers, and mangers?

Oo_Juice_oO 2025-10-01 01:23

I've never got hate for owning a Tesla and being associated with Elon Musk. But if that situation ever happened I plan on responding, "Leon who?"

-zero-below- 2025-10-01 01:41

The drivers and front passengers door windows are likely unbreakable with that tool — it’s 2 layers of glass with lamination between. Your tool might crack the glass but the lamination will keep it in place and physically intact. Your best bet will be the rear passenger windows. Also, in an accident big enough to mess up the electrical, the stuff in your cubby will be sprayed all around the cabin. You need to physically attach the breaker to the car for any chance of it being in/near where you expect when you need it.

Firm_Farmer1633 2025-10-01 01:43

There’s a lot of people with a lot more money than me. I bought my TM3 in 2019 when we thought that Musk was a believable good guy. He fooled me, but I can’t afford to give some other capitalist tens of thousands of dollars to,fool me, just to spite Musk. And he wouldn’t feel spitted by this peon. No I’m keeping my HW3 FSD car for as long as possible, hoping that I will bleed a tiny drop from him if Tesla ever incurs a cost to make my _Fake_ Self Driving car _Full_ Self Driving.

bitchcoin5000 2025-10-01 02:07

Seriously - at this point is that company just money laundering. serious question.

Quirky_Tradition_806 2025-10-01 02:15

I think he is referring to Tesla abruptly changing prices for new cars, which effects the resale/used market.

ExtraDiamond7173 2025-10-01 02:17

in 2017 my colleague fell asleep at the wheel and killed himself. Me always falling asleep at wheel after work, was directed by my son to go get a Tesla which won't go off the road when you doze off. 150,000 miles later here I [am.My](http://am.My) career and freedom extended by Tesla. So far maintienence on my car is two sets of tires only. Seeing how much I loved Tesla my progeny all bought Tesla probably about 50 of them in my own house. But Elon fucked it up by taking out all the creature dependencies such as the stalk on the side to engage autopilot, the beautiful big screen that you can operate with one finger. . So all my children have Tesla but never use any of the technology because it is indecipherable. I used to shun Germans that they obfuscate the technology. Guess what Elon did it too. I am amazed that its worth two trillion dollars. Now its not worth the toilet paper I use in the morning.

MetlMann 2025-10-01 02:18

I’m thinking there must not be a DOT or NHTSA rule requiring a mechanical door release that must be placed in an easily accessible and visible location. Probably because they thought no company could be dumb enough or arrogant enough to make a car lacking such basic functionality.

ExtraDiamond7173 2025-10-01 02:23

PS I have no beef with Elons politics. He made a pitch for power and got kicked in the teeth. That's not evil. I am ashamed of those that want to project him to be evil. You don't weigh intellectually as much as a hair on his Chiny chin chin. So SHFU

ExtraDiamond7173 2025-10-01 02:25

I love my 75 D. I told my children to bury me in my car. I heard you can't buy gasoline in heaven!!!

ExtraDiamond7173 2025-10-01 02:37

when I bought the Tesla, I already had 3 Bimmers, two Porsche and three Benz,s. They don't hold a candle to Tesla as a car. I always regretted buying a Tesla because it took away all the pleasure of car shopping. Nothing ever comes close. My Porsche needs 3000 dollar maintenance every 6 months. My maintnenence on my Tesla S in 8 yerars is a big fat Zero

ExtraDiamond7173 2025-10-01 02:40

you really need to take a zen pill. He gave a you a perfect car, not perfect wife or job or friends. That's your job to get them

PoopieButt317 2025-10-01 03:11

Yes it was evil. He stole massive amounts of data and ended essential programs. You need a new moral compass. Ask your mother why she didn't teach you right from wrong.

TheBlackUnicorn 2025-10-01 03:21

Every other car I've ever had was gas and none of them had more maintenance issues than my Tesla. Though to be fair most of the maintenance issues my Tesla had were unrelated to the electric powertrain, Tesla's piss poor build quality is enough to make up for any of the maintenance savings from the simplicity of EVs. Every car will depreciate coming off the line, only some cars will crater in value by $10k in the space of two months because of their manufacturer's far-right beliefs.

TheBlackUnicorn 2025-10-01 03:23

> Fuel and maintenance costs are significantly lower, with fuel averaging $2,220 and maintenance around $1,542 over five years, though actual costs vary based on trim, driving habits, and location. " Also worth noting, my maintenance _costs_ were quite low, most of the problems with the car were repaired under warranty, but not everyone has a second car they can use while their daily driver is in the shop. Tesla had a 6 week airlock to get your car into maintenance and it would routinely take them over a week to make warranty repairs. Not to mention so many Tesla fans will tell you that you should just buy a new Tesla every time your Tesla goes out of warranty, because otherwise you'll be stuck with the bill for those repairs. So much for saving the environment.

Krilati_Voin 2025-10-01 03:30

I disagree. Not buying a sticker would be an inconvenience. Now maybe if someone didn't pay in cash, they would want to get out of paying, but I am responsible with my finances. I also have too much stock to sell it all at once, though it falls within the long-term capital gains tax. Now are you going to pay for my replacement brand of similar quality, or will you put your morality to the side for your own benefit? Sleep on it, if you can (;

gres23 2025-10-01 03:40

Same here! Got rid of 2016.5 X75D. Loved the car initially but kept seeing it as a sore thumb having to drive it. Was so happy when it was gone!

Pixel91 2025-10-01 05:27

Not really. The original Model S were quite decent, back when it was their only model. They were never "awesome" cars, but the real enshittification happened after, starting with the Model 3.

Pixel91 2025-10-01 05:31

They do a really good job of masking it. My Model 3 felt alright (not great, but not shit either) for like the first year. Then it started to show what a cheap piece of shit it actually is. They got insanely lucky that their supply chain model held up best and they were the only EV to be had at the end of 2021 without a 2-3 year lead time.

Forsaken_Treacle_407 2025-10-01 13:34

Honest-Reaction8536 2025-10-01 13:43

It seems like you already made up your mind about me being in your words “silly” based on an intentionally short one-sentence summary. But ok, I’ll give you some examples of a long list: - the nazi salute, and how he pretended it wasn’t a nazi salute when it clearly was. - the way he has treated his trans daughter is beyond despicable There are many more, but I fear you won’t be open anyway.

Forsaken_Treacle_407 2025-10-01 13:49

It wasn’t a Nazi salute. That is what you lead with? How do you know how he has treated his family? Do you have firsthand knowledge? Just face it, you have been manipulated by the media, both traditional and social. I’ll ask again, how has he affected you? Hate him, don’t keep a 7/8 year old car that has already made him money. Live your life I guess, but what you are saying is factually incorrect.

Gold-Passion-7358 2025-10-01 14:41

Weird_Week119 2025-10-01 16:24

It's a matter of practicality. Some things you can more easily avoid than others. I've followed Tesla since 2005, daily until a few years ago, and supported them because I believed Elon's plan was good, telling everyone I could to buy their stock if they ever went public. I even picked the exact day it took off from $35 up to the $90's. I remember it clearly. But the last few years, since he became, or rather revealed himself to be, a right-wing whack-job .... I'm very happy to short TSLA every day daytrading, though I feel bad for the people who work there. However, I would never buy a Tesla now, since that would support Elon. There is a lot of choice out there and I think actually better EVs. But other things are much harder to avoid. Like phones - they are, unfortunately essential, and computers in general - likely also made in not the best circumstances.

Yeah, the current generation of Quandts seem to be center-left politically, very far removed from the pro-apartheid, anti-democracy beliefs espoused by Musk. And it'd be hard to find any company in Germany that didn't have some Nazi connection if they existed before WW2. All that said, you may want to think carefully about a BMW. Their modern cars are noteworthy for excessively complex engineering, poor material choices, and astoundingly high routine maintenance costs. A far cry from the 3-series of 20 years ago.

practicaloppossum 2025-10-01 23:27

To your first point, while Tesla has been an innovative company, it's hard to think of anything significant they've done in the past 10 or so years. The vehicular powertrain is derivative from their original design, the supercharger network is derivative from the 2012 original, the battery storage business hasn't produced anything truly new for years. Things like pickup trucks and humanoid robots are certainly not Tesla ideas, and since Tesla's versions are major failures you can't even say they innovated a "better" version. Tesla's innovation seems to have evolved into stagnation now.

terraphantm 2025-10-02 00:13

Well an EV I would be leasing (well already am Iol) anyway so most of those concerns will be the next owners problem.  That said, I haven’t really heard of modern BMWs having a lot of the issues that used to be prevalent 20 years ago- ie exploding expansion tanks, rotting gaskets, suspension bushings made of cheese, etc. I love my old e46, but reliable it was not.

SippieCup 2025-10-02 19:32

First, it’s disingenuous to compare a ~100k car to a million 40k one. You don’t buy a 100k car as an investment, no matter what Elon might shill. That said, you are making a lot of assumptions. How would a base model 40k Avalon (if you get map) cost less than 40k per year? It still has 30% depreciation after 3 years, and 60% after 5. Which is 26k. Financing at 10k down, would be about 3.5k in interest. Fuel cost for 75,000 miles / 43 is 1744 gallons, or 6.1k. Insurance: 8k over 5 years. Maintenance: 7k over 5 years. Tires: 1.5k over 5 years Total: 52.k ———- Car edge valued the new the model S at 88k, so a 17k additional cost after purchase. The base Avalon hybrid is 40k, and has an additional cost of 12k after purchase. Overall it’s just a scaling thing. You really can’t compare tcoo between cars at vastly different price points and classes. It’s disingenuous. It’s all about the same when you get to 100k, and people know what they are buying when they do to.

walls83 2025-10-02 19:45

TheBlackUnicorn 2025-10-02 20:30

Your resale value doesn't.

TheBlackUnicorn 2025-10-02 20:31

Absolutely bug nutty. And when they replace that HV battery the replacement is a "re-manufactured" pack, ie a hodgepodge of cells from OTHER failed packs, and the warranty on it is just one year.

Ashamed_Data430 2025-10-02 20:39

Sounds like you prefer Tesla because of Elon's fascist countenance. I have been following Tesla (with admiration) since its inception and I herald its innovation and the change it's driving. Years of build-quality and dealer relationship issues have tempered that somewhat. I don't need anything that Tesla sells right now and if I were to step across the gas/electric divide, I'd buy an Aptera (which probably could have the same build-quality and dealership issues, who knows?) But, while the Aptera isn't the perfect car for everyone, but it is the perfect car for more than a billion of us.

My model y is gone soon as the r2hits the market.

RosieDear 2025-10-03 00:46

There are 5 year total costs........ We did pay just 34 for our Avalon Hybrid new, so MY cost of ownership is much lower than what CarEdge says..... Of course you have to make adjustments here an there - the Avalon is rated as one of the quietest sedans made and we surely could not say it's the same as a 3 or a Y (it's better). Perhaps the S is a level above it? But I don't see why.....we could check interior room and stuff like that. I've had it going on 6 years.....it's easily worth 18K (prob more), which means a loss of 16K in depreciation....less for 5 years (which is what Caredge uses). I am always amazed when people talk about their car payments and insurance, etc. - because the basic math above is that in 70 months, the car cost 16K in depreciation, which is about $230 a month. Caredge lays out all the average costs for most every car. No EV's were on the "best value" list until recently.....I think Kia and maybe the Clubman EV made it into the top 30 or 50... I think the majority of vehicle buyers actually do want the best value for their dollars...but there are many markets which don't care. No one is buying a Cybertruck to save money.....or a Model S.

terraphantm 2025-10-03 02:09

For the most part it was trading one depreciated car for another depreciated car of a similar value. No real financial hit beyond the original depreciation

capital_folly 2025-10-03 11:46

My take is Tesla’s biggest liability isn’t the cars, it’s the brand being inseparable from its founder. When leadership becomes the product, customers aren’t just buying a vehicle, they’re buying into a persona. That works on the way up. It backfires on the way down.

West-Penalty-1948 2025-10-03 12:05

Dr. You speak truths. Have you browsed the internet much? Just this thread shows you how many people make financial decisions based on political discourse.

Financial_Skill_8862 2025-10-03 16:18

As a lib I would never vote for a felon and a convicted rapist

babyryanrecords 2025-10-03 16:38

lol why would you give up a car due to one guy who owns a bit of the company and is the current CEO? I suggest you start researching all car companies and all of their investors… you’ll end up w no car

DaveTN 2025-10-03 18:50

Loved my 2020 Model 3 LR AWD with lifetime FSD but due to the fucked up antics of fElon Musk and the fact that it would be dead in the water with HW3, I sold it and got a Mach E Premium LR AWD and love it.

miherbalcure 2025-10-03 18:57

Suffer then

lambofgod0492 2025-10-03 19:49

Oh no, how will Tesla ever recover from this

Lightwave1241 2025-10-03 21:13

I’ll give you $100 for your car!

Majestic-Forever-304 2025-10-03 21:16

That's ok nobody cares

jmils26 2025-10-04 00:24

The world needs to learn to separate art from artist

aaronlimitless 2025-10-04 00:37

Just wait till you realize that every single car company is tied to somebody in the executive branch that has done something horribly deplorable let alone far more deplorable than Elon Musk. 😂

NoPreference1354 2025-10-04 00:54

Can I have someone’s Tesla they want to get rid of? 🥹🥹

ShermansWorld 2025-10-04 01:01

I'm with you... I didn't buy the car for resale or because of the ceos political affiliations... And I'm gonna drive it until the wheels fall off... With this in mind, the S is paying back in $$$... The 75D came with free SuperCharging, Autopilot and Data. Every year that goes by... Is one more year of not paying for gas.

XeneiFana 2025-10-04 01:26

Enjoy the indoors bbq.

Sal5435 2025-10-04 02:12

😂😂

Sal5435 2025-10-04 02:13

There may be other great evs but the Tesla charging network can not be beat.

Sal5435 2025-10-04 02:49

Good luck traveling the country

Brief-Part-488 2025-10-04 05:21

TheBlackUnicorn 2025-10-04 15:16

Too late, already sold it.

mbarn83 2025-10-04 17:23

Is being a liberal your only gripe?

JckStormo 2025-10-04 18:39

nopedontcarefu 2025-10-04 19:54

Bye. Go get a downgrade.

nopedontcarefu 2025-10-04 19:56

Says the dude driving a German or Japanese vehicle. History much? Short term memory issues?

Party_Paramedic_6402 2025-10-04 20:29

Bye ✌🏿 😂😂😂

OriginalLie9310 2025-10-04 23:37

I see you couldn’t read the “tons of quality and maintenance issues” but I guess you’re programmed to cherry pick only what supports your nothing argument.

Lightwave1241 2025-10-04 23:52

Damn, I missed out…

Seaker42 2025-10-05 00:08

Definitely do what you want. For me, I absolutely love my new Tesla and FSD.

SnooKiwis6943 2025-10-05 14:07

My cars are American made. Nothing wrong with Japanese or German though. It's not like we are buying North Korean cars.

[deleted] 2025-10-06 02:51

I’ve had several excellent 2000+ mile road trips. Not a problem. My battery will run at highway speeds for 4 hours without stopping. My bladder is good for 90 minutes, two hours on a good day. Charging is not my limiting factor.

bthest 2025-10-16 18:37

I don't, I drive a subaru.
