*The collapse in the used market mirrors its disastrous performance in the new market. In the second quarter of this year, Tesla sold only 4,306 Cybertrucks, a 50.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from Cox Automotive Kelley Blue Book.* Now who could Nazi that coming? *[Musk’s] high-profile role in the Trump administration’s infamous Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—which slashed federal budgets and fired employees—along with his promotion of far-right and white supremacist ideas on his social network X, has fundamentally damaged the Tesla brand.* Hey Gizmodo, you forgot the Sieg Heil! That was the moment a lot of us went from “probably not buying a Tesla” to “no fucking way I would *ever* buy a Tesla.” Not to mention making plenty of current owners ashamed of their cars. Permanently alienating your customer base in one gesture was a hell of a big-brained move, Mr. Musk.
4306 in three months. Tesla will be lucky to sell 10k next year, that cant be profitable. The rest of Tesla sales follow this decline, over 50% drop in sales everywhere.
Article doesn't even mention that the CEO of Tesla is a Nazi known for doing public Heil Hitlers. That's why the brand is shit, people don't want Nazi cars.
We all know it's a less than compelling product, having been rushed to release years late under specd and over priced. But having it fail so quickly has been satisfying. The CT had one real year of sales and now it's fallen off a cliff. To take preorders for years and have no significant sales 12+ months into the vehicle's life is truly astonishing work! Originally touted to sell 150k-250k a year they may never see 100k lifetime sales!
S and X sales are close to Cybertruck sales. I am amazed they dont stop production on all three
my fellow Armenian grocer has a brand new Cybertruck... parked right next to the grocery van delivery truck, it's so embarrassingly funny - it's gotta be a great life experience to drive around and be proud knowing you're such a rube
> So, what happened? The answer lies with the company’s once-infallible CEO When, exactly, was Elon Musk "infallible?" Journalists ought to know better than to write this slop. At the very least, write something like "*The answer lies with the company's CEO, who was once considered infallible.*" That's somewhat defensible.
I like the part where he wrote "I've been paid to write this article and soften the public image of a racist scam artist who gutted essential services on the federal level, is successful at exploding billion dollar rockets like fireworks, and is a horrible Nazi saluting scumbag." At least that's what I recall from not reading the article.
The brand is shit, the sales figures are shit, their newest product is shit, their robot is shit, even the new Diner is shit… yet somehow the CEO just got a nice 25 billion dollar bonus.

>To take preorders for years and have no significant sales 12+ months Well, when only ~1% of those pre-orders actually convert to sales, they were always going to burn thru that "list" really quickly. It m never even sold well in the first year, by any reasonable metric
The article says “Once hyped as the indestructible truck of the future, the sci-fi pickup is now leading a massive plunge in used Tesla values as the company grapples with the fallout from its CEO's politics” and discusses the collapse, but we really do need to remember that it isn’t *only* Musk’s repugnant profile and horrid politics that have lead to this. It’s also that the CyberTruck specifically is just very very poorly made, and Tesla has inverted its reputation as a leader in customer service and innovation. Even the cars and their features are less satisfying and seriously under deliver on their promises. The problem is that Musk’s personality is just reinforcing the core poor quality of the brand and products.
Who cares about the cars, the stock is the real product. /s
S & X lines have most likely been fully amortized and depreciated, thus way higher gross margins on sales of these ancient models. Cyber is the opposite. If they stop, there would be a huge write-down (loss) on their wasted CapEx. Depreciation expenses are starting to ramp higher. Tesla is no longer a startup. Foolish spending on capital, with no incremental revenue, is coming back to haunt Elon. Zack saw it coming and dipped.
Shit boards are pretty common. Look at Intel's board.
Most of this people pre-ordered a $39.900 truck with impressive stats. When it came out Tesla wanted $61.000. Many more people would have bought a cheap Swasticar, but Tesla would have lost $15.000 (?) per car.
I have noticed that a lot of media reporting seems to drop the nazi salute from the discussion as if it was unconfirmed or rumored. We have video from multiple angles. I don’t know why even the ADL defended his actions. Maybe that’s what being a billionaire gets you. A lot of people running cover for this guy who does not deserve it one bit.
Friend is a fanboy And he said I was full of crap when I said it was going to cost over 60,000. He was sure it was going to be 40k.
The investors are shit
After you factor out the couple thousand stans who would buy anything Musk excretes at any price, who the heck would want to be seen in that thing? That and the "I need attention at all costs" truck buying demographic has very little overlap with EV buyers. Then the price. The Naziism. Most predictable bomb ever.
To some extent, he was infallible. In that no journalist was ever willing to contest otherwise. Even still, there's massive Naziwashing from everyone except maybe Fred.

Duh, his heart was going out to people!
He was infallible in that he did the dumbest shit for forever and no one gave a shit up until they suddenly did.
What leadership in customer service?
>When it came out Tesla wanted $61.000. AFAIK they never sold cybertruk for less than $80.000. It's a genius con to announce a cheaper model which is later "discontined".
I mean, the brand is shit because they’ve made dogshit for years. Now they lost all they had, the god worship of the founder.
I hope you often look into his eyes with a smug mug. This is what I do to my friend who said the orange man will end the war in 24 hrs.
Even Lisa Simpson thought he was great, so yeah, she’s fallible, too.
Ford sold 188 thousand Edsels. Just saying.
Yes but Tesla’s board has Musk’s family members on it, which is an extra level of shittiness
It's the Marjorie Taylor Greene of trucks - ugly, breaks down, and always making wild promises. And even though our expectations were rock bottom, MGT and Tesla still manage to fail to meet them. Yet she keeps getting re-elected and TSLA is still valued higher than giraffe balls. It's a crazy world.
"Minivan for incels" is such the perfect description of the cybertruck.
