So, how much of this is government or government-related funding, really? Because that's really the only reason that this dumbfucked contraption of a project still exists.

RuskiesInTheWarRoom 2025-08-07 03:11

Pranking? No. Scamming? Yes.

BloodWorried7446 2025-08-07 03:15

here take my upvote

babypho 2025-08-07 03:22

Pranking is done between friends. This is just straight up scamming and stealing money.

MochingPet 2025-08-07 03:22

October 2022 . "Steve Davis, CEO" expects 10 more stations in 2023 HAHAHAHAHAHA _better go work on Twitter instead..._ Nov '22 to 2023 🙄🙄 _as he did_...

JRLDH 2025-08-07 03:29

This has got to be the dumbest transportation system in modern times. Single lane tunnels for traffic in both directions?

yamirzmmdx 2025-08-07 03:35

Looks who is laughing now when Vegas floods in 2035. Oh wait nevermind. It's not a giant drainage pipe.

bobi2393 2025-08-07 03:35

The most surprising thing in the vid is there was only one car & driver for the loop (a second driver was in training), and they only take one party at a time, so when the YouTuber got there, he had to wait for the couple ahead of him to be picked up and dropped off, and the car to return. $50 million for a 2-mile, 2-tunnel, 3-station loop, with just two human-driven taxis, open only part of the day, is so much money for what they’re getting, and they’re going all in on expanding it.

GeriatricusMaximus 2025-08-07 03:46

The most stupid thing ever…

slipknottin 2025-08-07 03:59

“But Elon is just practicing making tunnels for when they need to do it on mars” - idiots

fredandlunchbox 2025-08-07 04:14

In cars with a max capacity of 5.

WildFlowLing 2025-08-07 04:21

The Tesla cult was so bullish on this but now they can’t even remember it existed. It’s a mad bull rush of dodo birds from one Elon scam to the next

xMagnis 2025-08-07 04:23

The underground intersections and traffic lights are amusing also. They took what was a vaguely interesting concept and are thoroughly ruining it with one-way tunnels for two-way traffic and right angles rather than well-contoured routes. And having to actually get out of the car, walk inside, and queue up again to transfer into LVCC-Center station. Just terrible and cheap execution, and uncomfortable station access.

dtyamada 2025-08-07 04:25

I think that was only for the west gate portion of it. Still sad and pathetic but not quite that sad. That encore "station" was a joke. By the time you got there (if it was actually running), you could've got in a normal cab and probably been at your destination already.

Vanman04 2025-08-07 04:38

And Tennessee is falling for the same nonsense. https://www.newschannel5.com/news/newschannel-5-investigates/metro-sends-a-long-list-of-questions-to-state-officials-about-elon-musks-music-city-loop-tunnel-project#google_vignette

Maximum-Objective-39 2025-08-07 05:21

Wait . . . It just occurred to me . . . Didn't Musk just steal this idea from Oceans 13?

Fun_Volume2150 2025-08-07 05:22

There’s no way Musk designed that tunnel with pumps to remove water.

totpot 2025-08-07 05:24

The whole thing was built with government backed bonds and Vegas pays Boring $4.5 million a year to run the convention center stations.

TheFoxsWeddingTarot 2025-08-07 05:29

Even their idiotic test run with very limited ridership at the Convention Center was prone to traffic jams.

Fun-Crow6284 2025-08-07 05:43

FAFO Tesla edition

Electrifying2017 2025-08-07 05:45

What incompetence.

trist4r 2025-08-07 07:57

Imagine these cars can't even operate autonomously in a single lane tunnel.

[deleted] 2025-08-07 08:04

Musk is bipolar. He comes up with these crazy ideas which are just that: crazy (and stupid).

richardbaxter 2025-08-07 08:21

I think musk sees the world as a test bed for his ideas and if they don't work, there's just no accountability

Salty_Feed9404 2025-08-07 08:35

That's what blew my mind after using it several times. Seemed a no-brainer to have autonomous cars, but nope...can't handle it in a single lane tunnel.

nekosake2 2025-08-07 08:56

even a simple lift system is more practical and advanced than this loop bullshit. this is something that \*works\* [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdTsbFS4xmI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdTsbFS4xmI)

gringovato 2025-08-07 10:02

What will boy wonder come up with next ? A cyber dumpster that can drive itself to the dump ?

FrogmanKouki 2025-08-07 10:02

Supposedly coming to Nashville and BNA airport next year. I was hoping to stay far away from the Musk grift. I currently work 3 miles from the airport...

FrogmanKouki 2025-08-07 10:07

"It's basically Teslas in tunnels at this point, which is more profound than it sounds." An actually Musk quote in relation to this project, initially it was sold as having 18 person automous shuttles... it was delivered with 3 passenger Teslas driven at 30 mph.

[deleted] 2025-08-07 10:32

He is practicing hoovering up funds for public transportation- which would throw a wrench in the scheme to make car ownership a luxury and force poor people to subscribe for automated taxi cabs to survive.

Herban_Myth 2025-08-07 10:38

Government Contracts? “Welfare”?

chicodivertido 2025-08-07 10:45

Amazing how people get taken in by Musk's frauds time and time again. There really is no hope for humanity. This guy is by far the greatest conman in the history of the world, yet people still fall for his garbage over and over and over again.

RioRancher 2025-08-07 11:31

It’s a rouse to get cities to not build proper public transit. It’s pro-car fantasy.

bthest 2025-08-07 12:00

I'm a bit curious as to what you found vaguely interesting about this concept?

sagetraveler 2025-08-07 12:06

I drove through a one lane tunnel while on vacation in Iceland. Was about 6 km long with turnouts every 2-300m. One direction had priority, the other direction had to wait in the turnouts. You could see ahead 3 or more spots and choose when to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. That was some wild shit. People were towing massive caravans through there.

xMagnis 2025-08-07 12:11

Well it does use tunnels, which is an underused volume of space in Vegas, so in theory that's added capacity. The concept of being able to take a non-linear path from one station to another could make a trip more efficient than a plodding monorail which has to stop at multiple stations. But their implementation sucks and their safety plan sucks, etc. Using non-autonomous 3-4 passenger cars is ridiculous. Overall Boring is screwing it up IMO.

Irishspringtime 2025-08-07 12:48

Is he getting any state or federal funding for these projects? I can't find any evidence that he is but I also can't see where the money's coming from.

Meteor-of-the-War 2025-08-07 12:56

The problem is, people are way too bought into the image at this point, so instead of calling him out on his BS, they just assume he's playing Spock chess or something and nod along at how profound it is.

MrGelowe 2025-08-07 13:01

The really sad part is that these FSD devs at Tesla can't even hard code a route to make the cars actually driverless. Literally single car tunnel is optimal condition for this shit.

dtyamada 2025-08-07 13:05

Yup. They'll say something like "this is the boring company not tesla" but we know that's BS. If Tesla could have made it work they would have. It's really the most damning proof of just how bad FSD is.

[deleted] 2025-08-07 13:46

They should put the cars on rails

Keyboard-Amazon 2025-08-07 13:53

And connect several cars, plus increase their capacity, and call it a train! A subway, metro, underground... Some people hate public transportation 😞

sneaky-pizza 2025-08-07 13:58

And make them with much higher capacity

ls7eveen 2025-08-07 14:03

Most embarrassing for sure https://www.vice.com/en/article/this-is-the-most-embarrassing-news-clip-in-american-transportation-history/

ls7eveen 2025-08-07 14:05

Negligent levels you could say

[deleted] 2025-08-07 14:06

No, they don't need an old stinking public train. Just make it on rails, autonomous, with several connected cars, charge a fee and call it a Freedom Convoy (TM).

BigMax 2025-08-07 14:12

Right. Imagine if they invested in a subway system in Vegas? All up and down the strip, even to Main Street? Get people moving around a lot easier, and take a lot of that traffic pressure off of the strip? That would be incredible! But we get this one stupid tunnel that does like .001% of the volume it should.

IceInternationally 2025-08-07 14:34

Honestly tesla should just make a van and put it in the tunnels so its slightly less weird

LordMoos3 2025-08-07 15:00

There's a reason we don't. The ground here is basically solid concrete in places.

Monk315 2025-08-07 15:03

So wait... Are you saying the emperor has no clothes?

Tecnoguy1 2025-08-07 15:16

I think what was interesting about it was that a subway beat it in every way even at the concept stage.

Objective-Lychee-506 2025-08-07 15:20

Remove a car lane in each direction down the center of The Strip and replace with a tram service that runs the entire length. That would be a lot more interesting than a Tesla Tunnel. They will never do that because ballers gotta ball and roll up in gold plated ferraris or limos or whatever. Since Vegas makes no sense to begin with, I would never expect any sanity to prevail in regard to public transportation.

EarthConservation 2025-08-07 15:34

For those that don't understand what the Vegas Loop is... it's a Tesla advertisement scheme. Millions of people flow through the Vegas convention center every year. While this transportation system is not only stupid and incredibly inefficient, what it does do is take a large chunk of those people and give them a ride in a Tesla. It's no different than Tesla unveiling events where attendees get a short ride in the newest Tesla, typically riding through a rainbow tunnel. It's no surprise that the Vegas Loop also has rainbow lighting effects... Who paid for it? Vegas tourists... but given that tourists fund a large chunk of the jobs in the region... it's basically the regional economy that paid for it. Nevada has been in the bag for Musk / Tesla since the enormous subsidy the gigafactory received. At the time it was the largest subsidy Nevada had ever offered to a company (maybe still is); a fledgling and unproven company that was already on the brink of bankruptcy once (in 2010) prior to the government bailing them out. We'll note that Harry Reid (D-Nevada) was the leader of the Senate Democratic Caucus, and Senate Majority leader when all the EV subsidies were passed and when Nevada offered Musk the enormous subsidy package. Multiple major Democratic states' representatives (California, Nevada, New York) seemed to go all in on pushing policies that seemed to distinctly boost Tesla... which ironically are also the states where Musk's companies setup shop. They setup major factories in California, Nevada, and New York. Oh... and that land Musk built his Nevada factory on... 1000 acres... was given to Tesla for free by a rich Nevada land owner (real estate tycoon) who gave it in exchange for a road deal.

mishap1 2025-08-07 15:37

Is it really still a gold plated Ferrari if there are no plebs to see you stuck in traffic in as they walk along the fountains between the beer hawkers and "showgirls"?

Canadiangoosedem0n 2025-08-07 16:05

The emperor is so naked we can see inside of his butthole.

RuskiesInTheWarRoom 2025-08-07 16:20

Very VERY well said.

Master_Grape5931 2025-08-07 16:29

It’s so easy to just throw some tunnels out there and fix things up in City Skylines!

Flimsy-Run-5589 2025-08-07 17:00

Those who hyped up this project against all critics and common sense should be ashamed of their gullibility. It's embarrassing and even worse than expected. I remember discussions about safety concerns regarding the planned speeds, fire safety, or simple capacity and profitability calculations that didn't work at all, but were downplayed by the hyperfans. When you read the comments about the expectations at the time, it's hilarious compared to what was actually achieved, but the most disturbing thing is that people still believe in Musk when he comes up with the next obvious unrealistic nonsense. It seems that he still has absolute freedom to do whatever he wants, I don't understand it. People should ask themselves who is actually paying for this crap, because it's certainly not Musk.

Objective-Lychee-506 2025-08-07 18:47

If this video is true, and I see no reason to believe it isn't, how can FSD be anywhere near ready for full, unrestricted use (3-6 months!), much less scaling rapidly, everywhere? Something is wrong here.

Objective-Lychee-506 2025-08-07 18:48

God, I hate Vegas.

Wow, Nashville really is becoming the new Las Vegas, especially for cowboy cosplay.

Maximum-Objective-39 2025-08-07 21:21

Vegas is weird because there's technically two Vegases. There's the deranged hyper reality of the strip. And then there's the mundane working person's city that provides its infrastructure, labor, and logistical support.

Maximum-Objective-39 2025-08-07 21:24

I hope it's the MCRN from the Expanse. Then Musk can suffer the misery of being locked out by the wealthy terraforming Barons and the Military Industrial Complex that is obligated to actually be competent because Earth has them outnumbered 5 to 1. Muks - "I hate it here."

brintoul 2025-08-08 05:05

I think he’s just the greatest scam artist ever to have lived.

[deleted] 2025-08-08 06:19

Yep. And I think the reason why he is so good at it is, that he really believes his own lies.

Apprehensive-Box-8 2025-08-08 06:35

I keep hearing that traffic congestion really isn't a problem anymore in vegas, since all the tourists didn't return this year.

EarthConservation 2025-08-08 16:41

Oh yeah. All the reports of Musk succeeding on the back of government subsidies... like tax credits, tradable regulatory credit schemes (subsidies from their direct competitors), loans, tax abatements, billions upon billions in technology transfers (NASA to SpaceX), incredibly cheap factory deals (from GM after their bankruptcy, facilitated by the government), even China planning and building factories for them, overpaid government contracts, and free land given to him... are all true. And these subsidies are international. Musk has massively benefited from government subsidies across all of his companies across all of the regions he sells products in. The last time I did the math, years ago, on how much in subsidies Tesla had received... it was already north of $20 billion. That was before the IRA was passed, which in 2023 alone, likely netted Tesla about $3.9 billion in federal subsidies. That's before adding in state ev tax credits, state tax abatements, regulatory credit income, solar/battery storage credits (state and federal), and the IRA's new battery production credits and electrode production credits. Tesla's essentially multi-dipping on these credits. On the sale of a single car in the US, they may be receiving the following subsidies: * Battery electrode material production credit ($not sure) * Battery cell / module production credit ($45 per kWh, or $3600 per car w/ 80 kWh battery) * Federal EV tax credit ($7500) * State EV tax credit ($1500 - $5000) * tax abatement at the Nevada factory on sales, property, and business taxes in the production of the battery pack ($not sure) * tax abatement at the Fremont factory on sales, property, and business taxes. (Albeit, I think 1-2 of those abatements have now fallen off... if they weren't renewed) ($not sure) * The sale would generate 4 ZEV credits which other OEMs would buy. ($not sure, but could be as much as $3500 per car based on some speculative numbers I've heard) So ... uhh, yeah... a $42,500 model 3 may be pulling in over $16,000 in subsidies on average for a single sale. And we have to consider that unlike all other major longstanding OEMs, Tesla has no ICE IP that is set to lose huge amounts of value, or the dismantling of manufacturing facilities / tools that are specifically for ICEs... like engine / transmission / exhaust manufacturing. The subsidies are valued at what they are based on the idea that the government is helping to offset those expensive costs; costs that Tesla never had. Further, 100% of Tesla products are eligible for subsidies... that isn't the case with the vast majority of the products other OEMs produce, given that they're still primarily producing ICE vehicles. It was never a level playing field. Tesla has been massively propped up from the get go.

ARAR1 2025-08-08 19:40

Entire concept of single cars if simply flawed right from the initial concept. Anyone working in traffic and public transit knows this. How was this even approved for construction? Who paid for this? LV taxpayers?

muchcharles 2025-08-08 20:24

Space X will design a submarine for the rescue

Jisgsaw 2025-08-08 21:51

That non linear path is the reason you have intersections, which themsleves are the reason for the light. That's why the loop as presented was always a very stupid idea if you thought about it for more than 10s, it could never work because you'd either need an absurd number of tunnels, or you'd have crossings, i.e. reproduce the traffic jam from the surface. Or you abandon the non linear, point to point traffic, but then you're left with a subpar subway.

JFrankParnell64 2025-08-10 00:41

Your Guber ride has arrived.

jaimi_wanders 2025-08-10 09:21

There’s a park near me with a mini train for the kids run by volunteers on weekends, it moves more people than this!

jaimi_wanders 2025-08-10 09:26

There’s a two-car train that does a 10-mile route every hour in SoCal which is currently low-emission diesel but is supposed to be upgraded to zero-emission soon…idk maybe they could have talked to some pros instead of reinventing the subway? https://metrolinktrains.com/rider-info/arrow/

jaimi_wanders 2025-08-10 09:28

take my angry upvote

OrdinaryPollution339 2025-08-10 19:55

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_rapid_transit?wprov=sfti1 The "Loop" is just a very poor implementation* of PRT - the most expensive / least efficient mass transit system. Usually used in airports but Morganrown, WV has a small system. (*) afaik, the loop is the ONLY PRT system that needs drivers. Most PRTs in the US are also wheelchair accessible. Loop doesn't comply with ADA. It's exempt due to it being classified as an "amusement ride / attraction."

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-11 20:21

IMO, whichever public officials are pushing for this in Tennessee should probably get a forensic audit performed on their finances. Because the way Tesla skirts regulations in Tn seems sus.

KnucklesMcGee 2025-08-11 20:26

Remember when Elon claimed he'd go back to Thailand and navigate that cave with the sub? Funny how that never happened.
