That was a terrifying story. No vehicle should have an exit procedure checklist... why the hell does it not have a normal door handle? What if the occupants are unconscious? How could this pass a safety certification? Musk is such an idiot.

He's an unpracticed, meandering storyteller, but with a story so interesting it was still listenable for someone really interested in the topic. Tesla is lucky; if he were a good storyteller, and whittled that down to 2 minutes, it would get so much more exposure. What a nightmare scenario!
This is how “easy” it is for an athlete to exit Tesla after accident. Non-athletes may have more trouble, like Mitch McConnell's sister-in-law Angela Chao who could not exit her Tesla and died.
At this point in time plenty of information on Telsas are out there. It's difficult to view negative outcomes from Tesla ownership as worthy of too much empathy. These are easily avoided issues.

People buying these are not reviewing guides.. probably needs to be an automatic mandatory training video that must be watched after purchase that is displayed on screen and anytime new driver is added to car. Also on airbag deploy/wreck doors are suppose to auto unlock.

Most people aren’t chronically online scouring Tesla subs like you and me. I’d bet that 95% of Americans have no idea about this issue.
I disagree that one needs to scour Tesla subs to get indications that maybe one of those things aren't worth 100k...
I grew up in the seventies. None of this would've happened with the cars then because: a) we had a safety feature called a steering column which meant that, absent extremely rare events like this thick and solid steel tube shearing, when you turned the steering wheel the wheels turned too; b) there were no controls on a screen you had to look at to locate, thus taking your eyes off the road; c) if you needed to get out you pulled the 100% reliable, easy-to-locate door handle; d) the windows could easily be smashed as a backup escape option; e) fires were generally not serious and confined to the engine compartment, which had insulation between it and you to stop you getting burned alive; Not part of what happened here, but an additional feature that could easily have is that, if emergency services wanted to get you out, they could cut through the body of the car with simple tools. Finally, again, not related to this accident but similar, in the event of an impact, the body of the car would crumple, taking away energy that might otherwise have broken *your* body!
Self reporting needs to change. Anyone who thinks Elon would willingly hand over unaltered data showing FSD killed someone is delusional.
Maybe someone reading, with good editing skills, could do the whittling, maybe annotate and/or add some diagrams? Get it into a format suitable for TikTok? It's public interest and the editing would be transformative so copyright not an issue; on a monetised channel you'd be compensated for your work and many more people would get to see it . You might save a life or two, especially if you ended the video with diagrams showing where the emergency door releases are in a Cybertruck!

I'd disagree. The more common these vehicles become, people end up in them even if they're not the owner/driver. I took my non-Tesla in for recall work and they hailed me an Uber to take me to my job and it ended up being a Tesla. It was my first time in a Tesla and when the ride was over I didn't know how to get out of the car as there was no door handle. There was a button on the door the driver told me to press and when I did it lowered the window a bit and moved the door slightly and the driver said the door is open now. Most confusing and unnecessary modification of something that has existed for decades without needing advancements: a door. Very unsettling there was no door handle and I later had to look up on my phone where the emergency release is and how to access it. I shouldn't have to do all that myself just as a one-time passenger in a rideshare. The thought of being trapped in one if my Uber driver got into an accident and the system locked the doors was alarming. If I was a female passenger unfamiliar with these vehicles, knowing a hostile driver could lock you in with no immediately visible way out was also troubling. I am never going to ride in a Tesla ever again and if my assigned rideshare driver is driving one I just ask for a different driver now.
If you go on YouTube and look at the comments on videos of how to use the emergency release latch on Tesla doors, there's people who own the cars saying they got trapped and didn't know how to get out and other people who say they know people who burned alive because they didn't know how to do what was shown in the video. These are deathtraps being sold to the American consumer.
My comment was specifically regarding people buying new models.and spending $40k+ and not having any idea about the cars because of zero research. Just typing "Cybertruck reliability" or "Tesla service" should bring up plenty to give someone a clue that Teslas are a dice roll.

My gut on Tesla is they made really good cars originally, and they probably had a strong team of automotive engineers who knew what they were doing. Now 10 years later I would assume those who knew what they were doing were eventually fired for disagreeing with Musk, so now we have a bunch of Gen Zs running the company with no experience. Its like they think no one ever thought of building a plastic car. Maybe cars are steel for a reason. Maybe gluing panels will not hold up over 200,000 miles. Maybe you spend more than 2 months testing before you drive without someone in the driver seat.
I very much think like you do regarding everyone else on the road around these, be it riding in a friend's car, an Uber, a rental that was cheap and sounded interesting to try...

When i picked up both of my teslas (2018 and 2023) the sales rep told specifically told me where they are. It’s also on the tutorial upon first startup. It really isn’t hard. I’m also suspicious because he keeps talking about a “keypad” which means what??
