Trunk won’t open on Sealion 7

arobenator | 2025-12-04 08:41 | 29 views

I got my Sealion 7 3 months ago (Australia). Today, my trunk won’t open using the fob, button or door switch. It tries to open a few cm, then closes itself again. Any suggestions? I’ve locked and unlocked the car, turned it on and off, still won’t open. Help! I love the car but cant handle this especially when there’s no actual manual option to use the boot!

Check the tailgate height in the settings.

If it prys open a few cms after activating open, use some manual override to fully extend to the top and then it might reset it's fully open position. Give this a try hopefully might fix it, manual override should not hurt it few times. Otherwise take it to service center for them to take a look at this issue. Not sure what is the minimum open stop position in settings menu. I set mine to 90 or 95 percent and it works perfect for me.

Along with checking the settings, fold down the rear seats and check if something is making it stick.

physically help it as it opens a few cms. if it doesn't budge, you'll need a service booking.

Mine has done the same. Assume the mechanism has failed. Need to book it in for a check. I now.jusy pish the button and then grab it and open it manually.

How do I manual override? There’s not enough room to get my fingers in. Is there a way to open it manually from inside the boot?

Based on your description you gave, you mentioned a few cms gap, so I thought you had enough room to stick your fingers in the gap to manually pry open by hand and follow what I mentioned earlier. If not then your service center is your last resort. Let us know your outcome and how you resolved.

Thanks, appreciate the help. By a few cm I literally mean 2-3cm - enough to see that it’s trying to open, but then closes and locks itself. Looks like I’ll be off to the service centre, will let you know what they say.

Let's hope it's a simple troubleshooting at the center and resolved. Good luck!

We had the same issue when we picked ours up and the dealership was able to do a height reset/adjustment and that seemed to fix ours up I say seemed to, because we were rear-ended that afternoon and are still waiting for the damage to be fixed, and the boot has the issue, but we assume that's from the tailgate damage causing some additional friction Our driveway is also quite steep, so we move the car down to a flatter area and the boot opens much more frequently there

Just had this on mine randomly after 6 months ownership and 11k km done. System reset didn’t work, nothing was stuck and the manual release had the same issue. Finally went into the settings and changed the tailgate height from 100% to the minimum 15% and that finally took. Moved it back to 100% and it’s fine still. Please don’t try to pry it open when it opens a few centimetres btw as I assume you like your fingers. I can image the dealership also causing issues if you decide to pry it with another tool of some sort. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again!

I have a S7 for 2 months now, my son recently change school and when I drop him off I park the car in this slight forward downslope. And the trunk does this behavior when i try to open it move like a cm or 2 then doesn’t get to open then just relocks. I drive away to another location and it opens just fine. The strange thing is I tested it out on a steeper slope and it opens just fine. It only refuses to open on the slight slope at my son’s school.

I think this was it! I’m going to go test it now…

Any luck with this. I have same issue. Thinking is was in hot weather.. I close it again and reopen while pushing up on the spoiler to open it. Will try the height settings.

I haven’t been able to replicate - it did it for about a week but has been working fine since then. I didn’t do anything it just fixed itself after a few days
