Wow, need to look into financing options before ordering.
I assume you don’t look at the menu? Those are decent prices. I haven’t seen chicken and waffles for $13.50 in forever.
I thought it would be a lot more, tbh, considering it's a gimmick associated with a premium brand *and* California prices. But it's comparable to a Red Robin in a low cost of living area.
So the hot dog price seems ok to you.
Yea the menu is honestly reasonably priced
No idea what you’re talking about. Prices are way more reasonable than I would have thought.
That's anything in California.
[deleted]
There fries and hash brown are fried in Tallow? Seriously?? Yeah I love my food fried in beef fat… :/
Most Americans do😂
Beef tallow actually slaps tho
For post-pandemic LA, these are extremely affordable prices
That’s generally a desired method for frying fries
For west La this is great
Happy to see vegan options, only about a 30m drive, will need to head over
Kids comes with fries
Can we get a non-X mirror?
"ingredients sourced within range of a fully charged Tesla" I gotta admit that's an amusing twist on locally sourced
I wouldnt call a $13 hotdog “extremely” affordable. The prices are “reasonable” at best.
What vegan options?
Alas, food-away-from-home has absolutely exploded in prices during and after the pandemic
Looks like another money grab. $17 chilli cheese dog?
The poors that only eat at Walmart coming out shocked at these prices 🤣
The soda
I would die for tallow fried fries near me
I saw grapes and avocados on the menu
Even the avocado toast is not vegan because of the buttermilk bread supposedly you can get coconut milk with some of the coffee drinks That leaves the barista drinks, kombucha, soda Salad with veggie patty And possibly the pies if they are not made with butter
It's in hollywood, so probably still affordable price?
Why?
Seems like an actually high quality hotdog. Not some Walmart hotdog that’s just filler. Why pay 25$ a burger when you can order one at McDonald and pay 3$? Same principle.
all the meals are under $20, thats' extremely good, especially in LA.
Yeah it’s amazing, and not at all controversial.
yeah was depressing to see no vegan option on the menu
I didn't even notice that! So cool to see. I've noticed more options for getting seed oil free foods, but it is basically impossible to find options when dining out. If even one local restaurant that had the option I'd go there almost exclusively.
Hollywood pricing, not terrible tbh but the food better be good or the experience better make up for the food if it's mediocre. My main gripe is the kids menu prices vs the adult versions, the burger being an obvious choice for scrutiny because of such a small price difference, not sure about serving sizes
These are like vegan options from 2003. Coconut milk, really?
Easy there buddy, no need to belittle people making less money, it's a world that's based on luck.
How does payment work? Someone said you could order from the car?
That's the only one that iffy The prices are good but the menu feels uninspired.
Maybe I’m old time but I grew up during a time when prices were half this
I think most people don’t realize how badly things could have gone for them if certain decisions, events etc. had been slightly different. Glad you reminded us.
Don’t even know 100% if the veggie patty is vegan. I know we are in the culture wars and everything but seriously, you’re an EV company in California. Read the room.
Nice try Robert F!
I've been seed oil (almost) free since late 2019, but I did wonder how this connects to the recent surge in people avoiding it. Musk was obviously connected with the same administration that RFK is working for so it could well be that awareness is spreading throughout the highest levels of government and then manifesting in this way. If so, very cool!
It's tied to your Tesla wallet default payment. The same one used for Supercharger fees.
I thought the pricing was good for a destination restaurant, especially for LA.
If you're eating fries, you're eating something unhealthy, whatever it's fried in.
With teslas supposed focus on climate change, this meat heavy menu is disappointing. You’d think they would promote sustainable nutrition but yeah, guess corporations gonna do their thing.
Guess we don’t care about the environment anymore? What happened to sustainability and reducing carbon footprints? This menu is very odd given Tesla’s mission.
The burger has a free veggie patty sub. Just ask to hold the cheese. The salad also has a veggie patty option. Plus most of the drinks.
I was confused at first, but kids menu includes fries.
I suspect this is a prototype for mass market appeal. Only 1% of Americans identify as vegan, and 4% as vegetarian. Most people expect tasty meat when they go to a diner and pay these prices. I am one of them. I would never stop at a vegan or vegetarian diner. They do have the veggie burger and salad if that’s your thing.
This place is supposedly open 24/7, is that true?
In LA even roll of toilet paper starts with $10 and up. So it only makes sense for a hotdog to be up there too LOL
Barely anybody is vegetarian. Get with the majority or take what you get.
Tallow fries are 100 times better.
Healthier and better tasting than seed oils.
That actually used to be the norm. McDonald's fried all their fries in beef tallow until they switched to vegetable oil with beef flavoring in 1990 over concerns about saturated fat. It's generally regarded that their fries were better before the switch.
Kinda goes against the point I was making but whateves
It’s not about personal preference but rather respecting their supposed mission for sustainability and fighting climate change. Without changing our eating habits, this is more or less a lost cause so it’s disappointing Tesla isn’t taking this stance or at least attempting to promote it. Like I said, corporations being corporations I suppose - profits > mission.
Unfortunately, it's not that easy. "Electric Sauce" (probably not vegan), and "Martin's Potato Roll" contains dairy products -- lettuce wrap?. And the "Veggie Patty" may or may not be vegan. Hopefully they'll have more options in short time (after more people bring it up in shop).
All the ingredients are pretty much top notch. Look at those brands! Seems reasonably priced for the quality to me. If they can cook, it should all be delicious. We can't even buy Martin's potato rolls in a store here. You guys just hate Elon. 😂
It's a diner...
You can go to Costco if you want it dirt cheap..
It’s the fact that its pretty much the same price as the burger. Also the kids grilled cheese is that price as well, that’s the true overcharge
Restaurant hot dogs are almost always overpriced.
Or just go somewhere else? Not every restaurant needs to have tons of vegan options.
I think Tesla made EVs cool for people who don’t care about climate change. I bought mine because it’s fast and has good range and great software and lots of trunk space. Climate change was a distant consideration. Their success is in making a great product first. If their diner concept is successful, imagine how many more EVs they will sell, and how many more miles people will travel by EV instead of gas. They make the whole road trip experience better, with good quality destination diners. This is far more impactful to the environment than a single vegan diner which no one visits.
I guess it would be nice to have a V label option. As you say, hopefully they make some tweaks :)
While vegetarianism is often healthier, the climate effects of meat appear to have been overstated substantially. It’s not negligible. but it’s not a huge driver.
Well that’s patently not true. This is similar to the O&G propaganda constantly being pushed by the media. Animal farming is absolutely one of the leading causes of climate change. [According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), livestock accounts for about 14.5% of all human-induced greenhouse gas emissions globally](https://www.fao.org/news/story/en/item/197623/icode/) [Comprehensive meta-analysis of food production covering 38,700 farms; showed that beef has the highest emissions per gram of protein.](https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.aaq0216)
Doesn’t need to be vegan but it absolutely can and should be more plant based in its focus. If teslas goal is to fight climate change (and that is effectively their mission per their investor documents), then having a menu like this goes against that. They should be leading with sustainable food practices by opening this diner but really, this is just another sign that their whole climate agenda is just marketing unfortunately. And I really doubt they are going to sell more cars because of this diner.
Well... "Locally" since a Tesla can go pretty far these days.
That’s the only item on the menu with a price that made me raise my brows but, to be fair, it’s an extra long beef-dog with what looks like some kind of small potato side. Whereas the other items don’t appear to include any side dishes like fries with the burger.
Not even fries. This is infuriating.
They usually egg wash those patties for crispiness.
That's why I think it's funny, a Tesla semi can go 500 miles
A paper menu? And how is a hot dog as much as a burger?
Ah that would help explain it
Why does only the club sandwich have epic bacon? I want all my bacon to be epic
Calling a hotdog for $13 reasonable is crazy…so glad I don’t eat out all the time; this is why people are always broke. I’d rather starve than pay $13 for mystery meat.
the menu is giving millennial burger place vibes but its a diner so what do you expect
People actually love the pricing’s
Also the soda could be made with a non-vegan cane sugar. Although most vegans are not that strict
Should have called it a cyber dog.
Unlimited supercharger people now get unlimited burgers 🍔😜
Weird pricing. Kids menu Grilled Cheese is 13, Adult Grilled Cheese is 9, side of fries is 4. Same price as adult, but for adult you can opt out of fries, making it cheaper.
The food here actually looks decent. I like!
It's not difficult to offer vegan options, the company even makes them available for in-car materials.
No it’s not 😂
chicken and waffles for $13 is insanely cheap, what are you smoking?
This is cheap for Hollywood “destination/instagram/hot-for-a-minute” spot. Like actually cheap.
You’re too broke for LA because this is CHEAP
Yes because vinyl plastic is actually cheaper and easier, and most customers can’t tell. People can tell when something is vegan usually, and they don’t want it and it’s almost always not cheaper.
How many locally, ethically sources places in LA are priced like that? I visit it a lot, and I am one of those ORGANIC, ETHICAL guys, and let me tell you, shit is expensive af in any place with nice decor. Which is fine, LA pays for it. 13$ in a place like this, with this quality of ingredients, in LA, is most certainly affordable, bordering on cheap.
You want menu's made out of titanium or some shit?
Mofo fries everything in tallow... Per RFK reco
Yes
Well I happen to have lucked out and even the richest people I know said the same thing, life is about luck. Even Bill gates said the same thing if it was about hard work then every fast food worker would be a millionaire
Hows the food?
crazy
Locally sourced* mystery meat
Covid ruined food prices.
So people are supposed to be happy to pay 13 bucks for a fucking hot dog??? I guess that's ok when your government keeps spending your money like there's no tomorrow.
Try "insane".
Stainless! 🤣 But seriously, even less techy companies have digital menus, mobile ordering, etc. I thought I read that you can order from your car’s screen, too, so a paper menu seems unnecessary.
I Hope they remove the salad too
I guess some people want to go inside, though I would have expected a website menu to be the preferred way. Maybe they specifically asked for it? (I doubt it though, they probably just have paper menus)
> “Muscles, Miss Taggart," Ben Nealy, the contractor, had said to her, "muscles—that's all it takes to build anything in the world.”
As a vegetarian, I seriously doubt it's even healthier. I do it for ethical (NOT climate) reasons, but I'm concerned I'm missing some essential nutrients
The solution to climate change will be technological, not degrowth. Tesla set out to make the best car ever, not a shitty-car-that-you-can-pretend-not-to-hate-because-it-might-be-saving-the-planet
It's apparently really affordable for LA
So, if all else fails (and it surely must), Elon Musk will be known as a latter day Howard Johnson? I'm ok with that. :-)
You apparently didn't read my comment very closely. I agree the pricing is fine, the value between the adult and kids burger just seemed off to me without full context...I lived in LA for 26 years friend
the people who pay $13 for a hot dog also are the ones who have no problem with the tipping culture. 20% tip please
Plant based protein is absolutely a technological solution to one of our biggest problems. Agricultural animal farming practices need to be looked at asap and Tesla 100% needs to look at this if they are at all serious about their supposed mission. As an owner of two teslas, I agree. The cars are great. I am not talking about their cars.
Tesla set out to make the best diner ever, not a shitty diner... If plant based meat was superior, customers would all demand it (not just exactly the 5% of people who are forced to by being vegetarian) Tesla is trying to provide a cool thing for the drivers of their cars to enjoy. Should they also not build megafactories to expand their battery business because building that battery factory requires a gas-powered excavator? If Tesla Diner becomes a massive consumer of meat, responsible for 0.3% of all agriculture greenhouse emissions, then maybe they should look into plant-based protein. Until then, they should make the best burgers ever and assume someone else can solve lab-grown real good meat, at which point they can switch to it in their extremely popular diners in all cities. Instead of having one, shitty, unpopular plant-based diner which can do nothing at all for the environment.
I mean, this is just a rant in bs and ignorance. Meat is only seen as better because people haven’t tried good plant based alternatives. It’s the same line as ICE vehicles before Tesla came along and showed how good EVs can be. What an utter crock your entire comment is.
Yeah, so it seems
> Meat is only seen as better because people haven’t tried good plant based alternatives I'm vegetarian. I haven't eaten meat for 2 years unless other people were going to throw it away... but god I love meat so much more than any plant-based alternative food. If becoming vegetarian had opened me up to a gospel of awesome food far superior to what other people were cluelessly eating, I would be preaching it. Perhaps I'm ignorant, but I think you're in the 99th percentile for liking plant based foods and 90%+ of people will prefer any good steak to a good soybean Also, please consider that > Tesla 100% needs to look at this if they are at all serious about their supposed mission. you are being a little hysterical. No, we can still enjoy a few steaks and live on a beautiful planet.
Try reading my comment again...
I’m just wondering if they have a dedicated space on the griddle for frying up those veggie patties. I certainly wouldn’t want my veggie patty cooked on top of a bunch of burger juice.
Tallow fried fries and avocado toast/organic draft kombucha on the same menu does not even out 😂
I wish 😂
Boring dog
What's wrong with serving good food? lol you can claim there are good vegan or vegetarian food out there but there isn't any.
lol
Do you have to own a tesla to dine in or out ?
buddy you can't go a block in LA without tripping over a taco truck that can serve you better tacos for way cheaper.
this was the menu when it opened two weeks ago - menu is totally different now!
