Tesla Dojo supercluster looks more cyber and refined than xAI's Nvidia Colossus, which looks more of a conventional data center

It just looks like the Tesla racks have some kind of beauty cover on them.

Brace for impact as Elon haters flood the comments and explain why it sucks.

*a loud screech is heard in the distance*

I don't think it sucks, but it wouldn't spend money on looks of a data center if it doesn't provide any function

DIY_Colorado_Guy 2025-04-18 11:31

This entire cabinet is custom built for AI function. Entirely new approach..... so it's not just pretty.

HenryLoenwind 2025-04-18 11:47

To be honest, with stuff that sits around in data centres, I prefer an aesthetic that is as boring and functional as possible. Every time I see some stylish and designed thing, I instinctively doubt its professionalism. Every cent the manufacturer spent on making it look good is one that could have been gone towards making it work well, or could have been saved to make it cheaper. And, to be fair, this doesn't apply to Dojo. Those air guards are highly functional and look like they asked the prototype car shop next door to quickly make them. I am, however, a bit concerned that those fibres seem to be only supported by their plugs on one side. I'd put in at least a hook to velcro the bundle to.

uh you can't go by appearance

Capital_Phase4980 2025-04-19 09:42

ah yes, "ai function" dcs design is always based around power delivery and thermal mgmt. the alignment on standards is caused by interop and cost savings, but sure "entire new approach".

before elon went into politics, we would get lots of articles about how musk and tesla wanted to make its factories beautiful. its robots would all have cool names. it was postulated that this helped tesla (along with its mission) help attract and keep the best talent. (maybe even at a discount). I wish I was capable of being a guy who had a house and room that look sharp, but I just don't care in my mind I would rather spend the money on something useful. but a lot of brilliant people are type A and like that sharp look, so I think its interesting to make the data center better looking from that regard. if a million bucks keeps up morale and retaining talent then it may be well spent. keep in mind, over its history tesla talent has been continually poached.

Cyber refined cabinet doors.

Rxyro 2025-05-04 14:49

Fiber flaps and disconnects are a big deal

godnorazi 2025-05-21 04:50

Reminds me of the plastic covers they put over the engine in new cars these days

MaximGhost69 2025-07-26 08:45

These things LITERALLY run 24/7/365. So ... blocking airflow with aesthetically pleasing beauty covers is NOT what you want to do.
