Before I die I want to see humans walk the moon again and I want to see the Roadster roll off the line.

Stop announcing shit 10 years before it’s ready. So ridiculous
Sucks for those that put down a deposit.
It’s there a demand for a super fast death trap? It’s scary to floor my cyberbeast, I can’t imagine I would drive the roaster outside of a drag race track. I mean many people will buy it as a garage queen, but I doubt they can sell it at volume.
I have a feeling a 250,000 car is not designed to be sold at an equivalent volume as a model 3/Y
This issue is with their judgment of when it's ready, not their decision on when to announce it.
I think it’s mostly an ideological difference between people driving a giant truck that takes up a huge amount of road vs. a tiny nimble sports car – even if they were equally fast.
There issue is they promises a bunch of youtubers free cars
It’s shipping just before FSD goes unsupervised ;)

The plaid basically meets all the original roadster specs besides range. Thats “half” the reason why the roadster stopped most development. The other half of it was the half billion in cars they would have to give away.
It’s so funny. This is how they treat millionaire customers. The Roadster will double in price due to inflation
They announced it with specs it didn't have, like a 620 mile range. They can't actually deliver those specs so it stays "in development."
The roadster design seems useful enough to actually do some really fun cross country (USA) roadtrips in. Though I would hope it would have some acceleration options inbetween "chill" and "beyond Plaid".
Flooring something as heavy as a cybertruck isn’t the same as a sports car. Flooring it in a hummer ev felt scarier to me than a model s even though it wasn’t as fast.
I assume they thought this thing would use the 4680s and well... I suspect those plans are out the window
They should have never come out with it in the first place. It’s completely unnecessary for their mission.
Regular PSA: Don’t preorder.
I'd argue it's not even supposed to sell at Model S/X or CT volume.
Should have dumped 50k into tesla stock instead of putting down deposit.. lol
Hmm how else is the stock supposed to go up then, without hyped up vaporware?
I would be completely shocked if this thing even made it to production within 10 years of the announcement, which was 2017.
What? You’re comparing driving a roadster that sits ultra low to the ground to your cybertruck? The roadster will be similar to a model three performance but sit lower and faster. And no one feels like the model three performance is a death trap. That is if it ever gets produced.
It's the Duke Nukem: Forever of cars.
I will be able to afford one when it finally does come out.
And I remember debating with people on this sub about how realistic the “SpaceX” package was back around 2017ish. There were users trying to prove to me how all the math for using compressed air rockets actually works out and how they’d be shipping a flying Roadster by 2020. People actually took his shitposting seriously back then lol.
[deleted]
Lol it's effectively canceled. They just don't want to return the deposits
the spacex roadster will come out right around the time the amphibious exploring cybertruck comes out
It will be able to fly or at least jump in short spurts as Elon said. You can say he's lying, but then I'll have to disagree strongly.
they should have spare capacity in Berlin to run the roadster production.
Driving a 7000 pound tank that goes 0-60 really fast seems more dangerous imo. That shit is not going to stop or turn. Teslas are extremely fast, but do not have racing parts like brakes or suspension, and an extremely heavy truck just compounds that mismatching.
Bingo,,, we have a winner!
I hope they've got separate development and production lines. They already announced they'll produce updated Model S/X in 2025.
Well it can be amphibious…. Once
It is a $50K deposit but that was still an easy $500K. Although if you have $50K in pocket change to throw down on a $250K (will be $500K by launch) car you've probably made some other good investments.
> I’ll have to disagree strongly Why? Why do you think he *wasn’t* lying?
Remember all the [Tesla Roadster vs Bugatti Chiron](https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/7e2ze2/tesla_vs_bugatti/) memes?
Because unlike stuff like FSD where mere over-optimism can cause delays, I've never known him to outright lie on such an easily verifiable, binary-outcome statement. Either it did get off the ground, or it didn't. There's no in between here. I would put money on it. Do you really think it won't fly for at least a couple of seconds, or do you think it won't be able to be able to jump either?
[removed]
Chiron’s successor is now out and a bunch of other companies have shipped their own EV supercars yet the Roadster is still nowhere to be seen lol.
It's a bummer. They could have contracted Multimatic (or someone else) out to make these low-volume, they didn't have to keep it in a development black hole for eight years. Heck, I'm sure a bunch of other OEMs would have been down for a collab 4-5 years ago.
or more? it's been 10 years since the OTA update for the P85D was "in the next few weeks" to fix the lack of power at higher speeds And almost 10 years since "through over the air updates, you'll be able to summon your model S from anywhere connected by roads in the country and it will charge itself along the way"
The 4680 promise on battery day has been a failure.
The amount of people buying these are so few it doesn't matter. In the super car space, rich people wait years to purchase cars.
Who would buy Tesla now anyway
Yep, any car is amphibious if you’re brave enough
At this rate it will never launch.
I don't understand this, they demoed one many years ago that was probably hand built, just sell hand-built models for a crazy high price. This isn't going to be a mass production vehicle so don't treat it like one.
Tesla Roadster is the new GTA 6
> My friend, which rock have you been living under??? Lying involves deceit and saying something you know not to be true. He can sometimes be misinformed, or massively optimistic, and spout that, but that's not the same thing as lying. > The doubt was about offering it as a consumer-ready package for a street legal car and still pass all the bars for safety, reliability, practicality, etc. Okay that's a fairer statement. I still think they'll come out with it and that they've solved the loudness problem you speak of. Time will tell!

I want to hear about what they are working on. If you don't, then don't read.
If you can’t tell the different between my criticism and what you claim to want, then don’t comment.
SAIC released the MG Cyberstar last year, which is probably the closest your going to get for now if your looking for sporty drop top 2 seater EV. For sale in Europe and a few other markets, never will come to the US though due to tariffs. 495bhp, all wheel drive, 0-60 3.1s, 276 miles of range. [https://www.mgcyberster.co.uk/](https://www.mgcyberster.co.uk/)
I know two reservation holders, they both are holding on to getting it. They want the car more than they want the money back. It's pretty crazy hype for a first attempt at a hypercar that has been indefinitely delayed.
Lmao that would be hilarious as I remember the original roadster being in GTAV 12 years ago.
The hypercar is all hype. But seriously, the roadster specs were amazing. I want to see them hit the road with the specs they advertised. I'm sure the reservation holders you know barely care about the $50k, so they'll have a blast with the car if it ever gets released. I'm still sour about how they released the cybertruck though, canceled my reservation after the announcement. I think we're long past ever seeing a 40K EV truck.
Whoa now, it's only been 8 years since showing it. Latest design was suppose to be unveiled at end of 2024, so we're still 2 years out before delivery. https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/1b350wf/the_new_2024_tesla_roadster_will_arrive_at_the/ I'm sure the thrusters or whatever they add will add a lot of hype for a period of time though. Just wait and see at this point, I bet the price doubles at this rate too though. https://x.com/SawyerMerritt/status/1893753993643303414/photo/1
They’re just waiting for me to make enough to afford one.
I thought the Roadster came out a decade ago?
Yep. Just like CT. First announced at 40k RWD, 50k for AWD, and $70k for Tri motor. AWD is currently at $80k.
Rip tesla
Wouldn't have mattered if they didn't take preorders or released it as a concept.
I don't think they care about keeping the deposits, it's such a tiny amount of money. But they'd have to admit that they were massively wrong, which they don't like to do.
I wonder how much of it is regulations? Are you allowed to make a car without side mirrors and door handles? Maybe they're waiting to get the laws change and don't want to compromise on the design.
If it was the same price as say a corvette I’d be so excited but who’s got 250k for this :(
"Funding secured to take TSLA private"
Gives me more time for the investments to build to pay for one. I'm patient...
Who is lars and what purpose does this serve?
Don't they still owe a bunch of "influencers" and YouTube "personalities" a ton of free roadsters from that promotion? Pretty sure that's why it's never coming. It was always a scam tbh. Designed to raise capital, pump the stock, and build hype. And it worked!
It's a publicly traded company. A publicly traded company's only mission, and I mean this quite literally, is to make as much money as possible.
This would not prevent them from releasing it if they really wanted to. The cybertruck was hindered by regulations (which is how we got the silly massive wiper glued to the side) but they made the compromises and went with it. FWIW cars don't need side mirrors in the EU.
It’s too bad the Toyota partnership wasn’t more fruitful. I’d love to have RAV4 or Lexus crossover with Tesla powertrain. But of course Toyota wouldn’t wanna deal with Tesla’s “move fast and break stuff” way of doing things.
I’m thinking they can’t get even close to the promised range. Not that it’d really matter. Probably plenty of people would still buy it even if the range is 250 miles.
I wish they would/could sell it here. I’d love to have one!
HyperCar problems. The delays aren’t unique unfortunately. Search any Super/Hyper Car in the last 40 years that has been a real engineering feat and they all have delays. Good news is once they figure out the problems, the following models will flow out easy. Perfect example is the Veyron. 10 to 20 year development cycle, now all the subsequent models just flow out. I believe the AMG project one is finally about to make deliveries as well
Weak AF
They lied about its specs. Tesla would be sued for billions of dollars if they release a product that doesn’t come close to matching most of the specs they promised.
well, now is the time to buy for a longer term investment.
OK, I will sell you mine when it comes out.
Oooh...
Those poor saps not getting any interest on those 50/250k deposits.
you could take back the deposit back then, so it was immeasurably safer, the stock market is a different game, risking 250k in a single stock in those days would've been insane, no one knew that tesla would rise that much, its easy to say now that tesla's stock is huge
Have a look at the TVR chimera doors and let me know if you see a handle ;)
Why not? It’s a brilliant way to borrow money at zero % interest from all the preorders.
Bulletproof cybertruck

I wouldn’t say it was a lie a of product. They have a few working examples the problem is They just don’t work well lol For example how long was the Mercedes Project One in development? I think what happened is the roadster isn’t priority anymore. Sucks for the buyers but that’s usually how this goes. The new Roadster will release eventually, maybe compromises to get it through but it will show up.
