I saw a video the other day of a cybercab thing entering a building to be displayed over some ramps. That thing must have a wheel.

Interesting just how much wider the S is behind it. I’m bearish on fsd but gotta admit this looks great. So we think that’s a seatbelt that’s been attached to make fsd work because the software isn’t yet mature enough for cybercab? Want to bet there’s a bag of potatoes on the seat too? Lol

Every minute i think about it more, it becomes more stupid for that thing not to have a steeringwheel.

Hoping that this will be introduced as the Model 2. Otherwise, Tesla will be hurt by the absence of a small car in its lineup.

It would make sense, and it would be the perfect size for a European hatchback, with the roof less sloped and seat for 4/5 passengers.

But will a small two seater help the line up? There is no room for rear seats in the cyber cab.

Tesla will sell the cyber cab with no steering wheel and it won’t be street legal for level 3+ yet and you will have to pay extra for the steering wheel and pedals when it comes out.

It's not a steering wheel. It has been discussed with engineers that they just use a controller when they need to steer it manually. Youtuber futuraza had lots of discussions with cybercab engineers, they've spent so long trying to take as much stuff out in order to simplify design, that they have not put in any of the hardware needed to have a wheel.

The Xpeng Mona M03 is coming to china for $16k USD so hopefully Tesla can get the MQ to a competitive price.

I’d love a small cheap 2 seater with a winter range of 150km.

What else are they going to do? Current FSD reliability requires a human to take over often and so you need a steering wheel for doing any testing on public roads.

Some people would definitely like it, but for Tesla to get the growth it needs, it needs a cheap mainstream EV.

The model 3 is still too expensive for many people. A cheaper Tesla that can carry a family of 4 is a needed if they want to sell millions of additional cars.

I don't see why Tesla would sell a Model 3 alternative for less than a model 3. If Tesla is going to sell a low cost Tesla they're going to target a distinct market.

Virtually all car companies sell multi sedans in different styles and price points. That was less of an issue in the early adoptor days of EVs, but as they go mainstream, it is more important. Many (most?) families cannot afford a Model 3, but they want an EV. If Tesla does not have something for that market, they will go elsewhere. The Model 3 can be Tesla’s mid range vehicle, the S the high, and the Q/2/whatever it’s called, can cover the lower end.

If you look at the steering wheel on the Model S behind it, it kind of looks the same on the Cybercab.

Most of the world apart from the US & Canada would love a car that size. That's considered a "normal" car everywhere else. And most of those car journeys are for just 1 person, going a short distance, so why have a massive 7 seat SUV with 600 mile range when you're just needing it to drive 10km a day?

What a stupid project, just like the truck. Waste of resources to build this thing that won’t sell well. 2 seats 2 doors are lowest selling cars. Should have used the resources to create new models or update existing models.

I agree 7seat SUVs are overkill most of the time, but a 2 seater (cybercab+steering) is too small. None of the top 50 selling cars in the world are 2 seaters and only 1 is in the top 100, so I’m not sure I would be considered a “normal car” in most of the world.

As you can see from [this link for the EU stats](https://www.eea.europa.eu/publications/ENVISSUENo12/page029.html), the average occupancy rates per trip is less than 2.0 people in every country in Europe (the stats per country are in different tables in that link). **Most** of the time, nobody needs a car with more than two seats. It's just out of panic that we all say "oh, but what if...?" Yeah, what if I need to move the entire kids basketball team? What if I need to move a sofa? What if I need to transport 100 two-by-fours? We don't need to buy a vehicle for the edge cases, but when we do need one for those conditions, it's dead easy to rent one.

I would bet 90% of Gen-Z and younger would probably drive better using a gamepad. It's like watching my 8 year old nephew "type" faster on his ipad than me on my keyboard

It does not mater if “most” trips have 2.0 or less people. Some trips need more, which is why two seater cars are not very popular. Needing 3 to 4 people in the car is not an “edge case”, it extremely common use case for many people, especially for any family with children.

You're going off-topic with this argument. The original point still stands: most car trips are perfectly fine with a 2-seater car. The statistics support this, it's not my personal feeling or opinion or preference. It's just reality. Therefore, a 2-seater cybercab would meet most trip needs easily. If it wasn't the case, Tesla wouldn't have invented a 2-seater car. For all other needs and purposes, there are other vehicles that people can buy, rent, hire.

Tesla’s 2 seater is for a taxi. For a driverless taxi it may make some sense. We’ll see about sales when it actually ships. Fully unsupervised FSD is still a ways off in my opinion. However, this discussion was about adding a steering wheel to the cyber cab and selling as a “normal” car. 2 seater cars are not very popular, which is why only one China made 2 seater is even in the top 100 selling cars in the world. Convincing people to buy a 2 seater is an uphill battle. Even if “logically” that all they need most of the time, people don’t want to have to have several cars for common trip use cases.

I wasn’t aware that the robocab was a two seater. Still it would not be difficult to convert cargo space into a rear seat.

It's likely a Bluetooth or wireless controller. Instead of having to rely on the Xbox or PS5 controller for testing/moving of the car.

I don’t think it would be easy to add more seats due to the slope of the back. I rode in one during the robotaxi event and got a pretty good closeup look inside and out. There was no room at all behind the front seats.

I’m sure there’s some truth to that. As crazy as it is to even imagine it, I’d probably steer better depending on the circumstances. Though I feel like it’d be much harder at highway speeds or curvy roads.

Maybe the production model is just the same model with a steering wheel controller bolted to the dashboard. I suspect everything will be drive by wire after cybertruck anyway.

That's the A pillar shadow ... Even if it was a steering wheel, I wouldn't get your hopes up, I would imagine it's a wheel for engineers during testing.
