Bad 12v battery? I’ve had the same and that was the solution

I have a lithium battery with a condenser. It will never go flat.

Collision avoidance software kicked in. I've never experienced a total stop, more of a tug on the wheel and a jab of the brakes as the software alerts me to a potential hazard.

Mine was defect, not flat. Maybe it has nothing to do with it in your case, but for me it was the problem

Did you have the same battery as mine or is it a lead battery?

Yep, this happened to me as well. Completely unnecessary autonomous emergency braking in regular traffic. Scary. BYD need to get on top of it.

I "think" I've been able to manually override the AEB by completely releasing and then flooring the accelerator. It has never just stopped responding and require a restart for the car to come back. I'd say you should have it checked by the dealership, but they probably won't do anything or just tell you everything's alright with the car. So a specialized EV repair shop might be the best alternative (I don't know how developed and trustworthy those services are in your country).

Everything is logged, I'd be asking the service centre to provide detail about exactly what happened and why the car would not respond to the accelerator.

+1 to this. You would have to quickly switch between brake and accelerator pedal for the AEB to disengage and for you to continue driving/moving along in traffic. It takes time and the presence of mind, to do the above maneuver, similar to race car drivers 😅

Yes, I agree. I'm no racing driver, but I know a "regular" driver might not have the same reaction in that kind of situations.

It definitely catches one by surprise. 2-3 times even the car got confused about whom to save, a stray dog, a human or a person on a motorcycle. (I live in India, that would explain the chaos I have said in one sentence 😂) That's when I found a gap after all the obstacles moved to the left, and then just floored it to escape all 3, otherwise the heavy vehicle trailing me from behind would have rear ended me.

My BYD Atto 3 12V battery was replaced within the first six months under warranty, and it had zero impact on the autonomous systems when it started to drop because once the 400V battery is engaged, it isn't particularly relevant. The issue with the 12 volt battery is it doesn't allow you to start the car at all because it won't kick in the module that turns on the 400 volt. Facts are better than speculation

My car started doing weird things because of the bad 12v battery, that isn’t speculation. It isn’t there just to start the car you know… One of the situations I had was the same as OP’s situation, but it wasn’t really normal breaking, the car switched off while driving but it’s hard to tell the difference. If OP want facts about his car he should go to the garage, if he wants to hear a possible explanation or experiences I can respond on Reddit.

Fair enough. A lot of the modules are 12 volt, and no doubt low voltage would do some weird shit. I didn't experience it, and I haven't heard of it from the BYD Australia group, but you're entirely possibly right.

You can, but it restarts every time. It's AEB .

That's exactly how I avoided being rear-ended. I had to smash the throttle to avoid it when it just decided to stop in the middle of traffic.

They didn't even know what they were doing when I went to the dealership to report the AEB events.

Are you OP's 2nd account? That sucks, my dealer has been really good; there's definitely some bad stories on here about terrible dealers though.

No, I'm not OP. I've just had a BYD for three years and it's not uncommon at all.

Is yours a Seal too? Same dead accelerator experience?

No, BYD, Atto, 3 for the past three years. I've had some pretty random emergency braking events which I do not like. Otherwise, I love the car.

Yeah, my Seal did initially, but it's been fine since an update; hopefully they fix yours too 🤞 First I've heard of a dead accelerator like OP though.
