Nah, nothing to do with the car being at fault. Someone placed fireworks inside the CT.

Homes and factories burn down because of fireworks.

Suitable_Switch5242 2025-01-01 20:56

Gunpowder can in fact explode especially in large quantities.

saecocadmus 2025-01-01 20:57

Same idiot died.

Suitable_Switch5242 2025-01-01 20:58

From the videos though it didn’t go up in flames like an EV fire typically does. It went from zero to an immediate large explosion. Seems more consistent with explosives (like a bunch of fireworks) going off in the enclosed truck bed.

Jon-Umber 2025-01-01 20:59

Yes because everyone knows an internal combustion car has never exploded or caught fire, ever.

DuneProphecy 2025-01-01 21:00

Cybertruck, fireworks, parked right in front of the trump lobby. Definitely looks like a bomb went off - not just fireworks. This seems like a middle finger to Trump and president elect Musk. This picture will be on the cover of Time magazine. "America's Future". https://preview.redd.it/mf2k7lm75gae1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ea80345a2a715a3bf2bae86d4b6b68c25ae582f

100% fireworks , you can see the colours. I have had a roll of paper towel light on fire sitting inside one of those metal mixing bowls outside before. This could be the Vegas heat and sun. The location of this is the only conspicuous thing.

akmustg 2025-01-01 21:18

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this was 100% politically motivated.

BuySellHoldFinance 2025-01-01 21:22

With an EV explosion, there is smoke to indicate a battery fire. Thermal runaway can cause explosions shortly afterwards. [https://youtu.be/AmbHpqWjMVE?t=12](https://youtu.be/AmbHpqWjMVE?t=12) It's strange that there is no smoke at all before the explosion.

Justforreddit99 2025-01-01 21:23

Wheels appear to be smoking.

BuySellHoldFinance 2025-01-01 21:25

I know what you are talking about, but that is not smoke. It is light. Smoke moves and there is no movement near the wheels on those bright spots.

ZeroWashu 2025-01-01 21:25

GTRacer1972 2025-01-01 21:26

Why don't Teslas have manual door handles? Why is it too much to ask for an easy way to get out if your car is on fire and you lost power? Is it part of the appeal, no common sense? I just read an article saying you need special tools to get to some of the emergency latches, and it might not even be something you go over with everyone before they get in a Teals with you. Regular cars, assuming the door isn't jammed shut, you can simply open the door from the inside. It feel like it should be an industry standard to be able to open the doors. Other EVs have manual door handles, why not Tesla? What problem was solved by eliminating them?

swords-and-boreds 2025-01-01 21:28

Is there any actual evidence of this? Seems more likely some idiot filled their bed with fireworks and didn’t take the proper precautions to make sure they wouldn’t ignite.

GTRacer1972 2025-01-01 21:28

Assuming they're stored safely it shouldn't matter which car they are in. Did the fireworks set off the Tesla or did the Tesla catch fire and set off the fireworks?

c-zilla402 2025-01-01 21:30

They do

[deleted] 2025-01-01 21:30

That’s mental gymnastics at its finest. It was purposeful. Take that to the bank.

swords-and-boreds 2025-01-01 21:33

I prefer evidence over vibes, so I won’t be taking that to the bank quite yet.

downtuning 2025-01-01 21:34

Indeed. The CT isn't for me, but I get it. Drive a Tesla 3 here...

LordFUHard 2025-01-01 21:34

How would they ignite on their own? Do you carry open flames on your car at all times? They are fireworks. They are designed to be safe af until actually ignited the proper way.

[deleted] 2025-01-01 21:36

The video is the evidence. Enjoy eating crow in a few hours/days.

swords-and-boreds 2025-01-01 21:37

Let’s wait until this is investigated. Could be intentional, could be an accident involving explosives, could be just your run of the mill battery fire.

AltoExyl 2025-01-01 21:38

That’s a lot of words to be wrong from the first line. They do, they all have easily located emergency manual door releases. No tools necessary. I, as a responsible driver, always mention the door handles to new passengers when they get in my car.

dmunjal 2025-01-01 21:39

It was 8am and probably close to 50F outside. It does look like fireworks but with an accelerant.

forzion_no_mouse 2025-01-01 21:41

It was morning in Vegas, so probably cold, not in direct sunlight. Watching the video it looks intentional with something setting them off.

GregoInc 2025-01-01 21:43

And who says Tesla's don't have explosive performance 🤣

SpicyFarts1 2025-01-01 21:45

>100% fireworks , you can see the colours. While there are definitely fireworks involved, this explosion was not "100% fireworks". Firery explosions like that generally require gasoline to be involved. Other kinds of explosives, including fireworks, don't make flaming explosions like that on their own. **Update:** Now that more details have come out, it's absolutely clear that there were more than just fireworks in the bed. There was also a propane tank (among other things) in the bed, which is one of the things that would cause a firery explosion like we saw.

shellacr 2025-01-01 21:47

How is one supposed to transport fireworks? Anyway seems like it’s too large of an explosion for that alone. edit: The CT was rented on Turo like the Lightning in New Orleans. This was a suicide bombing. Pretty moronic to use a CT, which contained the explosion.

CatFancier4393 2025-01-01 21:47

/r/confidentlyincorrect

TheManDapperDan 2025-01-01 21:49

How would these fireworks ignite? Just because there's a lot of fireworks together doesn't mean it's prone to blow up

TheManDapperDan 2025-01-01 21:50

Evidence fine, explain the precautions that should be taken to keep dry fireworks in a car?

[deleted] 2025-01-01 21:52

canikony 2025-01-01 21:56

FutureAZA 2025-01-01 21:57

nevetsyad 2025-01-01 21:57

Apparently, there's footage of the driver pulling up, staying in the truck, then detonating. Can't find links or official statements, but it makes sense.

BearSpray007 2025-01-01 21:57

…Soooo just another Cybertruck malfunction? Got it 🤨

nevetsyad 2025-01-01 21:58

First frame of the explosion, you can see it simultaneously coming from the windows of the cab, truck bed, and out from under the truck. It was an explosion, and fireworks mixed it.

swords-and-boreds 2025-01-01 21:59

I don’t really have any emotional stake in this. So “eating crow” isn’t really a possible outcome. People here seem to be taking this pretty personally, and I can’t for the life of me understand why. How hard is it to just wait for the facts?

[deleted] 2025-01-01 22:01

[deleted]

swords-and-boreds 2025-01-01 22:03

Same as keeping them anywhere else. Keep them in a cool place with no possibility of fire or sparks. If there were fireworks involved, something happened to ignite them, either intentionally or accidentally. If accidentally, it was either a vehicle malfunction or the driver stored them unsafely. There are a lot of variables here, which is why I will keep saying until I’m blue in the face, wait for the facts! Flying off the handle without evidence or the ability to think critically is how Musk got elected president in the first place, I’d prefer everyone start trying to change that tendency now so we can right the ship.

meowed 2025-01-01 22:03

HellveticaNeue 2025-01-01 22:07

Right. The driver of the truck in New Orleans apparently rented the truck on the Turo app.

scribblenaught 2025-01-01 22:07

Not all fireworks are designed the proper way. Having them close to anything that is hot can set off improperly designed fireworks. Most fireworks you buy that are “legal” are fine, but pack in some illegal ones found from a random guy selling them outside his (cyber)truck.. Not saying this is what happened, but I wouldn’t discount it until investigated

stampfercamper 2025-01-01 22:16

Yeah… and by watching the video you can see the air suspension lower and explode from the base of the truck, not from the back. Fireworks were definitely there but nothing in the bed could have been the cause of the explosion https://preview.redd.it/t49q35ksigae1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b530d50e570df07929872dd708691ff1ccd4d63

RandyBeaman 2025-01-01 22:17

My understanding is that the driver never exited the car so assuming it was intentional then it was a suicide bombing. Anyone doing that is clearly not in the correct mental state.

swords-and-boreds 2025-01-01 22:19

Thanks for the link.

ryzenguy111 2025-01-01 22:22

Driver was inside, unfortunately, so probably just that

Slypenslyde 2025-01-01 22:28

I don't understand the obsession with saying this. Help me out. It makes more sense to me to say, "I think this was an intended or accidental detonation of a bomb that used fireworks." Otherwise it feels like you're saying, "I think it's normal for cars to explode if you put a lot of fireworks in them." I can assure you from my Texas neighborhood that is not the case, or there would be a lot of funerals today based on the hundreds of dollars of fireworks everyone here seemed to take home in their perfectly normal cars with no explosions. So then that also feels like you're saying, "This is a special quirk of Cybertrucks" and that sure stretches the realm of what I'll accept. Spontaneous explosion shouldn't really be a feature of a car. There's been some news of CTs catching fire lately, but all the reliable ones I see usually involve an accident or some other circumstances that make me think "Right, the battery pack got damaged, this is an abnormal case." "I parked in front of a hotel" is not an abnormal case. Again, I think we both agree, but the way you're saying it sounds... odd. Tons of people across the nation put tens of pounds of explosives in their car this month and they didn't explode. That is NOT an expected outcome in a normal vehicle. I also don't think it's a normal outcome for a Cybertruck. Something fishy happened here, and the fireworks were a part of it. If they're the sole cause, that says bad things about the car.

GirlyFootyCoach 2025-01-01 22:28

Democrat buys fireworks and doesn’t store them properly should be the more accurate headline

[deleted] 2025-01-01 22:35

This wasnt a battery fire look at the video you can see the fireworks going off en masse

EVMad 2025-01-01 22:37

The fireworks, it was a deliberate act as someone was seen running from the car just before they went off. No sign that the traction battery has started to burn, it's all well above that.

swords-and-boreds 2025-01-01 22:38

Battery fire could easily ignite a bunch of fireworks.

[deleted] 2025-01-01 22:39

The location and the car is just way too convenient for it to be random. Elon Musk also released a statement saying that the CyberTrucks telemetry data showed zero deviation or error before the explosion took place. It is all but confirmed intentional sabotage

OnlineForABit 2025-01-01 22:41

I don't disagree with you, but the video that's out there doesn't show anyone running from the car. ABC reporting that the driver was killed.

skelectrician 2025-01-01 22:47

Do you leave fireworks on the dashboard of your car in the hot Nevada sun? Yeah they're designed to be safe, when they're not being improperly stored.

elchapodon 2025-01-01 22:47

The Tesla having fire works doesn’t matter.

elchapodon 2025-01-01 22:49

EVMad 2025-01-01 22:50

According to Tesla telemetry, no, it didn't. This was a rented Cybertruck which was deliberately destroyed to make some sort of statement. https://www.irishstar.com/news/us-news/tesla-explosion-fireworks-bomb-musk-34404679

ersatzcrab 2025-01-01 23:00

I mean, for sure the battery began to burn *after* the fireworks went off. You think it was inverse? That the battery (which was not burning in the video) set off the fireworks? EDIT: looks like I was wrong. The battery didn't ignite at all. You can tell from this image, the tires are still inflated and the bottom of the truck is completely intact. If the battery went up this would look like a very different photo. https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/s/ZstaAFZ8cG

Apart_Tutor8680 2025-01-01 23:02

Google a mortar firework (inside a washing machine) or something. Plenty of videos of people blowing stuff up with them. It’s not a little firecracker. It’s a mortar. And google lithium battery fires. They look nothing alike.

Huntred 2025-01-01 23:05

If the truck battery ignited, I would expect that truck to burn pretty intensely for a very long time.

According to Musk, they have confirmation it was from fireworks in the bed of the truck.

ReflectedImage 2025-01-01 23:15

Well according to the video footage the fire started at the bottom of the vehicle, which is the battery pack.

kendrid 2025-01-01 23:16

It has been reported that the driver rent the Cybertruck from Turo.

patprint 2025-01-01 23:17

There have been EV crashes, including those involving Tesla vehicles, that have scattered individual cells from the modules, some of which ignite while offgassing after being punctured. That's true entirely regardless of this Cybertruck explosion.

An atom bomb is almost impossible to set off **BY ACCIDENT**. But if set off deliberately, the result is even more spectacular.

TimTom8321 2025-01-01 23:24

Maybe, but have you seen the video? There were many fireworks who were scattered and the exploded in an artistic way, like perfectly sending smoke in 8 ways around it and shit. That's not something that you would expect a battery to do, unless someone in CATL wanted people to enjoy the show in case someone's EV exploded

[deleted] 2025-01-01 23:24

Veritas_Gt3 2025-01-01 23:32

No

patprint 2025-01-01 23:32

Edit: I'm not sure how this was so misinterpreted, see my comment below. I literally said "regardless of the Cybertruck explosion." EV batteries have absolutely disintegrated in a manner that sends individual cells flying, which themselves ignite and appear to "explode" sporadically. No, it doesn't look like fireworks. The comment I was responding to said "no battery explodes into smaller exploding pieces", and that is demonstrably false even if limiting scope to Tesla vehicles. I didn't say anything about a Cybertruck being capable exploding in a manner that looks like fireworks. Look up the two old Model S crashes that sent glowing and popping 18650 cells in every direction.

The CT wouldn't do it by itself by accident. It can be done intentionally remotely with the app. But I'm not going to say how because some crazy person might do it.

yubario 2025-01-02 02:11

No, he said that the explosion was caused by a bomb or fireworks. Not that it was caused from the fireworks itself. The main reason he made any statement was because people were wondering if the car had failed and the battery itself caused the explosion, according to the telemetry data they have, he confirmed the explosion was external.

Gr33nbastrd 2025-01-02 02:28

I just watched a press conference on this and it wasn't just a handful of Roman candles or something like that. It had large firework mortars, camp fuel and gas containers. This wasn't an accident, the person driving the Cybertruck rented it and drove it to Vegas and tried to use it as a bomb! If they had used a different vehicle it would have done a lot more damage. The majority of the blast went up instead of sideways due to the strength of the Cybertruck. https://youtu.be/FjDyQ93QAao

FrontFocused 2025-01-02 02:29

Like can a battery fire in a Tesla be put out quickly or does it take 6500 gallons of water and 5 days? These deranged people can't make up their minds

FrontFocused 2025-01-02 02:31

It does, but you're just looking for it to be the Tesla and not using common sense.

How does it feel to be so dumb that you made that prediction when it was so obvious it wasn't the cause?

[deleted] 2025-01-02 02:36

Uhh. Like Wednesday? Idk. Just saw the image and the Sheriffs response so figured it made sense.

Arayder 2025-01-02 02:53

Most people I’ve seen have already stated and figured out for themselves that it didn’t go off like a traditional battery would. A lot of people just went straight to terrorism though.

Americas future is a future in which technology produced by Elon Musk protects Americans from harm due to innovative design. I can live with that.

Ford F150 is the most popular vehicle in America. Tesla Cyber truck is the most controversial vehicle in America. Makes perfect sense why one was mentioned and the other not. It's not hard to understand.

whereami1928 2025-01-02 03:33

F150 Lightning on the other hand, is quite a bit rarer.

SwissPatriotRG 2025-01-02 03:46

The Tesla (if it's anything like my model 3) would have slammed on the brakes if it was about to hit a person. This happened to me in a parking lot, I was pulling into a space and there was someone loading groceries in the trunk of the car in the adjoining space and the car basically locked up the wheels because it thought I was going to hit them. It seems like they got dragged some time ago for failing the pedestrian crosswalk test somewhere and running someone over somewhere else and they compensated by making the system way too sensitive. Whether or not that tech is mature it seems like it should be standard issue in cars for this very reason.

dantodd 2025-01-02 03:50

I had one friend who suggested that the Lightning was chosen due to its weight and thought that maybe the terrorist believed he could do more damage with a heavier truck.

AddressSpiritual9574 2025-01-02 03:54

Had some cyclist on a bike almost cut into traffic but pulled back last second and my Model 3 slammed on its brakes. I don’t think there’s any way to turn it off either.

BladeBronson 2025-01-02 04:05

If it were just a truck in front of a hotel, the names of both likely wouldn’t be mentioned in the headline. But the Cybertruck is new and interesting and Elon is famously rich and outspoken and is besties with the president elect whose name is on the hotel. There’s nothing slanderous about pulling these details into the headline as it is more relevantly interesting than generic truck and generic hotel.

Box-o-bees 2025-01-02 04:10

If movies have taught me anything; this was just a distraction while a heist went down.

Damage to the battery cells or internal components.

xTheWiseOnex 2025-01-02 06:36

initial cause was not JUST the fireworks is what I'm saying. look at the picture, the fireworks aren't even ignited yet. I'm not saying it was the tesla(tesla battery). I know know it wasn't the fireworks just exploding all of a sudden ,picture proves this

xTheWiseOnex 2025-01-02 06:39

pics/video shows it was NOT the fireworks. not to say the battey exploded, but something ignited the fireworks

xTheWiseOnex 2025-01-02 06:41

several people are claiming bad storage of fireworks in a vehicle for the cause lol. as slyp stated, fireworks were not the cause of this explosion

xTheWiseOnex 2025-01-02 06:45

small car, small death

FrontFocused 2025-01-02 07:02

It had nothing to do with the batteries at all. There was fireworks and gasoline in the trunk. But again, this was already confirmed when you made your post. But also, the fireworks were packed into tubes. You can see what happens when you hold fireworks in an enclosed area. It's basically just a small TNT explosion.

Cryptobench 2025-01-02 07:03

It’s for the truck bed on the outside. Do you want a manual door opener that’s freely accessible for anyone to get into to your car? The manual door opener is right next to the electronic door opener on the inside and just requires you to move your hands 10 centimeters

RealUlli 2025-01-02 07:32

Have you seen how a cell igniting after being pictured looks? Compare it to the video of this explosion - battery cells don't fly away sparkling.

EVMad 2025-01-02 08:26

I've seen pictures of the truck bed now and yes, there were cans of gasoline, looked like sticks of explosive too. Interesting that with the amount of explosives the truck body survived so well. I'm guessing the intention was to blow it to pieces with shrapnel going in all directions like a typical car bomb.

rainer_d 2025-01-02 12:41

While the media has no problem identifying the vehicle in this case as a Cybertruck, there is almost no public mention of the fact that the vehicle used in the New Orleans attack was also an EV, a F150 Lightning. But that doesn’t fit the „Elon bad, CT bad“ narrative. It will be interesting to learn when and where the vehicles were rented.

iseeyouoverthehill 2025-01-02 12:43

Bruh…. How is an emergency release handle not a manual one??? I think hate clouds you from logically thinking. Get off reddit for like a week, it might help…

PassPuzzled 2025-01-02 12:44

I'm not saying that isn't true cuz that is what happened, But it's just hilarious you're trying to prove something about a cyber truck built by Elon, with a source from Twitter which is run by Elon. Not a very credible source.

alexdiezg 2025-01-02 13:11

I'm late for this because I already found brainrot comments all over the internet Tesla bad, Cybertruck bad etc because of the explosion.

downtuning 2025-01-02 14:07

Based on Elon's reports and photos of the aftermath, the car was largely intact. Just seemed to blow upwards out the cargo area.

KruncH 2025-01-02 14:13

You must feel pretty dumb.

elchapodon 2025-01-02 14:14

Never take a troll 🧌 serious sir

FutureAZA 2025-01-02 15:14

Ah, so it wouldn't. Got it. The gap between the battery (which never caught fire,) and the bed of the truck is significant. The truck would have had to be visibly burning for quite some time before that could happen.

FutureAZA 2025-01-02 15:15

And it wasn't on fire before the explosion. It didn't even burn AFTER the explosion.

PassPuzzled 2025-01-02 16:10

Not having 1 person own everything you use would be rational imo but

[deleted] 2025-01-02 16:15

I'm not saying the battery caught fire in this case. You asked a general question. There's no need to be ridiculous.

iDerp69 2025-01-02 19:46

And they were correct.

FutureAZA 2025-01-02 21:23

It's not ridiculous. The battery near the bed of the truck the same way a gas tank is. If I asked how a gas tank would set cargo in the bed on fire, I think it would be clear I was seeking an answer other than "the entire truck is engulfed in flames."

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-02 21:25

No. Just, no. I'm guessing all your other predictions are anti-Tesla, too.

patprint 2025-01-03 01:38

That's literally my fucking point. EV explosions do not look like fireworks. The Cybertruck explosion does. I'm not implying it's some kind of deception or catastrophic vehicle failure. It's ridiculous that people in these comments can't understand that. I was responding to a comment that specifically said that no battery explodes into smaller pieces which then explode. Again, that's demonstrably false, despite the fact that no modern EV battery should ever fail in such a manner. If that distinction doesn't matter to you, why participate in a discussion about the safety and reliability of EV batteries?

patprint 2025-01-03 01:52

Yes, I've seen the damn video. I don't know whether it's a reading comprehension issue or what, but I've never said that the Cybertruck incident was anything other than a fireworks explosion and people seem to be reacting to my comment like it's some sort of conspiracy endorsement. I responded to a comment that said that no battery is capable of disintegrating in a manner that results in smaller exploding components, and that's simply and importantly false. No modern EV battery should do that, even in the case of catastrophic failure, but that doesn't affect the truth of the comment I was responding to.

SanguiniusSons 2025-01-03 04:47

Who?

[deleted] 2025-01-03 04:54

I don’t think the guy was interested in getting his deposit back … or anything at all following the bombing.

[deleted] 2025-01-06 17:26

The guy shot himself which I’m pretty sure set of the fireworks. The dude was just on a suicide mission.

LordFUHard 2025-01-06 17:35

Oh so he had the fireworks inside his skull?

[deleted] 2025-01-06 17:40

No, but I’m guessing the bullet hit him went through his head then hit the fireworks, which caused them to explode.

LordFUHard 2025-01-06 17:46

Oh so he had such a hard skull that the bullet made a 90 degree turn passed through three layers of metal and hard af casings to get into the explosive content. Interesting.
