My understanding is that the part outside the rim is painted onto the tyre. So how would they replicate this in production? The paint would come off very easily if they were to paint the tyres right?
I don't think this is going to production any time soon
Any controls inside?
Never seen whitewall tires before?
I like it too, but i like the cybertruck, so my taste is terrible and I can't be trusted.
Dude lemme check the Cyber cab Posting Calendar real quick... yep, you're good for tomorrow! Just make sure to get that same angle everyone else uses. We've got a pretty packed Cyber cab posting schedule this week!
As someone with whitewalls on a classic car, I can dig it.
The curb rash potential here is diabolical
Doubtful they're expecting any
I think it would look better without it. But I also was never a fan of the cybertruck hubcaps either.
Why are people so afraid to have an opinion? “I like it for some reason” uh hmm I wonder if it’s because a team of professional designers agonized over the design for years? Could that be the “some reason” you like the thing they spent countless hours designing?
Is he being fed the same drugs as Kanye because his delusional design sense is eerily similar.
I have a car, I don’t care about a cab. #GIVE ME THE ROBOT
It’s hard to imagine a worse design for a taxi. Maybe a motorcycle.
The hard part isn’t the hardware. It’s the software.
This looks pretty nice. Hopefully some of the design cues carry over into the next gen on production tesla vehicles.
agreed, that's a pretty bold assumption to think this is anything but last minute fundraising
Is this based on the upcoming model 2?
It doesn’t get curb rash if it never drives
I mean, at least this one you don’t need to actually own. I wouldn’t mind seeing it on the road or getting in it to get places, even if I wouldn’t buy one myself
Pessimism is celebrated too much in this sub. No room for positive conversation.
I seriously think this entire cyber cab thing is just a way to promote FSD and increase car sales, at least for the time being. And it’s kind of a brilliant doubling down on what’s worked in the past.
The hubcaps are smaller than they look, they’ve painted half an inch of gold around the tire (for some reason).
It is the factory, “the machine that makes the machine”. Please tell all the non-Chinese EV automakers who are losing money for every EV they sell why hardware is not hard.
But this isn’t a car. Put a steering wheel, pedals in it, sell it for a profit; that’s difficult. Take this thing and let it safely drive people all over the hellscape of American roads without pedals, a steering wheel, or a driver; that’s several orders of magnitude more difficult.
to be fair they also made a brick with wheels for some reason, but this does look better

I don’t know. I like the model x way more
If there’s no steering wheel or pedals, how’d they get it into the store?
Gold?
Cream
Cool painted tires...

The party they painted gold should never touch the ground
They need to make a model of this with a steering wheel. This as a regular car would be totally bad asz
I’m waiting to see gold aero covers for a M3.
People said the same kind of thing about the cybertruck and my next door neighbor just picked one up.
The whole point is that you can’t sell it for 25k if you need to put a steering wheel etc in it.
I love it. Hope the Model Y Juniper takes some of these styling cues
Really jonesing for Tesla to put a steering wheel in them and start selling them to the public as a great quick little city runabout.
"Lets design a car nobody is allowed to drive or own and make it into a sleek two seat roadster!" It should look like a Prius V. It doesn't have to look good, drive fast or be fun to drive, just hold many people and luggage on a small footprint comfortably. Having it a bit taller off the ground would be great, helping older passengers get in. Imagine the cyber cab going to pick up families at the airport, or even just couples with large suitcases.
You say pessimism? Just to note, the Roadster was on display more than 6 years ago now https://www.yahoo.com/news/jaw-dropping-photos-tesla-next-gen-roadster-surface-192404432.html
I should’ve posted a pic a couple weeks ago when it was in Austin.
I would buy this car in a heartbeat if it came with a steering wheel. I've been waiting for an affordable EV coupe that had a lift back and this is exactly it but they're wasting it on a platform exclusively for self driving which will never happen! 😭
Looks stupid
This and the Cyber truck are laughably ugly and silly looking. So uncreative. A nerdy child from the 70’s idea of “the fuuuuutuuurrrrre”. 😂
I was thinking this too like how are these even maneuvering into oddly specific areas like a normal car would do?
Probably remote controlled
Your neighbor bought it which means no drugs were involved when designing it. I don’t see an issue with this logic!
Hey, if it looks cool n' makes ya happy, that's all that matters! Rock that stylish ride! 🚗
im betting you can drive this with a ps5 controller
You sure this isn’t the Jupiter refresh 2 door version? 😂
This one looks like it has full size hubcaps which probably don't work in real usage.
They built it. They can have it remote controlled with an Xbox controller if that's what they want. It's also not unlikely that there are removable steering wheel and pedals that they used to test the car.
It's a coupé, an unpractical form factor for a taxi but one of the best looking one for a car. It's a shame they don't release a driveable one. A small EV coupé like that might be fun to drive.
Yes you can. We make cars much cheaper than that with a steering wheel and pedals. The expensive part of Telsas are the batteries. Everything else exists on the cheapest cars.
Unfortunately they seem very much opposed to that idea in recent statements. It sucks because I'd like an EV but I want the ability for it to work offline and for me to drive it myself.
The red brown fox.
Yeah, you don’t make any money on the battery, you make money on a self driving car not having a steering wheel and LIDAR and ultrasonics and radar. That’s where the margin comes in. as an actual 2 seat commuter thats not autonomous, nobody wants that. Did anybody buy the Honda Cr-Z? people Don’t buy Nissan Versas and they have 5 seats and cost 20 grand.
OceanGate enters the chat
Wow.. Tesla makes plastic mock up.
I’ve been driving amongst 100’s of Waymos driving around downtown Austin for about two years. It’s already happened.
This has to be what came of the Tesla model 2. Some didn’t pan out so Elon said “Eff it. Let’s make it a two seater cab so no one will buy it.”
It's not on display, it just thought it was in the parking lot.
The difference between Waymo and Tesla's approach to self driving is about 80k of dedicated self-driving hardware. A dozen 5mp cameras will never be able enough for safe self-driving vehicles. Waymo uses Lidar, USS, multiple Radars, GPS tracking, and vision based detection for self driving while Tesla tries to get away with vision and GPS tracking only. Now I don't think a RoboTaxi isn't possible but a 30k RoboTaxi that's safe with vision only isn't possible and probably won't be for another 15 years.
They’re soooooo ugly😂
Put a steering wheel and pedals in there. With a decent range and at 30k$-ish that'd be a "shut up and take my money"-moment. I want a *smaller* car! (One that isn't just for city driving)
You have to admit, if this went past you, you would keep staring at it in awe. Whether you like it or not, it has a certain appeal to it. Whether intrigue or admiration, it stands out, and that's the Tesla ethos.
As an FSD user I would never. 😬
This cyber cab looks nice, I really want to buy one.
Anyone work at one of these places and know how they drove it in there? Was it pushed inside? Is it just the body?
