Same. Mine also extended It also tried to go thru a toll booth at 75 mph last night so...yea there's that
I decided to let mine try a roundabout with no cars in sight… it fucking scratched my rim on the curb as it pulled through the last part of the turn…
Did the same with mine on a 2 lane roundabout and it couldn't decide which lane, ended up splitting lanes on approach then picking inner to start but then swapping to outer lane halfway through(but not completely so back to splitting lanes). The car is so far from "full self driving". Can't even handle simple roundabouts
I didn't even turn it on this time around. Its so awful
Same. Caught me off guard this morning.
Mine tried to take a cloverleaf exit ramp at 72mph. Let’s just say I definitely took over smh.
Thank you Uncle Elon. I have used it for past few days and I see a big improvement (less nagging and fewer left lane hugging).
Likely using to collect more data to help improve FSD. I tried it again and I’m not impressed. It brakes way too early and hard at stop signs and launches me into orbit when it accelerates. I put it on chill mode and it makes no difference. I thought my wife was going to barf and she made me stop using it. I can’t see how this is going to transition into a “cyber taxi” anytime soon.
I wish! Mine won’t go over 50 on an open highway.
Yeah less left lane hugging but it rides the rumble strips to the right 🤣
I turned it on and it was significantly worst then the last time I had a free trial. It honestly made me want to sell my car and never buy a Tesla again.
Your Tesla: “C’monnnn this config is all-wheel drive for a reason!”
Same here. Even in Chill style on the highway it wants to go fast. I can’t stand how it launches from red lights and stop signs. Nice parlor trick but nothing will really replace driving the car for me.
The only thing I want from FSD is the ability to use turn signal to change lanes on highways
Just curious, how do you know it was going to go through the booth at 75 mph? If you disabled it and were able to brake in time before the booth, FSD could have done the same yet - it brakes soooo late for me.
Mine keeps wanting to rash the rims.
The braking is so aggressive. It makes me hate using it
I was like 100 ft from the booth when I cut it off. No inkling of slowing down lol
When I first got the trial in June, I was blown away how much better it was than the old one. But I've already turned it off on this free trial run. It is constantly trying to change lanes into the faster flow of traffic and just rides there, even though I'M the slower traffic.... Doesn't always recognize highway speed limit signs either, so it's stuck at 65mph in a 75 zone, really making me the slower traffic... I'm surprised they haven't fixed either of those in the last few months.
Oh I don't let it do toll booths
It's so odd, like the car has gentle regen brakes, and it knows how far it is to where it has to stop, you'd think it would be a simple calculation on when to apply the regen brakes, and how long. But no, it feels like it's using the mechanical brakes and it feathers it too so it's jerky as well.
Is it supposed to slow down for speed bumps?
Same here. After all this time, it's still garbage.
Looks like they need more data on FSD
I’ve shut it off, put back on Autosteer Beta and interestingly, turn signal lane change is still on. That’s best of all settings for me.
Yep I rode it round trip buffalo to pittsburgh the past few days and it was great, other than not adjusting speed for new speed limits and never going back into the right lane after passing someone.
It does that doesn't it? Full turn signal, not the small 3 blip one.
This right here - I enjoy the Autosteer Beta with traffic light and stop sign support with lane changes. My one request would be to not cap to the max speed so low on surface streets, perhaps I speed too much but certain areas are "known" to not really be 40mph, etc. Contrast that with the latest FSD which is not usable in my area in my '24 M3 - the car changes lanes and cuts people off right before red lights all the time. I then get to sit there for an entire cycle of the light looking like an asshole.
Not that I am aware but if so I would love to learn if it’s a setting needs to be changed
Yeah I have an on again off again FSD subscription but I mostly use the enhanced autopilot features. It does also do a better job on rural highways than pure autopilot did.
Where do you live? My hypothesis is that FSD is much better in areas that it has a lot of training data (California)..
It does this already. You need to do a full turn signal like the other guy said.
Mine came to a dead stop at a green light this morning. Tried using fed 3 times on the way to the airport, it didn’t stay in for more than 5 min before doing something dumb.
I've never seen FSD anticipate a speed limit change, if it drops from 65 to 30 say entering a town it does nothing until it gets right up to the sign and then it hits the brakes. Did that for me just this weekend. Our toll booths have 25mph signs right on the booths and it's shown no sign of slowing for those even when they're visible so I typically kind of right thumb it down to 45 or so as we're getting close and then just take over for the booths. (These booths no longer have people in them but they've never been removed)
I just got the trial last night. I had paid for a month of FSD for a long trip but had cancelled and it would have ended 11/1 and now it's 12/1. Which is nice.

I found a quick way to enable it, when in FSD, push the right stalk left/right to adjust FSD driving mode (Chill, normal, assertive). Once the little menu pops up in your screen you can tap the “minimal lane changes” button. A little faster than having to go into the autopilot setting every time
Should it? Yes. Does it? No.
I believe they're saying that the only feature that they want FROM FSD to enhanced autopilot is the ability to change lanes by just using the turn signal, as that's a feature on FSD and not EAP. Fully agree w them if that's what they mean
Anyone knows how to configure it to not go 50 mph in a 20 mph school zone? Also, it really likes to do 45 mph in 35 mph speed limits.
Ahh thanks!
Make sure you have use hov lane turned off. Even if you choose the option to minimize lane changes, it will try to find and Hov lane
I’m on the East Coast. It is very population dense and there are a lot of teslas in the area.
Got it too.
I really did not appreciate the opt-out process. I can’t use FSD because it frequently gets confused and drives off the road where I live. I was very shocked to find the cruise control behaved very unexpectedly one morning on my way to work. It was dangerous and unethical to enable this “feature” without a driver acknowledgement aka “opt-in” process.
Yeah there might be a lot of tesla in the area but how many tesla owners in your area actually use FSD regularly already? That’ll likely be the primary determining factor to how much training data they have on roads in your area…which is likely exactly why Tesla is offering free trials ahead of v13 FSD release later this year.
I love when FSD does 45 through a school zone with flashing lights warning people to slow down to 15mph lol
It still tries to put me in the carpool lane when I’m by myself. 😩
Mine tries to blow through school zones.
That’s what I meant. I don’t articulate that well enough
Still hesitating on yellow light transitions. Can’t be rapidly alternating between braking/accelaration when the light turns yellow. Just commit to beating the light or braking dammit.
It sucks, I always shut it off.
I shut mine off this morning but didn't try to change lanes in AP. Honestly, the only thing I really like about FSD is lane change. I would be thrilled if you could do that in AP.
there is a setting now for letting FSD decide what your max speed should be and ignore your +10 mph or whatever.. I turned it on and it was going 47 in a 40 this morning so it was much better.
Opposite. 20miles to go and for whatever reason always tries to take me out of carpool even though no one in front of me.
That’s not it. FSD won’t get anywhere near what I have set for the speed.
interesting.. even if you accelerate it? like you give it a bump on the accelerator to help it? I know it's not ideal just trying to see so I know how to handle it.
Yes, all it will do is slow back down
That's wild man.. I haven't had that issue yet. HW4 2023 m3
Mine wanted to run a red light 😄
It doesn't respect "minimal lane changes" - i cruise with that on all the time and it will make lane changes that actually make it more difficult to follow the route or change into the fast lane and drive slow - also, its in chill mode so why is it trying to change lanes all of the time - JUST CHILL OUT in CHILL mode
it will blow through them - also, be careful in school zones / crosswalks
For me it always respects the navigation setting to use HOV lanes or not. The only problem is toggling that setting requires way too many taps on the screen. Wish it would just use the interior camera to look and see how many people are in the car...
Mine did that, too. My car is not allowed to choose speed offsets anymore.
But he has a very special set of skills…
I, too, was advised of the extension. Sadly, I wish they'd push it a little farther out as we'll be driving long-distance for American Thanksgiving, and the cut-off is right before. Oh well, beggers and choosers and all that. My personal gripe with the current version is that we still don't have real-time or current traffic adjustments for construction. This could be an issue with the software or something else, but there are roads in my town that are closed to traffic but open to the local residents. Both the route planning and the FSD don't seem to care about that and will plot routes right through these zones and seemingly ignore the barriers as they approach. so I've had to intervene in those cases and manually route myself away from the zone. Bonus tip: If you are on a currently set path with navigation and you decide you need to make a left or right turn before a place where you KNOW there is a hazard. you can just hit the turn signal for left or right. In my case, last night, I pulled to a 4-way stop, and because of the turn signal, the car ignored the route and made a left, which then caused a re-calculation on the directions, and it followed what I would suggest was the correct route in this case.
Why didn’t you grab the wheel? Lol only a fool will let it ride out and hit the rim/tire. 😂
The dream?
Yea this is my main reason for not using it at all. It’s so annoying that it’ll change lanes despite the setting. I want to stay in the same lane.
You do realize that you can use the accelerator in FSD, don’t you?
Weird, one of my main gripes with FSD is it being so cautious and slow on roundabouts.
Yeah that's super weird. Must have some setting incorrect. Mine will go as fast as I set it. It's not even restricted to the +5mph on the streets like without fsd
I enjoy it. Does anyone else think they would be tempted to subscribe to it if it were $50/mo instead of $100? At $100/mo it is close to 1/4th of my lease payment, which seems ridiculous for a single feature that I don't actually need and in some situations specifically want to turn off. But at $50/mo, it's comparable to a cheap internet bill, which might just about be justifiable for me.
Exact same experience for me
[deleted]
Yeah, my tesla was in the shop until Wednesday, and used FSD and got an extension. Also used it yesterday and got another extension. There aren't many teslas where I live, so that might be why.
Yeah, I got a free month added to my subscription as well. I'm really loving being "chauffeured" around. It does very well most of the time. Too fast though when entering exit ramps.
Oddly enough I like this iteration of it so far. I have not noticed the multi-GB uploads after a drive, though.
FSD with this enabled is WAAAAY better. was impressed with how much better it kept with traffic. last year when I had FSD trial it scraped right rims on a right turn...this trial it managed that turn much better.
It would be nice if we saw all brand new posts here for everyone that has an FSD extension. I’d like to see that for every person.
Huh it slows down for me
Mine floors it to go 48 in a 20mph school zone (and then immediately backs down to 35 once it’s through)
It always hugs way too close to the curb in my opinion. On the freeway same thing it tries to ride on the outside edge of the lane. I’m annoyed with how often I accidentally just take control trying to keep it more center in the lane. All the damn pop ups asking what happened…
I'm happy with autosteer and tacc. auto lane change and auto park would be nice maybe like 10 bucks a month.
The new FSD is better, it doesn't nag you as much. I generally prefer auto steer (as long as it's free). I wouldn't pay money for either. My M3H is a really nice car though and lots of fun to drive.
Lmao. Almost gave you the privilege of paying the 3-month FSD trial in the form of a ticket fine
Glad to see it being extended, Tesla's trying to gather more data would be my guess.
Unpopular opinion: I prefer basic autopilot. The upgraded visuals with FSD are nice, but I like controlling my lane changes.
Yea. I think owners kinda know and we keep a close eye
It's a left lane camper!
imagine autopilot track mode. computer calculates the fastest possible line and sends it.
yea they need to start incorporating the stay right lane unless passing code
I just got my second free trial in 6 months. Not sure why. Used it to drive from Denver to mid Missouri last week. Couple minor gripes, but overall it did well in that relatively simple use case.
My wife and I felt like we were crazy. When we first got it, it was great and we used it all the time. Now every time I turn it on, I feel like it makes me look like an asshole to other drivers, cutting them off to change lanes for no reason, even though I have minimal lane changes turned on.
Same here, I had a trial of it in April, then again at the start of October and now it's through basically the end of November. I like using it despite its glitches, and glad to be part of the training dataset. Just keep that right foot near the brake at all times!
It does usually if the speed bumps are clearly marked. But not always.
It gets pretty agressive at getting you out of the left lane if you get passed on the right.
Mine was nearing a red light and still accelerating when already over the speed limit.
Yeah, it's wild how indecisive it can be. Doesn't really make sense for a computer.
12.5.4.1 is the worst FSD version in quite some time. Nearly unusable. Hopefully this one is at least acceptable for basic highway use again.
Tryna get moar data
I hope the trial is of a newer version. 12.5.4 is crap. Weird because it seemed decent at first.
I've tried to use it and it still sucks bad. My wife cringes everytime I turn it on.
Mine tried to turn left on a red light 😬
One think I noticed is it tends to center itself in the left lane and not hug the left side when a motorcycle goes by.
Yup.
My trial ended when I turned it off. Like standard AP better. Wish they gave us the lane change with the turn signal feature though. That’s cool.
I got that too
Mine is going up and down 441 all by itself. It even does roundabouts one right after another. Guys. you choose the speeds your fsd drives. In setting you can choose an exact speed or have it drive a certain amount above the speed limit. It wont speed unless you make it speed. It shows on the screen the local speed limit. You know this right?
exactly. 2nd tesla and never had issues like these folks. In tech we call these ID10T errors. Read the directions and set your speed.
[removed]
Because fsd is a better driver than these people that cant even figure out how to set their fsd speed limits. In tech its called an ID10T error
exactly. All this is in settings. has been for awhile. Everyone would rather blame the car than read a few sentences in the settings. Its amazing.
Maybe that is the case. I have mainly used it in florida and texas and back and forth between the 2. It does better than most humans on that highway
Its a setting that has been there since I got fsd 4 years ago
you can . Its a setting.
drove me from florida to texas and back 3 times in the last 3 years. Better than the humans on the road. j
oo...ok. yeah, it will slow down but it does make me nervous there. Oh, and it hates Cones
These folks didnt even read the few sentences on all the fsd settings. They definately didnt know that.
This explains why Tesla's are driving exceptionally bad right now. Fantastic.
The problem is Tesla has the speed limits wrong for many places. In my story above, the car felt the speed for the on -ramp was 65. It obviously wasn't. No setting I have access to would make it go 35 instead of 65 there. The speed limit mapping needs work.
Maybe you didn't or can't read, it was accelerating towards a red light. It would have stopped I'm sure, but I would have had to slam on the brakes. Can you explain when it is a good time to pass the speed limit and keep accelerating into a red light? I can't think of a good reason.
IT here, this is NOT a PICNIC error, the problem IS in the computer. I leave FSD to it's devices and I'm constantly under speed limit by 2-3mph. 45mph? How's 43 feel? Interstates seem to be better, but back arterial roads? Better be bumping the pressure pedal, otherwise you're the learner student doing 57 in the 60!
Yeah, I turned it on a few drives. Then I didn’t have a destination active and turned on cruise control. I was in the left lane and wanted to stay there since two miles down I was going to turn left. FSD immediately changed lanes. Annoying, so I went to turn off the lane changing setting. I was really annoyed that this setting had to be turned on every drive. I never don’t want it enabled. Then with that setting enabled I tried again. It immediately tried to change lanes again. I just turned it on and never turned it back on. Don’t really see an upside of FSD until it works like adaptive cruise control. It was a neat party trick but the amount of attention it takes to both keep FSD from crashing my car and keep it from automatically turning off because I didn’t move the wheel enough was substantially greater than just driving. I need to turn it on and have it just work. Until then I don’t even use it when it is free.
The adaptive cruise control is brilliant. It makes driving less stressful. None of that nonsense about poking you to see if you are still awake, it just works. That is the bar FSD needs to clear before I would even use it if it were free.
Would that make anything better? It needed to stay in its lane and nag me less. It accelerated at a good enough rate.
Dammit. I really want a way to end it earlier, not have it last longer. It screws up my normal autopilot/autosteer controls even when I disable everything FSD-related for the duration of the trial. Anybody find a way to opt out or fully disable the trial?
JSYK, once FSD reaches “unsupervised “ (Level 4), you will not be able to change speed settings. The max speed it will go is 2-3 MPH under the speed limit. This is because Tesla will be assuming liability at that point, and will not allow the vehicle to break laws.
how do you apply for the trial? Is it available in Europe?
Interesting. I did not know that. The regulators may make this a requirement.
Oh geez. that would definately be a problem. The only thing saving you in that situation is your foot on the brakes. I wish mine would slow down quicker on off ramps but it still does fine, im just very careful with it. It still hates cones
During the FSD trial, it forces even normal autopilot to do automatic lane changes instead of just relaxing the steering wheel limits and letting you change lanes yourself. There doesn't seem to be any way to disable this, but if you know of one I'd be super-grateful. Last trial, this change wouldn't go away until after the trial ended and things reverted to normal. Didn't matter if I disabled FSD, as long as the trial was running, signalling while using normal autopilot/autosteer does an automatic lane change instead of its normal behavior.
> Does anyone else think they would be tempted to subscribe to it if it were $50/mo instead of $100? Not even slightly. When Tesla decides it's actually done, as in "you can sleep in the car, and if there's an accident Tesla will take the liability for it" *and* the NHTSA or whoever declares it legal for no-driver use like that... that will be the point at which I'm willing to *start* testing it carefully under controlled conditions. FSD hasn't even made it to the starting line for me yet.
Haha yeah I don’t think you’re the market. And I’m confident we’ll both be 6 feet under by the time that happens
I always held down the indicator to make the car change lanes for me when using FSD. I have never had just ap so you know better than I do of that experience. It does sound annoying if it forces you to change your behavior everytime they do a free trial. Can you refuse the trial and keep your AP settings the way you like?
Unfortunately, no. You'll just get a popup one day that says "hooray! you get a free trial!" and for the next 30 days, your controls are screwed up.
That suuuuuucks.
I’ve seen strange speed behavior and often not the same thing twice, especially on county highways that go through towns. Sometimes it slows down early, sometimes it won’t slow at all (even though the display updates to the new speed sign), and sometimes it nails it just the way I would have. Probably has something to do with me putting it on the “automatic” speed offset. TBH I’m glad that option is going away but also they do need to make the speed determinations much better still.
My trial was extended to Nov 24, but my Tesla downgraded my software to the non FSD version on my 24 MYLR. Does anyone know how to get it to go back to the FSD version while my trial is still going?
I had the problem of it correctly reading signs but not adjusting in speed to match the new sign.
Yep.
Yep
Yeet
It won't read school zones at all currently.
Yea, it's in settings but the car won't listen! To be fair I have not tried it on this latest free trial (because it didn't work last time). I'll try it tomorrow and report back.
And to piggy back off of my comment, every time I disengage, i make the report. I bet there are at least 20 from me saying some version of "car wants to change/ride to/in fast/left lane for no reason". In my state it is illegal to just ride in that lane. Just fix the dam thing!
[deleted]
I was thinking about the Richmond/San Rafael bridge but yeah same deal. I guess they're going to rip all the booths out at some point but I don't know what year it's supposed to happen in.
Same here. The left lane is the passing lane. But uh..lots of old people around here camp that lane anyway. Let me know what happened with the trial..
[deleted]
Oddly enough we have the same thing on the Richmond. A truck hit the booths, caused a big fire, and they never re opened two lanes.
On the drive to work this morning the only issue was forcing it to the right lane after turning onto the highway. The 12 highway miles after was flawless. After work I forgot to turn it on, and it was ping-ponging around before I remembered that 'minimal lane changes' needed to be turned on again. It did well after that. In gonna keep trying it.
yeah, I have to do minimal lane change and I reduce the following distance and set it to Aggressive.
My FSD CANNOTTTT handle DFW tollways. Freaks out on ending lanes. Can't merge into an exit lane and have missed multiple exits resulting in extra tolls. Smfh.
This extension is a joke. No one that already tried it and didn't upgrade will not buy it now. It's just to get more time and data, which is the only way tesla tests anything.
This is so great, too bad I got three strikes (again) and I’ll miss it for a few more days now.
I just wish they brought back EAP as an option. I don't need it on city streets but auto lane merging and route following on highways is nicer than AP.
yep, boy I love chilling in the middle lane only to have the car move left as a vehicle approaches from behind at 80+ mph
it does not care about this setting lol
nahh bro. also have you tasted this pothole?
the speed cap kills it for me as I purposely take side roads on my commute to not have stressful driving
I let mine drive by these islands we have in the road for pedestrians and it literally ran over it and popped the tire.
