Not only that. It also qualifies for the “hummer credit” as a work truck and you can write off the entire amount of the car finances or purchased. Thats why you see so many business owners with them 🤷🏽♂️.

Latent demand at the $100k price point is gone. Now the $80k price point will have demand to match the current 15000 vehicles a quarter production. However, the plan is increased production, so price will need to come down rapidly as this 80k minimum price will not be able to drive more than 10000 vehicles per quarter of sales once the 80k latent demand is exhausted.

When people come to terms with the kind of looks they’re going to get when they get out of that Cybertruck, it’ll sell well.
I call BS on that. Model 3 and Y prices didn’t go up proportionately from the time when CT pricing was revealed. So inflation and any price increases for battery raw materials don’t explain it. They just announced wildly optimistic pricing in the hopes there was going to some big breakthrough and it didn’t pan out.

52,500 after tax credit is pretty close to 40k 5 years later and due to inflation.
The price of Model 3 LR AWD was $48k in early 2020 around the same time CT pricing was announced. Today same model is priced $47k. So despite inflation, Model 3 pricing went down but CT pricing went up. Inflation doesn’t pick and choose.
Not sure why people keep saying that, but it's wrong. They have perhaps run out of people wanting to pay 100-120k for the car and the required foundation series. That hardly accounts for everyone who pre-ordered, myself included.
They need to extent FSD transfer to the cybertruck and offer 1.99% APR Also why doesn’t the $7500 tax credit apply to the 79,990 version?
No one knows for sure why it doesn’t apply, Tesla won’t say. Possibly battery composition. Might change any day.

As much as I wanted a CT, I'm no longer in the market. I held onto my $100 reservation spot for...well I'm not sure what, but now that the truck is generally available without it, there's no reason for the reso. I just cancelled and took back my $100 deposit. I'll stick around and see how CT improves and evolves over the next few years.
If they were 40k like originally promised, Tesla would've sold their original reservation list. I'd buy one tomorrow for that or even 50k.
They also offered the $79k version to reservation holders (in North America) and are now taking direct orders for those without reservations. They still probably have a lot of reservations outside of the US and from those who reserved hoping for the promised $40-$50k truck who are waiting to see how low prices get. But considering the version they’re selling for $79k is the one that was originally supposed to be $49k I’m not sure how much farther those prices are going to drop.

Can confirm, took delivery my 2022 M3 LR RWD in that I put an order down for in 2019 and although they said the price was going to up (and it did for a hot second) it's still roughly the same price as when I ordered. My guess is they see the demand is high for the supply they have so it's pretty overpriced atm.

I still have my reservation from years ago, but doubt I'll ever pull the trigger. The specs aren't there. There are a lot of features I do like, but a lot of issues with the overall quality. I think they'll sell a lot more once leases start. That way people don't have to worry about major depreciation, which will likely happen.
True, but the Model 3 and Y have benefits af scale. The delivered millions of those, which means costs can be kept down. Like with the Model 3, which eventually could be delivered close to the promised price, I think the CT could get there too. Eventually.

I think the original pricing made it a ridiculous "steal" compared to other EVs (and even full size trucks) at the time. If CT were $50-60K for the AWD version today with 350 miles range promised, demand would be beyond insane.

ACH was the default option for refund. I didn’t check if there were other options.
FSD is not available right now for the Cybertruck. But Tesla should still allow transfers. There is no compelling reason why they allow the transfer on for all other vehicles but not the Cybertruck

I’m also in the same boat. I reserved on day one, but the lack of QC on the builds plus the severe lack of promised features/expected price has made me consider getting Rivian. I’ve owned 1 M3 and 2 MYs and I think Tesla is going through some growing pains and I hope there is a better future for the company.

Yes, and the specs continue to drop even to this very week! What was 340mi for core wheels is now inexplicably 325mi. And range extender dropped from 475 to 440ish. I get that epa estimates are just estimates, but they didn’t change the FS numbers, and it’s just gut punch after gut punch or dropping specs and lowered expectations. I think in 5 years time Tesla will have their 4680/dry cathode figured out and we might see a 400-500mi tri, and if so I’ll be back.
different tax credit, you are talking about the relaxed bonus depreciation rules, cybertruck because of weight and bed size qualify for 179 which is 100% and isn't on the phase out schedule

This is really a simple problem that you can solve today. How much is the Cybertruck worth to you? That's it. You can also think of it, would you rather have the Cybertruck now, or $10,000 in your pocket? But then where do you draw the line? What about $10,001 or $5,000? The price of owning a CT is always going to be trending down. You can wait another 6 months... or another 2 years... or buy used... Then it will be even more than $10,000 in your pocket. It should be pretty easy to draw the line just by thinking how much you're willing to pay to have the truck right now.

Batteries are made in Texas, so it's probably more to do with late paperwork. Tesla likely expected to keep the $100k+ price point until the end of the year.

I don’t know about that. I wait for official 3rd party safety ratings myself. These days there are a lot of huge trucks on the road and I want to maximize chances of being able to walk away from an accident.

I used to see multiple Cybertrucks per day, and now I'm not sure of the last time I saw one. I live in an area of Norther California where people do a lot of outdoor activities and they were everywhere. I think the first wave of people who bought these that wanted to pretend they liked camping etc. are now past that phase.

Check your state sales tax laws, for example, in Alabama you only pay tax on the balance after the trade is subtracted, it can make a huge difference.

Don't wrap it unless you really hate the fingerprints and SpaceX Starship-like stainless look. if you wrap it any damage to the wrap will be quite expensive fix. but any scratches or discoloration on the bare stainless is relatively cheap to fix. you just need to sand it with oribtal sander although it takes time. I already got some scratches on mine but I don't mind them because I will sand those panels before I sell it.

It qualified in 2023. Requirements are only [10% stricter in 2024](https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy1939). While it's possible they're able to source enough materials for Nevada production while falling a few percent short in Texas, it's pretty unlikely. There are countries from which critical minerals can be sourced, plus the US.

They have more than they know what to do with at the service center near me. Every time I drive by I see more and I think,"who's going to buy all those overpriced trapezoids? I reserved for 50k, and with the missed expectation 40k would be pushing it." As someone who works and needs a truck I'm not too keen on the side access of the bed either. I'm looking at 50k Ford lightnings when I can afford to ditch my ice vehicles.
I would never feel safe driving it. You could fit an elephant in the truck’s A-pillar blind spot.
CyberTruck also supports WPA3 as of 2024.32. 2022 Model X does not.
Maybe another month until Model Y Juniper is officially announced, or because it's gonna crash the website with how many people are going to start making orders they want to wait until January after Christmas / Holiday season. I want to tow with a CT but the range is garbage for that purpose. 400+ miles would have been good, 500 miles would have been amazing.
The lead cybertruck engineer said the battery pack is half full. Not sure if that means its half full because it needs space for air/etc or if it is because they can fit ~twice as much in there but chose not to do it. I am hopeful we see a 400+ range CT in the next year, if not I dont know what I will do... maybe get a GMC Sierra that has 440 mile range and just miss out on Tesla's awesome software package.
I signed up for the 500 mile one, if I'd even take 450 if the back seats were more comfortable
Based on every car manufacturer's EV track record, the new model prices tank once production exceeds demand. This happened with the Models S, Model X, Model 3, Model Y and all other EVs. Being the first to own gives you the prestige, waiting will save you some money. I say buy now and enjoy it if you have disposable income and don't know what else to do with your money.
Would be interesting to know what's their percentage on reservations to purchases. Considering most reservations were done when CT was priced at 39k. Population that can afford 39k car is much larger than one who can purchase 80k car. Of course the prices are now ridiculously high just to get the best margin from willing purchasers but curious on what that's doing to their demand long term after wealthy buyers with 100k to throw at meme. I highly expect prices to come down rather sooner than later if they keep pushing volumes up- but i suspect they are in no rush with the ramp as demand probably doesn't look as rosy with these prices.

My own take is a lot of people are reading too much into it. There was a lot of Twitter chatter following a Munro battery back teardown suggesting that the CT battery pack had enough room for another layer of cells (it actually likely doesn't, when you account for spacers/separators, cooling elements, etc.), and people started calling it "half-empty." The CT engineer quipped half-jokingly "I like to think it's half-full rather than half-empty." Anyone can take it however they want, but I didn't see that as an admission or hint about future design, just a response to something that was going viral without much factual basis. I think you're right that it needs the extra space for pressurization/offgassing/structural stability, rather than it being designed natively for a 247kWh pack and Tesla deciding to halve it for launch.
Munro did a battery teardown video, however the response from the CT engineer (who is actually the Lead CT Engineer) is "I'd say it's half full", and definitely not the half full/half empty quote. None the less, were still at the same point, which is being half full doesnt necessarily mean you can just dump more battery to fill all that empty space (though from my understanding on M3/MY teardowns their ratio of space to battery seems low), and it seems like they *could* add more battery if they wanted.
If you're saying "they could add another layer of batteries if they increased the height of the existing pack by 1-2", I'm on board. If you're saying "they could add another layer of batteries to the existing pack because it already has enough space and was maybe even designed to be a double-decker from the outset," then I'm much more skeptical. Was there a full ID measurement made?
Once you Drive the cyber truck you won't want to drive your y any more. That is how good it drives.
Mine was slow . But I woke my model 3 through key savvy. Tesla offered my 18.9 I sold it for 22 the person paid 18 with the tax credit .
Nah. I'm sure it's an absolute blast to drive, but there's no way I would prefer it over my Y for daily. I'd just want it for weekend adventures in the mountains. Honestly, I'd prefer a M3P for daily driving, and the CT for my off-road adventurer(if I was staying all Tesla), but I'd rather have a R1T over the CT.
I had the same issue—the CC I used for the deposit was long since closed, and there was no option for refund besides refunding to the old CC. I don’t think I got refunded.
When I did cancel this week, Bank ACH was the option. You have to fill out the info. I'm seeing the refund in my bank today.
Go drive one. It can do both Trust me you will want to drive it all the time. It is a truck that drives like a car. It's game changing. And it won't make sense till you drive it. I have given 25 test drives and their brains were blown and shocked how good it is. I had one guy tell me after driving it. It could replace all three of his cars. He used his Benz Suv to haul stuff for staging houses in the back seat. With with the 90 degree door the CT can do that . Easier to get in then his truck and easier to load with the height. And faster than his Audi and with his solar he could drive for free. We had a model 3 and a model y . I sold my model 3 since it felt old after using steer by wire. And my wife wants one now after driving it.
