EU/waiting for Hungary factory/minus tariffs

Is anybody from the EU waiting for the Hungarian factory to start production? The current ETA is Q2 2026. Right now, BYD cars are slapped with a 27% tax and tariffs (10% import tax, 17% Chinese EV tariff). Is it fair to assume that the cars assembled in Hungary will see a -27% discount? Thoughts?

I have a feeling they will not decrease the prices with 27% though. They will probably just undercut the car that is the biggest competition and keep the rest for themself.

Forget it (for the forseeable future). In an interview Stella Li (Vice President of BYD) said: With the plant in Hungary, BYD models are intended to eventually come to Europe without China tariffs. Does that mean sinking final prices, for example, for the Dolphin Surf? "That is the goal in the long term," says Stella Li – with one caveat: **The ramp-up of the Hungarian factory costs an incredible amount of money, and the first vehicles produced in Hungary will therefore initially be more expensive for BYD than the models from China.** Only over time will they be able to lower the costs.
