I would’ve cried probably
Avoid I-95 at all costs in a Tesla. Take the turnpike whenever possible. That’s what I did when I picked my Plaid up in Miami Gardens 😂
It's hard to tell but did it also crack the roof glass? That one two punch would cost $5,000 to $6,000 to repair.
Damn man I hate to see it. I got rock chipped to the windshield from a dump truck this morning and immediately hit light speed to get TF away from that thing. Hope it gets taken care of quickly 🙏
I'd faint
Bummer dude. I hope it's just glass.
Signup for windshield coverage before the 30 day trial ends this is like a 2-3k windshield
Thanks goodness the top glass is still good!
Hard to avoid I-95 if you live in East Miami. But yeah, I totally agree.
You can get it paid for by whoever’s company it was. Kay says it’s the owner/operators job to ensure they have secure their load.
I would be crying!
Oh noooo
Hopefully on fsd lol
Dude, I felt terrible but nothing I could have done….
Actually there are some deep scratches on the roof glass. Getting changed too. Thank god I had the windshield insurance and the rest got covered by Tesla insurance. They actually did a good job
Florida has no fault free windshield replacement standard.
Not crack but deep scratches yes. It’s getting changed as well. All covered by insurance. 2 days turn around
Yup…
No better way 😂
What’s a rock chip have to do with a secure load?
That sucks
I did this and a rock hit my wife a month later!
So like because if you read Person commented it came off of a dump truck which means it’s usually a commercial vehicle. Which means they need to secure their load.
I doubt it came off of it. Probably got picked up from their tire.
Only u/fransure would know. 50/50
The tragedy of a new truck becoming an old truck.
Yo. Yeah I meant to the OP that I hope his gets taken care of quickly. Mine got hit with debris from that truck but it didn’t fully chip the windshield. But it had some rock chips spraying up around it - I assume it was something from the road but I didn’t stick around to find out.
I didn’t know wives were covered in the windshield protection! So much cheaper than health insurance.
It’s just a flesh wound
Tis a scratch.
Haha don’t say that 🤣 they’re changing it and will be like new again 😌🙏🏻
A deep one 🫣
I just recently discovered that it wasn’t that way everywhere when Tesla offered me the windshield coverage. I was like “why would anyone need that?”
did you get wife coverage before the 30 day annulment period ends? she sounds like a 200-300k wife
[removed]
It doesn’t make the truck any uglier, just roll with it.
Dash cam or it didn’t happen
What do you think happened lol? It was my first day driving the truck. Didn’t have the USB in yet. And I asked Tesla about the auto save and said that it’s not always triggered. So odd that the car didn’t even flinch while getting hit so hard
Epoxy it
That actually changed. Yes, it's free but it now can count against you when your time to renew comes up.
This post violates the rules of the TeslaLounge community.
Oof
Doesn’t your insurance cover windshields? I feel like it’s common but not universal
That doesn't look right
It’s fully covered under comprehensive by Florida law
The American Dream, such freedom LMAO. I am too european for this
If you're talking about resale value... DAY 1!
lol true but it’s still a claim on your history and affects you when shopping around. The Tesla insurance allows you to signup without windshield check. If you haven’t done so I’d get the insurance from Tesla. I live in Florida and had same thing happen on i95. Yes , it’s a claim
The roof is not a windshield. FWIW it counts as a claim now for sure
Insurance replaces windshields for free in the state of Florida. Check with them first >In Florida, the law **requires a windshield to be free of damage** as it's vital for the vehicle's structural integrity and driver visibility. Florida statute 627.7288 outlines that insurance companies are prohibited from charging a deductible for windshield repairs or replacements under a comprehensive coverage policy.
I also live in Florida and had a windshield claim last fall. Pretty sure it counts when you’re shopping and possibly for renewals (not sure on the latter, confident on former). I have the Tesla windshield insurance. Too much of a pain to get them to approve a non third party glass or shop. Over 5 years, the monthly cost is roughly less than the cost of a windshield replacement and labor. Well worth it to not have to fine a claim and have Tesla do it right.
That is true but State Farm was a nightmare to try and get them to cover Tesla glass and Tesla install. Went 3rd party and they totally ****ed up the install and sensors. I had Tesla redo it, mostly out of pocket (long story…) and immediately got the windshield plan. It pisses me off we even need this, as it’s what insurance is for, but I don’t trust them that this doesn’t count as a hidden “claim” when you are shopping around next time for new insurance or that they won’t count it against you at renewal. I’m not sure on either count, but it gives me peace of mind I suppose, knowing if it happens again, I don’t even have to deal with fighting and I can know it’s being done right at the dealership
I had Allstate, did it twice and both done by Tesla. Had no issue with reimbursement afterwards.
I’m jealous. State Farm flat out told me they wouldn’t approve OEM glass and if I chose to go to the Tesla dealership, labor above and beyond would be on me and, they would only give $600 for the windshield out of network. Pretty sure there’s some legally gray nonsense happening there, but the third-party shop was a nightmare
It’s been a few years, not sure if Allstate has tight up now on the policy. I had to call them in person back then to get the claim process going, they had no issue with send me the check once the receipt uploaded.
I’ll have to keep that in mind. I do know that Allstate, at least in Florida, last year, made the decision that they were no longer going to cover OEM glass unless it was proven, it was safety critical, which I would actually argue. It is given the amount of sensors in modern vehicles. In hindsight, I would have rather have paid a little bit extra for the glass and labor to have it done right the first time, but I’ll stick with the Tesla windshield insurance for now. It’s a piece of mind, knowing that if something does happen, it’ll be done by Tesla and won’t count against me from an insurance claim. Ridiculous, given that that’s what insurance is for, but in the state of Florida, it’s already astronomically high. Control what you can control right ha ha ha.
See, I don't know why people think that just because they have insurance covering the windshield, and they have their insurance replace a windshield, that it wouldn't count against them. It's a claim on the insurance. They're going to keep track of it. More than likely, when you shop around, it's going to show up to other insurers. Get the windshield protection plan. It's not worth the hassle with insurance claims.
Wow, thanks for the info. That would definitely change the game now. I would probably get the Tesla windshield insurance, not sure if I’ll be able to pass the windshield inspection, it’s been years since last replacement, there’s rock chips all over the places, thankfully no crack. I do recall I wasn’t able to change insurance after the windshield claims, although no fault, but other insurance company can see the claims and told me no.
Hahaha. Rookie mistake. Always make sure there’s a USB in there the moment you get into a Tesla.
Under Florida statute, the insurer must waive the deductible on windshield replacement and it does not cause premium increase. I had three windshield replacements in 3 years and USAA did not raise my monthly premiums. I did not shop around to other insurers because USAA can not be beat.
Yeah no lapse...
Tesla’s isn’t an insurance product, it’s a **protection plan**. There’s a distinct difference, which is why you’re correct as it’s waaaay better than filing an insurance claim regardless of any zero dollar deductible. Many states still include non-fault comprehensive claims when rating and underwriting (because the only time they won’t is if the state’s DOI prohibits it), which mine does. All my “free” windshield chips and replacements over the last 7 years have made it extremely difficult and costly for my insurance. I wish I could go back and pay out of pocket for all the claims I made because it’s fucking ridiculous that they’ve had the impact they’ve had, literally would say tenfold compared to paying out of pocket. I paid my Model X’s last windshield chip out of pocket. I’m unfortunately not eligible for the protection plan because it is still pretty obvious there was a previous chip that got filled. If it has to be replaced, I’m getting that protection plan same day.
they can frigging agree on universal windshield insurance but can't agree on universal health insurance lol
Lol, yeah see how that goes at renewal or switching. Believe me all the carriers can see how many times you have filed a glass claim and charge you higher rates.
Oof
Lol that's hilarious, hope it teaches you a lesson
How exactly is that hilarious? And what kind of lesson? Curious…. This was unavoidable. Do you suggest never taking the highway again?
If you have comprehensive insurance, windshields are free ($0 deductible) under Florida state statute
Usually it's the other way around with CTs and metal panels flying 😅😅
It depends on the state. In Florida it counts the same as a comprehensive claim. Meaning one claim isn’t likely to have an impact on your rates. Multiple claims could. For example in Arizona. Windshield claims CANT raise your rates. It’s the law.
No fault comprehensive claims shouldn’t be causing your insurance to skyrocket. Insurance rates are skyrocketing all on their own… everywhere.
