I did the same when my MYP was totalled. It got shipped to Ukraine where someone bought it. Got into my new Tesla one morning almost a year later and all of my settings were completely jacked up, the new owner had logged into all his music apps, Slavic music started blaring when I entered the vehicle, the seat started crushing me against the steering wheel, etc. It was a very weird morning.
Long story short, it's nice to get some closure to see where your car ended up, but I'd relenquish ownership and delete it from your app asap.

Basically every other car in Georgia is electric and many of them are Teslas. The US is so far behind you don't realize what demand EVs have. Also in places like Georgia and Armenia when there are problems, you fix them. In the states it's insurance and liability and tens of thousands of dollars of work. In Georgia some dude bangs on it with a hammer for $3 and it works. They love salvaged cars.

Could be worse. Son of wife's coworker got a gig to drive a purchased used Tesla cross country to the new owner. Thes seller (or someone) neglected to do the paperwork. He got 4 hours drive away, then it wouldn't supercharge. Phoned up, offered to give new credit card "but you're not the registered owner, we can't accept that." he needed to fax the bill of sale, new registration (but was driving on temporary license permit) etc. and they would get around to doing the paperwork. Plus release from the used car dealer, who at the time was not familiar with Tesla procedures, probably hadn't followed up with original owner, who at least had removed his credit card. No other chargers, especially in the more remote areas of the TransCanada Highway. In the end, they sent it by flatbed.

This is pretty cool that the cars can end up with a second life in a part of the world where they don’t mind repairing them. It makes me sad that this would probably never happen with my Model 3 because there’s not many countries in the world that use RHD cars.
Although it makes me wonder if there would be the willingness for people in areas of the world where repairs of cars from other countries to convert them to LHD. I know the firewall has the holes for both LHD and RHD. I have no idea if the software side of things is as easy as getting into some service level menu and changing the country the vehicle is in, or if there’s an option to select LHD or RHD.

No, the car is still linked to his account, just as you can have your wife make an account and you add your car to her's. So both can drive and control the car. When you get rid of your tesla, Either you or Tesla service center should have it removed from your account. It's really just a simple procedure. Basically like throwing your old car keys away once you junked it. (But the keys still have power over the car remotely)

While you are correct, I think if the infrastructure was more available for people then more people would want an EV. I don’t know anyone that enjoys going to a gas station and paying the currently high gas prices.
I’m willing to bet if charging stations were as convenient as gas stations are, then there would be more EVs.

Those things it's quite common in eastern Europe, middle asia and etc. Even germans buy US exported cars and repaired in eastern Europe. It's normal practice. For example in portals like autoplius.lt you can find very much US exported cars, even with vin codes provided. Just select filter: first registration country USA and you will see how massive is this thing. Those cars from US are great with low mileage. It's cheaper to buy, much easier to buy, because you can select of many different crashed/deffective cars. For example I already bought my 3rd car from NA. First was from Ontario, 2nd was from Montreal(Canada) and now again bought MSP from Torronto.
Simple answer why we are buying from US, not from Germany...
MSP 2022+ in Germany costs from 69k EUR!!!
Sonfor example, after importing you can build something similar for around 30-40k eur. There are plenty of repair shops which can switch those cars from American regions to European.
And fun part about buying car from NA is that you often get good car with service history, without strange scams. Buying in Germany is total black box, except if you buy 2-3years car from autohaus or car for abnormal price. So that's why people are doing this.
Also it's easy to check how much costs to import car from US. There are many platform in the internet where you can check price. For car basically it's 3k usd (shipping + US taxes) and ~30% import fees.

True but even the fastest charge is 6x slower than gas.
There are limits on how fast you can charge a battery.
Infrastructure isn’t the issue. The issue is:
1) USA is huge, most people take trips to the beach that are 4-500 miles. This is just inconvenient with an EV. My family owns Tesla and ICE. 90% of beach trips are ICE.
2) US gas is cheap. Unless you have home charging, which many don’t, charging an EV is about as expensive as gas
3) US loves bit cars. A model Y, or even an X is too small for many families. I just got a new Chevy Equinox and it is so much roomier
4) Insurance is much more expensive
The EV community assume that EV’s are a magic bullet, and that adoptions slow growth is “just an infrastructure problem”. It’s not. ICE has legit uses.
EV make a ton of sense in tiny countries like Georgia where it’s smaller than many US states.
TeeDotHerder
2026-03-11 16:59
All your arguments break down when you look at China. Also gigantic. Huge EV adoption. Also new BYD tech, means faster to fill with electricity than gas for same range coming out now.
McFoogles
2026-03-11 17:03
Because China heavily subsidizes EV. Labor is dirt cheap. And the type of consumer is completely different
If US wanted EV en masse, we would have them. Many consumers simply don’t want it.
I literally own both and there are many times I am happy I have an ICE
McFoogles
2026-03-11 17:10
Your argument is “consumers don’t know what they want, I know what they want better than they do”
GM, Ford, Stellantis lost billions thinking the same thing.
EV’s have been sitting at around 10% adoption since 2023. Stalling recently after subsidies disappeared
Your argument for china only further proves my point that many people don’t want it unless heavily subsidized

My argument is most Americans are ignorant and stupid and seriously have no clue what they actually need. Driving an EV in the rain can electrocute you! A hummer is more environmentally friendly than a Prius! EVs just explode into fireballs all the time and gas cars never do!
The deplorables are half the country and the ignorant are much more than even that. Have a PHEV is great for larger countries but when the almighty dollar and marketing rules everything you just get F550s to take the kids to school.

Again, if infrastructure was improved and more available like having a charging station next to beach parking, I would bet more people would take their EVs to the beach. Come back to your car and you just get rolling again. This is about availability of chargers. The US isn’t there yet thus is why it makes more sense to take you ICE vehicle if you don’t want to stop and charge.
Regarding your second point about US gas being cheap…in which world? Gas right now is over $3/gallon on average. Charging at home even on a standard 120v outlet is way cheaper than gas. Most energy companies charge .07-.11 cents per kWh. Depending on the amount of driving, that can easily be less than $40/month on the higher end; where an ICE vehicle can spend that at 1 trip to the gas station. Most EV owners that have the ability to install a 220/240v outlet will do it because it’s not hard to do and charge in off-peak hours. This completely blows your gas = energy idea out of the water.
3rd point, I agree with the Model Y and X can feel small. But seeing on average families aren’t bigger than 4 people, it can fit them without a problem. There are bigger EVs like the F150 lightning or Lucid EV trucks if people really wanted/needed more space.

And had someone done it to you, you’d be on here crying your eyes out asking for help. Bad karma for you.

Car has been bought at an auction and was imported by a fellow Armenian haha. Please remove the car from your app as they may want to link it to their account, it is much easier when the car is not linked compared to when you have to mail Tesla all kinds of info for them to do it for you.

I’m confused, is OP saying they’re leaving their old car on their profile and changing settings on the cars new owner? Why would you not just delete it ?

My wife's BIL has a business doing exactly this in Ukraine. The funny thing is, he had previously been really sarcastic about us having a Tesla - but a year later, both he and his wife were driving Teslas and he had already started the business importing scrapped Teslas from North America, fixing them up and selling them.
Because so many North American EVs were sold in Ukraine before the manufacturers had established an official presence, the country is supporting both North American and European charging standards.

Some years ago in Russia, some people had managed to create their own versions of the Tesla's servers and were using their own SIMS and software patches to make cars connect to their servers instead of the real servers. This allowed them to enable features, like Autopilot and to sell/use cars that had been stolen.

Wonderful that people accept the world will mess around with each other. Wonder if you can change languages as well???
