Is there a problem?

ClassicShip6765 | 2025-11-20 00:38 | 25 views

I have had my Seal Excellence for around 4 weeks, I’m not a high mileage user but the efficiency seems really off. Could there be a battery issue? Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

are you staying in someplace really cold and constantly driving uphill and flooring it? that seems really really high

nexflatline 2025-11-20 00:48

That efficiency does not seem out of the ordinary. If it's 20C, flat, and always below 90km/h, that is pretty bad. But in normal conditions, those numbers could boil down to driving style. By the way, pathologically bad efficiency is almost always due to issues with tires and suspension rather than battery. And normally bad efficiency (not due to any problem with the car) is usually due to speed, AC usage, and hard braking/acceleration.

Note that it’s saying past 50km but then showing the result in miles. 37.9 kWh/100 miles roughly equates to 23.6 kWh/100 km which seems very normal to me, specially if you live in a country that is not flat or if you like to feel the speed of your Seal :)

2021Noob 2025-11-20 02:41

The km taken as a sample size is irrelevant; it's still applying the kWh per 100 miles as its metric.

2021Noob 2025-11-20 02:41

For reference from my Seal Performance: 17.3 past 50km & 18 AEC.

My Seal AWD is at 16.5/100km cumulative which would be 26.5485/100 miles. I mostly drive it pretty gently and hardly any of that is at high speeds which is where the wind resistance really kills you, or low temperatures which burns power as long as you're in the car even if you're not going anywhere. I'd say you're on the high side but not wildly so to the point that I'd expect a battery issue. If you have a chance to do a steady 80 km/h on a reasonably flat road for a while then give that a try and see what you get. One thing it's worth checking is your tyre pressure: Apparently if it's too low it can really hit your efficiency, and it drops with temperature so it may well be too low. It should tell you on the app.

I saw something similiar. i dont drive much just short trips in the city and it looks like 25-30kw/h. When i did a road trip i went down all the way to 15kw/h per 50. the more you glide the better.

Iain365 2025-11-20 06:39

Amd what's that in miles?

Mines gone up to 40kwh/100miles. Unsure if you live in Scotland but I think the temperature is hammering it right now. I was getting as low as 24kwh/100 miles on my daily commute previously.

ClassicShip6765 2025-11-20 09:17

no not at all, the temperature has dropped here in the UK in the last week but before that it was ok (between 10 and 20 celcius).

ClassicShip6765 2025-11-20 09:21

Thanks, thats good to know, im in the West Midlands so the avg temp will be slightly higher than in Scotland.

Pale_Emergency_537 2025-11-20 09:22

Getting about the same in Ireland at the mo, similar weather I guess, in or around 0 to 1ºC. There's far too many variables you haven't stated to give you an meaningful answer though.

glitchmobbin 2025-11-20 10:24

Also in WMs, my Excellence had been high 20s up to last week (had it since mid October), but yesterday I was pushing high 30s for the same journey. A/C was definitely having an impact, showing 4/5kwh usage when stationary.

umair170 2025-11-20 12:01

I'm glad you posted this. Ive had mine for about 4 weeks and shows the same

ClassicShip6765 2025-11-20 12:19

ok, i suppose its good in a way, in that its normal, but its quite a bit lower than i expected. We'll have to wait until summer to get a balanced view.

umair170 2025-11-20 12:40

Yeah thats what I'm assuming. Also because I've been flooring it a little but heating takes quite alot in this weather

discoOfPooh 2025-11-20 16:52

37.9kwh/100 miles is approx 2.6m/kwh = range of 213 miles which seems like a hell hell of a drop and the weather isnt proper cold yet. My Merc is currently doing the same mileage which is only a 40 mile drop from the manufacturer WLTP . Could it be that the blade battery is effected by the cold worse than a normal ev battery?

Nervous-Ear-477 2025-11-20 20:43

Same for me in UK, it is just cold and driving in the city you use a lot of the heating to cover few miles

2021Noob 2025-11-20 22:39

50 Km x 0.6214 = 31.07 Miles

2021Noob 2025-11-20 22:41

Ah got it, thank you 👍

goldi8 2025-11-21 04:31

The system BYD uses is trash. I currently had 2x about 38kwh/100km With my tracking app. The BYD app still shows values of around 20-24kwh/100km

Substantial-Log3966 2025-11-21 19:09

There is no way you accelerate hard often not in a million years. Just say you drive in eco

ggeldenhuys 2025-11-22 09:04

Welcome to winter. ❄️ Things like preheating the interior, heated seats, higher temp for aircon, defrosting mirrors and windows etc. All suck up the efficiency. It's normal. I saw the same last winter, and then come summer, it improves massively.

Warm_Independent_458 2025-11-22 18:45

Aparantly LFP batteries that are on the seal loose about 40% efficiency in cold conditions so that might be something to know about Reduced capacity: Cold temperatures can temporarily reduce the battery's usable capacity and efficiency. Increased resistance: Low temperatures can increase internal resistance, requiring more energy to operate.

James__TR 2025-11-23 03:42

Are you comparing averages over the same distance? If not the comparison is completely meaningless.

goldi8 2025-11-25 01:45

Yes, and even the same route most of the time. Currently I'm using this APP for tracking: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.spritmonitor.smapp_mp Not sure if there are better ones though 🤔

Never drive in Eco always in Sport
