Any supercar owners here?

dhalls12 | 2026-03-03 22:33 | 6 views

Anyone here own any supercars? I’m a big car guy and have had my dream cars since I was a kid. Does owning a Tesla ruin the excitement? I’m looking at buying a MY and am demoing one right now— maybe it’s a stupid thing to be worried of, but they are so quick and have so much torque. I would love to buy an Audi r8, Nissan gtr, or 911 gt3 here soon but worry that after owning a Tesla they won’t be as impressive or fun to me. Lmk your thoughts/experience. Thanks!

Went from a c7 corvette to Tesla m3. I cried for a day and still miss the looks and handling, but every other aspect of the 3 is so much better…

DieSackgasse 2026-03-03 22:44

No it will not ruin them. Completely different league of cars.. maybe not a stock GTR but a R8 or a GT3

Depends on how the rest of your life looks. Sold my huracan after never driving it because fsd. But also don’t think i would get one again, cool car and all but ill probably pickup a 911 as the fun car in a few years when the kids are out of car seats Edit: I wouldn’t say I sold it b/c of Tesla, but the MY and fsd got way more use.

lotofry 2026-03-03 22:47

I had an Acura nsx and a Tesla model s p100d at the same time and it didn’t ruin the excitement. If all you care about is speed and acceleration then possibly it could but handling, sound, feel, looks, etc also factors in for most people. Currently I have a model 3, model y, a Porsche panamera turbo s, and an Audi q5. Even though the Porsche isn’t exactly a supercar, driving a Tesla doesn’t take away from the joy of the Porsche. I also don’t value the same things now as I did when I was younger so things change

JP_JMP 2026-03-03 22:48

Car guy myself, and if you get the MY your definition of a supercar will change. The only thing that irritates me driving now that I have a MY is every gasoline car on the road is slow, no matter how many hp it has. That said, if you want those cars b/c they are “fast” youprobably will ruin your excitement. If you want the because they’re fancy and grab attention your perception of them being a “super car” won’t change. I suspect it’s prob a % of both reasons why you want those cars…

KnightsSoccer82 2026-03-03 23:18

A C7 is not a supercar.

FluxChiller 2026-03-03 23:19

I have owned and had friends that owned high end sports cars, I have been in many both on the track and off. I refused Tesla for years until last week. I purchased a Y and it has ruined all traditional cars for me. I will never go back. I am in shock still, but I don't know how to feel about it, its strange, almost like an awakening, I feel like i should be more sad, but I am not.

KnightsSoccer82 2026-03-03 23:19

“Beat most supercars” - how? In a straight line to 60? Any modern supercar will beat a MSP on the track, especially if more than 1 lap is involved. I’m all for the plaid, but saying you can beat supercars with it is BS. Edit: downvote away, but I’m right. I own a plaid, it’s not a track car and would get washed by any real sports car…not even super car.

Lovevas 2026-03-03 23:30

I had a Porsche Boxster and Model Y for a short period of time, before I sold my Porsche. Didn't enjoy Porsche after I got Model Y, partially because of FSD. Maybe I just don't enjoy manual driving.

Super_consultant 2026-03-03 23:37

IMO, it’s better asking in those communities rather than this one. My neighborhood has plenty of folks with sports cars (think 718 GT4, assorted 911 trims) and supercars. Nearly all have a Tesla that they daily or use for when the whole family goes somewhere.  For most of them, the supercar is only for weekends. The 911 owners will sometimes commute to work in them. Those cars sometimes get replaced, but it’s always another ICE sports car. In other words, most don’t seem to give those up completely.  Tesla democratized fast cars. This sub gets a little weird and people think it makes supercar/hypercar owners embarrassed when a Model S Plaid or a simple Model Y LR beats them in a drag race. Those people can also buy a mass market Tesla lol

Fun-Sundae4060 2026-03-03 23:38

Are you sure? A track pack Plaid has enough raw horsepower and torque to set faster qualifying laps than literally ANY production supercar or hypercar on Laguna Seca already. It just won’t keep up on long runs when you hit the thermal limits. It only loses to purpose-built race and track cars on qualifying. If you want to do a long track day or go to the Nurburgring where it’ll overheat the batteries, then sure the supercars would beat it due to them not overheating.

KnightsSoccer82 2026-03-03 23:46

Can you link me to the production car record for Laguna Seca? If you are referencing the 1:26, that isn’t a stock production car…. Further….That is a singular track for 1 lap….that doesn’t mean much. Please link to me the production car lap for the Model S Plaid that wasn’t done in a modified car from unplugged performance, thanks! I see over 20 cars faster than a stock MSP at Laguna…FYI. So your claim is false.

em_drei_pilot 2026-03-03 23:48

I have a Model 3 Performance and a C8 Corvette, the Model 3 doesn't take any enjoyment away from driving the Corvette, and I'm still eyeing some variant of 911 so I can't imagine it would stop me from enjoying a 911 GT3. There is more to enjoying a car than straight line acceleration.

Fun-Sundae4060 2026-03-03 23:54

Was the 1:26.7 from Unplugged? It come up under the stock records for Laguna. Next fastest YouTube video was a 1:30.3 from 5 years ago, putting it right behind a McLaren P1 with a 1:30.1 https://youtu.be/ZacjQyMLzoQ?si=9uQ7ANRWFvVhQUT

KnightsSoccer82 2026-03-03 23:56

It was uploaded 10 months ago with no information, so I don’t believe it’s real. There is zero mention of that time anywhere online A 1:30 wouldn’t even put it in the Top 20.

Fun-Sundae4060 2026-03-04 00:03

Out of the 20, you’re realistically only going to find GT3RS and the more common McLaren on the track that might be able to set a faster qualifying. Everything else is extremely rare and technically “production” cars.

KnightsSoccer82 2026-03-04 00:05

That’s changing the goalposts to fit your definition. You stated that it was faster than ANY production car, and that is simply not true. You were disproven, and are now changing your definition of a production car. These are all road legal cars, regardless of production volume. You even used a MODIFIED vehicle for your basis of argument. Stop changing the terms.

Fun-Sundae4060 2026-03-04 00:15

Okay fine, I won’t give you any room then for me to be nice and give you any amends…? Nowhere in the 1:26.70 time did it state it was modified. It was posted as a stock time? And it was not Unplugged’s car. You lose. Also not sure why you’re so salty.

Stormrider_762 2026-03-04 00:15

My fun car is a built and tuned C7. My daily is an EV. Different strengths and styles, it’s nice to have the 2 seat handling machine to change it up.

marmur99 2026-03-04 00:16

Maybe wait more than a week before you say “never”

KnightsSoccer82 2026-03-04 00:17

Once again, there is zero mention of the 1:26.70 ANYWHERE. No video, no news article, no links, nothing. It was uploaded with no proof. You’re telling me that a stock car beat the unplugged car, which had hundreds of headlines, and not a single mention of it anywhere? That’s your defending point? Cmon. Use your brain.

Stormrider_762 2026-03-04 00:18

I have a C7 Z51 Corvette that’s modded and tuned. Super fun and a totally different driving experience than a 4 door EV. I drive the Vette 2 days every week minimum and it’s definitely not ruined by driving an EV sedan - 2 different platforms. I went Model S to Audi E-Tron GT with MapEV tune, the Audi is faster off the line (and from a roll) and I can drive the family around, but I still look forward to driving the C7 for enjoyment.

wcked-husky 2026-03-04 00:25

It’s whatever. Have a Targa gts, Taycan 4s, i7x60, 26’ Model S, had an R1T quad, Macan S, and ix M60. I personally don’t care anymore maybe if I was younger like in my 20s and currently 31. After you try a lot of vehicles it’s just a point A to point B but in the safest and most comfortable way. Personally my issue is the maintenance since I daily the Model S and don’t have time to really drive the ice engine vehicles. Once you attain these vehicles things just become maybe you become slightly desensitized and also the fact I’m stuck in traffic all the time so you can’t really even enjoy it. I just use FSD majority of the time.

wcked-husky 2026-03-04 00:27

Totally agree. Never really have time to drive the other vehicles and I just use fsd since I’m always stuck in traffic.

FluxChiller 2026-03-04 01:57

I hear ya, its new and different, new toy. I think im feeling more that I wouldn't go back to gas powered. Give me an electric 911 :)

Revrider 2026-03-04 02:04

No supercars, but high performance car owner here, including a 1964 Sunbeam Tiger with a 450 hp stroker 347 and a Factory Five 427 Cobra. Fifth year of Tesla ownership. Short answer is no. Tesla is my daily. Others are for roaring fun.

Zeronova3 2026-03-04 02:14

Tesla is a super car. It will get quite a bit of them off the line if they aren’t locked in lol.

imacompnerd 2026-03-04 02:30

I own a few supercars as well as several Tesla’s, including the Model S Plaid. The plaid doesn’t ruin the supercars at all. The supercars are *way* more fun to drive. So, don’t worry about Tesla’s ruining the fun. They don’t. Tesla’s are still fun to drive, just in a completely different way.

Sad_Principle_2531 2026-03-04 02:34

The tesla drives like an RC car. Super reliable and the best daily ever but I still miss my sporty bmw. Also the tesla looks like regular traffic so if you’re into flashy, tesla will never replace that

just-here-for-food 2026-03-04 03:31

I have a model 3 performance now and have had a Y performance and a cyber truck. I got a 911 last year and recently a Ferrari. I obviously love Tesla but the sports cars are just different driving experiences. For me the opposite of your worries has happened. The teslas are faster acceleration 0-60 but not as fun at everything else. Driving a sports car is like wearing a perfectly fitting suit. It just feels so dang good, like part of your body. The sound, the rumble, the feel, every bit of it is engaging. I am never tempted to pick up my phone in the 911. I just am fully driving. Oh I know how to compare it. The Tesla is like a new, smooth roller coaster. The sports cars are like insane old wooden coasters. Each fun in their own right and if I’m going to a theme park I want to ride both. No it won’t ruin anything for you.

PossibleYam 2026-03-04 03:33

What on earth do you do that allows you to afford all those cars at 31? Did you win the lottery or something

0utstandingcitizen 2026-03-04 05:09

Supercars are built way better than teslas and are 100x more fun to drive. It's not just straight line speed lol

jerkerlurker 2026-03-04 10:57

My naturally aspirated V8 makes me feel alive My Tesla launches hard.  The V8 I'm in love with The Tesla is like my TV and entertainment appliance. I turn it off and forget about it. The V8 is fun and absolutely thrilling and visceral to drive ...the Tesla launches hard.

Perryfl 2026-03-04 12:34

now that i make really good money. i no longer want the things i use to. when i was younger i couldnt wait to get a rolex, a aston martin, etc. i have no desire for that stuff now. instead i have a nice golf membership, go on (too many) vacations (often paying for others to join).. i guess im lame now :(

dhalls12 2026-03-04 19:18

What do you have?

BossCatBrian 2026-03-05 08:30

Get a used S or S Plaid, instead of a new Y. But with the recent discontinuation of new S And X, the used prices supposedly went up, especially the cars with HW4 which is 2023+

BasicBelch 2026-03-05 20:47

Acceleration is a very small part of the equation of owning a sports car, let alone a supercar

Fragrant-Key5115 2026-03-05 23:56

Completely different experiences. The Tesla is fast in a straight line but that’s basically the whole trick. It does it the same way every single time, there’s no build, no drama, no involvement. It’s like a really impressive magic trick that stops being impressive after the tenth time. A GT3 at 9,000 rpm is a completely different thing. You’re managing the car, you’re feeling everything through the steering and the pedals, and the engine is screaming behind your head in a way that no electric motor will ever replicate. The R8 V10 is similar, that naturally aspirated mid-engine experience is something electric cars can’t touch regardless of how quick they are in a drag race. If anything, owning the Tesla first will make you appreciate an analogue supercar more, not less. You’ll have the “fast” box ticked already and you’ll realise that speed was never really the point. The involvement is. The GTR is slightly different because it’s more of a tech-heavy car itself (dual clutch, AWD, lots of electronic intervention) so it might feel closer to the Tesla experience than you’d expect. The GT3 or R8 would give you the biggest contrast. FWIW the collector market data backs this up too. Naturally aspirated, analogue supercars are appreciating faster than anything else right now precisely because people are realising the driving experience can’t be replicated. The 911 GT3 in particular holds its value incredibly well across every generation.
