Validation antenna/camera. Tesla uses them to double check the accuracy of what their FSD system sees.
its not. these photos get posted here all the time. its FSD related to check the accuracy of the system with the environment.
This is it. 😎
Alright, reset the timers, we got another one of these posts lol
Those Are Y and Cybertruck 😆
yes. yes they are.
Cool! Good to know. Thank you.

Tesla vision needs to be able to reliably predict the distance to any objects it sees with good accuracy while it is moving. The roof mounted devices are lidar which has its data paired with standard vehicle camera vision. LiDAR is very accurate for understanding distance to an object but normal Teslas do not have lidar. All the lidar and vision data from these vehicles is uploaded as training data into to the Tesla vision AI models. This validation data is why when you drive, or the FSD model drives your Tesla, your vehicle knows how far everything is away from your vehicle and what direction and how fast each item it sees is moving. The AI model is trained for vision but it knows based on what the camera sees how far away everything is because it is also trained with a small amount of lidar validation data matched to vision data. Tesla uses these vision validation vehicles regularly but they use them more frequently shortly before they start rolling out Robotaxi services in an area.
