Whats the point of a performance car if you already have a 911 and only going to use the car for FSD? Choose whichever does FSD better in my opinion.
Queasy-Bed545
2026-02-24 16:10
You should get the RWD Model 3 standard if you're just gonna use FSD. Either that or used. I understand HW3 FSD to be functionally good.

You already ordered the M3P though?

I would go with a model 3 or model y premium for commute. Ride is gonna be rougher on performance. Also the cyberugg is huge and more of a pain in all scenarios if you don’t need a big ass chunk of metal to haul stuff around.

If you already have a Porsche then I’d go with the truck. I have a RWD 3 and I love it, but had they had a base CT at the time I would have went with it. You can’t go wrong with either but if I;m correct the performance 3 is about the same price as the CT, in that case it would be CT for me, although I ld check the insurance rates before pulling the trigger.

Stepping down to the premium awd M3 is probably the best stress-free play without getting bored. It’s the same as the M3P without the suspension, staggered wheels. You don’t get track mode, the badging and the seats if that matters, but you also don’t spend more on insurance, tires and have a sporty/less comfortable ride. I would think you don’t want that for a commuter.

CT has way more tech features and is really efficient to be a commuter car with perks of a large vehicle. Easy. FSD makes driving CT very enjoyable but model 3 FSD is a little better. I’m in traffic using FSD in my CT right now. 😂

Take an extended test drive of both, only you will know the answer based on the test drives, it’s very subjective

I have an old 911. It’s different enough. The 911 is a great car and can be driven daily, but Model 3 Performance wraps it all up in a single package - fun to drive when there’s no traffic, relaxing when there is traffic and you enable FSD.
That said, if you only have two cars. Porsche and Cybertruck would cover a lot of bases that the other combination would not.

This has nothing to do with the CT, but have you spent any time driving a modern pickup? About 5 years ago I got this grand idea that I was going to buy a pickup. I bought a Dodge Ram. It was great vehicle, rode nice, had a powerful V8 Hemi, a decent interior, a lot of room, etc. The only problem....I fricking hated driving such a huge vehicle. It felt like I was driving a semi. It took up the whole lane, barely fit in my garage, and it was hard to park. I sold it after about 6 months. I currently have a Kia Telluride, which is as large as I ever want to go in the future.

If you already have a Porsche 911 then go with the truck. We have a 2018 model 3 and a Beast. The truck is quieter, smoother, roomier, easier to get in and out, and more utilitarian than the 3. Of course, a new 3 is going to be very different.

I needed a in-city commuter to drive on FSD 100% of the time. Did not need it to be fast so opted for a Rwd to spend the least to achieve the goal @ 0% for 60 months. Best decision ever made.
If the toss-up is between the two , cyber truck would be a better choice as it offers more versatility. Unique Spacious, a truck, emergency home power etc

Seems like it would make more sense to get a base or Premium Y or 3 instead.
You already have a fun performance car and FSD will be the same on any of them.

Yeah. It’s really annoying. Tesla needs to come up with way of making low cost options that make sense. No way to get the upgraded audio in M3 without going to AWD seems absurd.

Plus the base model CT is pretty basic. Also less towing and almost 500 pounds lower payload the next trim, which has all of the luxury features as well.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I’m gonna stick with the M3P. Yes I’ll be using FSD a fair amount but it’ll be nice to have the performance when I want to drive myself. Best of both worlds and I agree I don’t think I’d like handling the size of something big like the Cybertruck

If you’ve already got a 911 then go for the cyber truck. The 911 will scratch that spirited driving itch and the cyber truck will be a great daily driver that you can move shit around in and it’s still fast.

I've parked vehicles similar in size, and steering had nothing to do with the frustration. I will agree that the Model Y and 3 both have wide turning radius for their size, and I've heard that the CT has wonderful steering. I can also look in my parking garage and see the CT, along with other wide vehicles, struggle to get out of their vehicle because they have so little room. 80 inches not counting the mirrors is really f'ing wide.

When you exit the vehicle, in a parking lot/garage, do you not find that it's hard to open the doors wide enough to get out? I'm just telling you what I see. In your own garage, ok I'm sure it's fine

Nah, I actually had a Highland LR AWD but I ordered it at the lease company we use with Acceleration Boost. Somehow Tesla decided not to do acceleration boost when the Highland was just released. Bit of mailing back and forth with the lease company and I got them to agree they did not deliver what I had specced and I got a nearly free upgrade (yay tax write-offs) to a Performance.
