Not today mate...
Who here has dealt with ICE drivers getting upset at underestimating how quick a Seal Performance is?

Yeah, had my first today. I took off from the lights quickly enough just for lolz. Old mate was behind me in his V8...so it wasn't even a drag race and I wasn't even intending on showing him up. But he seemed to have taken exception to something being quicker than his car. He tailgates me for a few minutes (like that's supposed to make him feel better?). On a length of road, he backs off and takes a 'run up' (lol) and has a crack at over taking when there was zero need to. So I did what the Performance is good at doing and put my foot down. He had no answer, slowed and tucked back behind me...this time...keeping his distance.
I ran against a Tesla Juniper in my SL6. Now that guy was surprised! He got me in the long run, but short course I had him. Have you tried all the modes yet?
Yeah. When I taught old mate a lesson, I only had it in 'Normal'. In 'Sport' I imagine his overtake attempt would have looked even more ridiculous.
Its strange that a normal sedan can smash my stinger in a straight line, thats for sure. I dont resent it, though can understand people who have spent $$$$ on mods etc to have thier cars blown out of water by a normal-ish EV) Thats said, all this accelleration is excessive (though after some research, Im really keen to check out the 7GT when it gets to Aus and might even buy one once a lot of the buttons come back thanks to chinese rule changes)
I had a Maserati next to me at the lights, unsure what model, and he was showing off to the young woman in his passenger seat, revving, creeping forward, etc. I had my father in law and all his luggage heading to the airport. When the lights changed both cars launch, we pulled ahead and got away from him. There was another traffic light ahead of us that had just turned yellow so I slowed down and stopped ready for round 2. He dropped back and stopped a full car length short from the lights in order to, I can only assume, avoid eye contact🙂 This was in a Premium. I wanted to tell him to drag a Performance next time
Lol. Beautiful. 😂
I usually don’t race gas cars nowadays. I don’t bully the dinosaurs at their end of their era. Gas cars are like cute harmless lambs when I need to cut through their lane to get to where I need to.
I knew electric was working when one of the petrolhead mags did a "electric cars are too cheap be this fast (and somehow that's a problem)" article. It's not long now till people realise ice has been superseded.
Neither do I. I know I don't have the need to prove a point. It took me 6 months to do what I did yesterday 😂
I did it the first day and then got over it. Also don’t want to lose my license, too easy to suddenly be 40km/h over the speed limit.
The only people I've come across who seem keen to "have a go" are in Ranger Raptors etc.
Surprised he didn't try for a rolling start. Had one try that the second time, still dusted him at the lights 😂
I enjoy baiting P platers in their rice rockets. First set of lights, Eco mode, make them think they have a chance. Sport at the next lights 😁
Like old mate yesterday. Had to take a run up to build up speed. 🤣
Yeah I have that a bit which is odd that they think they can beat a Seal when a Shark is quicker than them.
The problem I have with all ICE guys is that before EVs came around, everyone kept talking about how much horsepower they had or their 0-100 time. But for some reason, after EVs, those things suddenly don't matter anymore😑
I have had plenty of tuin ins with green P platers and their over boosted XR6 turbos. My wife giggles and says sick em rex each time there is a chance to blow them away.
Apparently towing ability is their go-to argument now. 🤷
Depends on what speed your rolling start is at I suppose, and what you're racing. There are still plenty of ICE cars that will pull away at 100+ as we've only got 1 gear and even the Seal performance runs out of puff at higher speeds.
But then you came here to brag about it
Just be careful. Watch for those turning in front of you from the left intersection. They are not used to the speed of evs. Their muscle memory is based on ice cars. So they will likely be surprised by our speeds.
The real question is, how your father in law react? 😂
No matter how fast you think you are in your BYD, a tradie in a ranger is always going to pass you
what buttons are you speaking about? the 7GT sold in Europe that's coming to AUS has the buttons and pry out door handles for emergencies already.
[https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/china-to-mandate-physical-buttons-in-touchscreen-crackdown](https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/china-to-mandate-physical-buttons-in-touchscreen-crackdown) I fully expect this to affect models sold here - I dont know if the car already has them, as its not something covered in basic review usianlly.
Bikes lane splitting and then accelerating like they are driving miss daisy are another lot
I have no idea. He muttered something in Chinese that was probably derogatory about my driving. He likes to complain about everything. He doesn't like the Seal Premium because 'the seats are hard, not soft like a Rolls Royce' - he has no idea sports seats need to be hard to stop you moving too much under acceleration. I was celebrating taking him to the airport after his 3-month visit to be perfectly honest.
...with a trailer.
I recently pulled out in front of one those big American trucks, a Chevrolet maybe? I reached speed in a fraction of a second and was still two car lengths in front of him, but he obviously felt like I cut him off, so he raced up behind me and started beeping his horn and yelling at me out the window when I reached my next turn and he overtook me. Fine, whatever, carry on, big fella. But then, he took the next turn and came back to get ahead of me at the lights, pulled over into one of the side streets and *kept beeping and yelling at me* as I passed. It was psychotic behaviour. Big truck, very fragile ego.
For sure. Tap the ⬆️ to up vote. 👍
The other car stopped one car length back according to the OP, so they weren't going to get a huge run up. They'd also have to start moving before the green light, as otherwise they'd be a car length behind the OP from the get go. Yes at 100+ the advantage decreases.
We are all very impressed.
Yes, because it was difficult to get really fast cars so it was a challenge and fun. Now, stock and cheap EV's are quick and there is no challenge anymore - hence boring. Not too hard to understand?
welcome to motorcyclist life
I have a skill issue driving the Seal Premium. I don't dare to get baited into a race because I'll probably crash the car :(
Not a seal owner and this thread just popped up. Only thing I could say is that when you were cruising were u doing 100 on ur dash or actually 100 cause idk if the bye speedos are correct or not having never driven one. If they are like evry new car they are probably off. If you were doing 100 on ur dash which is under 100 actual speed and u accelerated when I tried to pass you I would be royally pissed at and would cut you off at the next chance I get cause your auto breaking feature will make u slam on the brakes. That being said the v8 was probably being a dick
I don’t have a Seal but I know better than to challenge a Seal Performance😂. I don’t think the Dynamic or Premium would be a challenge though.
It was on a short stretch of 2 lane road where the necessity to overtake was zero other. It was a combination of fragile ego and MGIF.
No, not stopped. He dropped back on a stretch of short 2-way road, ready for his run up, after his tailgating. I was doing around 55 when he wanted to do his MGIF overtake. He did his MGIF from around 3 to 4 car lengths back.
Ahhh, I've misunderstood.
mate the premium is faster than most anything on the road let alone the performance
the seals seats are soft as fuck lol
My story is the one where the other car stopped a full car length back. They also didn't floor it when that second light changed so I'm pretty sure they were just licking their wounds
Yeah but they're not 'old man sofa' soft like a rolls royce
And depreciation… lol
And the car being useless in 7 years because of the battery
And the depreciation without considering the cash saved on fuel and servicing would far outweigh any loss.
So you cut him off and relied on your speed (hopefully there wasn’t a malfunction?) and you’re proud of reckless driving. If someone did the same to you, you’d be raging hard.
The exact same thing happened to motorcycles. No tuning, no power mods. Buy a litre bike and bam fastest vehicle on the block
I am about to mod my litre bike. Hahaha. Got a new exhaust and gonna get it dyno tuned.
I tacked onto the back of a line of classic Porsches driving in the hills near my home. They all put the foot down and the guy last in line had my Sealion7 in his rear vision mirror all the way… a fun day, but these EVs are scary fast.
What’s this ‘higher speed’? My Sealion7 0-60 is sensational. But 60-120 is just as sensational.
Man half the comments read like fantasies where you think ICE drivers are scared shitless of your cars 😂 I love winding through the gears of my ICE - a modern classic 90’s Japanese turbo. It feels fast, sounds fast and I genuinely enjoy gear changes. My model 3 is faster in a straight line undoubtedly but the acceleration feels completely different. ICE drivers aren’t kicking their wounds, they genuinely enjoy their sports cars.
dude totally underestimated it... some drivers just don’t get how fast some cars are.
Yup sure have
