It’s not quite as seamless as the Tesla and obviously no sentry etc but does the main things
Remote unlocking via the app itself (tapping) or having a key in apple wallet that you tap on the side mirror but not perimeter detection without the actual key itself

It doesn't do proximity via the app or bluetooth you have to use the NFC in your phone to open the door via the driver mirror.
If you have the key fob on you, then you just press the button on the door handle when in promximity and it opens and turns on car.
One thing, for my Samsung this was actually better using NFC as it worked even when phone was flat, not sure if that's the case in my new Samsung but did it on the old one. Only happened once but was damn handy.
Otherwise the app is a lot better than it was so they are I.proving it, its not as good as Tesla one though. Would I get a Tesla just for the App vs my Seal....not a chance.

I have a BYD Seal for almost 2 years now and a Model Y for about 6 months, I must say Tesla is way ahead. The BYD app is missing a few things that Tesla has:
- Dashcam viewing/Sentry mode/Live Camera viewing in Tesla App
- Auto Walkaway lock/unlock using Tesla phone key (BYD requires u to remember to tap the NFC side mirror with ur phone)
- Tesla car location now also includes a proximity direction arrow that points where the car is when you view in the app, instead of just a map location. It quite literally rotates like a compass when you turn your phone and indicates the distance of the car how far away. This works well when you are parked underground and there’s no cellular data, or in multi-storey parkings, car GPS wont show in BYD App.
- BYD app don’t have open trunk or open frunk button. The trunk one is seemingly annoying as the China app has this feature.
Lastly, in malaysia, I’ve found the BYD app remote commands are quite slow and often times out and requires you to try again 30 seconds later. This can be quite annoying after using it for some time. If there is an ongoing command sent and for it got cut off due to weak signal, there is a timeout that you have to wait.
The NFC digital key on BYD is the saving grace as it does make sharing key to family members very conveniently like a Tesla. Just that you need an additional step to lock/unlock unlike Tesla. Based on your post, BYD sadly does not have the auto lock/unlock that you mentioned.
If seamless is what you want and a car with tech packed in it, Tesla is way ahead. BYD is great if you came from a petrol car which does not have any of these features.
Personally I’d pick Tesla because it also has features like driver profiles that sync across all Teslas shared to you, as I share my car with my family members. This is a major game changer for me when we alternate drivers, because Spotify, side mirrors, seats, etc all adjust with a single tap in a Tesla. BYD only has 2 memory seat profiles.

Driver profiles for the digital keys are included in the newest V2.1.1 OTA update which is rolled out since 25. January 2026.
So you will get this feature in the very near future :)

I find the BYD app quite lackluster - only able to do temperature controls on it really. I sideloaded Electro onto the car and it gave me useful stuff like using the cams as a built in dashcam/sentry etc but overall I think the BYD app experience is extremely minimal and could use a lot of work.

I cant seem to have two people logging into BYD app at once, but Tesla I can have as many as I want simultaneously

Yeah, you can't have two devices using the same credentials.
But you can add a second person as an Authorised account and it works fine that way.

The BYD app is improving, which is nice to see.
I'd love to be able to specify a fan speed for the AC when I turn it on remotely.
And also be able to turn on/off the seat heating and cooling.
**Edit:** The app updated. Now I can turn on/off seat heating and cooling, as well as steering wheel heating on/off. No fan speed control yet.

BYD app is functional not sure I’d change which car I wanted simply because of an app. These will continue to improve with OTA upgrades
