I took my car in for service the other day and the technicians said that I had two faulty valves that caused leaks. They replaced those and regassed my car and now the AC works fine in 40 degree weather as any other car.

Mine's been slow to heat or cool since day one. Hadn't noticed how bad it was until we started getting 30+ weather regularly this summer. Took it to an A/C shop, they said it's got about half the refrigerant charge it should have. Can't get in at BYD for weeks.
Might bite the bullet and just get it topped up properly myself if that's the response I'll get, but it's the new expensive gas, and it needs a huge amount compared to an ICE car A/C.

i read that running the ac on max fan wont cool as fast as say on setting 5. the seal does take some time to actually cool down.

I have read just about everything on the subject at this point to try and resolve. Recirculating vs fresh, fan speed 4, temp not set to lo, restarting the car.
I’ve gotten so far into the detail I’ve worked out that the active grill shutters are not operating, advised that last time and they did nothing to fix it. I actually think this is the underlying issue that is causing the problem. Lack of air flow especially once heat soaked and stationary which is why it never shows up as an issue when it’s time for them to test.

Silly question, but are you maxing out the fan speed and using "LO"? Try lowering the fan speed bit and see if that helps. I'll admit, the car kinda sucks at cooling the cabin temp down quickly after you jump in, but once it's cooled down, it's not too bad.

Fan speed was 4 and temp was 20. As soon as I got on the highway the A/C started working again so thinking an air flow issue.

How long after you turnded the car on, was this picture taken?
And just to make sure: You have the A/C in "comfort-mode" and not in "eco-mode"? (adjustable with the "gear-symbol" inside the AC-settigs menu

Around 30 minutes we had the car on. For a while I was just sitting in the car getting the readings. No matter how I long I ran the car for it would not get down below 33 cabin (taken from BYD app)
The car is in comfort mode.

So everything well set from your side and plenty of time.

Poor aircon is a BYD hallmark

Higher fan speed will always mean a higher cooling power for cooling the cabin. The vent air will feel colder with lower fan speeds though

Air from the vent should be 4-8C (when set to Low)
Did you give it some time to get going? it won't be instantly cool. But no more than 60-90 seconds max

It had been running for over 30 minutes. I had a few hours at the beach and had the car running most of the time.

Next time you have the issue make sure the temp is set to low (and not some temp like 20/21/22 etc..)
if the system is holding pressure (A/C is a simple system. Boyles law. Your fridge works the same way). and there's no leak / drop in refrigerant than I'd look at sensors in the cabin.
The car might think that internal cabin temp is already 22 and disabling the A/C to conserve energy.

Come tried at lo also. I don’t think it’s thinking the cabin temp issensor is the issue because power usage is through the roof. 3-4kwh usage while the A/C is running and it never drops.

go back to my point - Is the AC circuit holding pressure?
Take it to a dedicated Auto Electrician that works on AC. Ask (and pay for their time) them to review, check pressures etc..

That’s working perfectly for a electric car
