How's the Driver Assist Tech?

Paper__Thief | 2026-01-23 10:56 | 8 views

Hey all, I'm very seriously considering ordering a Seal Premium in the next week or so, how have current owners found the Line Keep, Adaptive Cruise and Auto High beam? I remember back in 2023/2024 they were not the best, and I don't think I got a great feel in the 30 minute test drive I did. Anything else a prospective buyer should know would be greatly appreciated! This would be both my first new car and first EV (Coming from a 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0I-S)

It’s good for highway driving when there’s clearly marked lines You’ll quickly learn not to push it beyond that

I'm getting that Vibe with anything that isn't Tesla lol.

adaptive cruise is fine, I use it every day. ICC is kinda useless, but thats pretty much always the case until you get into higher level self driving. I call it hamburger mode. Its good enough to hold the wheel while you stuff a burger in your face but thats about it. also the icon looks like someone eating a hamburger with 2 hands (its supposed to be a 2 spoke steering wheel) ELKA has its moments, mostly when it can't interpret the lane markings correctly. havent had any issues with auto lights. there was some occasional issues with emergency braking triggering at roundabouts when I got mine, but they have fixed that with software updates.

I see, it would be used when driving from Rocky to Brisbane. Normally the roads are half decently marked. If it can take some of the load off that's all I'm hoping for.

Not better than a Volvo, greater than an Opel.

Auto high beam is shit for everyone else on the road.

godlessarmy85 2026-01-23 19:23

The auto high beam is atrocious. I usually turn mine off, as it turns them on when there's clearly a car in front of me, or incoming in the opposite lane. I'd estimate it works perfect about 80% of the time, but smashing 20% of oncoming cars with your high beam is way too much.

Honestly I think that’s about right and in most respects Tesla FSD is still not finished product either I’ve driven Tesla with autopilot and it’s comparable to that I find the ACC meets my needs to take my hands off wheel briefly on long journeys etc and compared to my previous car which had similar but 10 year old tech it works excellent But it is just ACC don’t be expecting FSD

I have had audi a3 2014, it had better lane assist than byd.. its frustrating tbh

get_in_there_lewis 2026-01-23 22:17

My Hilux does this with its dumb version of lane assist also.

Grimy81 2026-01-24 03:08

I’d 2nd this persons opinion. Adaptive cruise control decent, auto high beam and more importantly lane assist /are terrible. We’ve got a ‘22 Tesla M3 and ‘24 Seal Premium for context. Do note the new Seal with ‘gods eye’ (their version of FSD but supposedly free) has no eta for Aus according to dealer as of last weekend.

Contrary to other comments I find ICC great most of the time in suburban driving, but I prefer to slow down a bit earlier so I often brake and then have to turn it back on. Lane keep is good but sticks closer to the middle than I like with how many people in my area drift across the line. On highway drives it's basically self driving, I love it

Yep - it's as good as the VW I replaced it with - but it isn't AI.

The existence of the updated seal (Gods Eye, Sealion 7 style interior) is the biggest reason I'm hesitant. If I could see the future and knew this car was 5 or so years away I would have put down a deposit already lol.

surprisingly good tbh feels like spot on in lane self driving on clearly market highways... but it is almost entirely pointless because you have to not just keep your hands on the wheel but give it small inputs or it has a winge about it and cuts it off. The subaru eye sight is probably one of the best adaptive cruises imo... better than mazda and the seal is close to the subaru but im comparing 2016 subaru with 2018 mazda and 2025 seal.... the byd auto high beams is very good - faster to react than mazdas so you don't feel like a dickhead but it isnt matrix led just or or off. the seal is really nice to drive and pretty fast so although it is very detached feeling with no steering linkage your going to want to drive it.

I put a deposit down, delivery due in May. Thanks for passing on the experience (A lot of factors in this decision, mainly knowing the Bruse Highway is normally good enough for this kind of lane tracing).

Sweet-Ad2579 2026-01-28 04:50

the seal is a nice car for long trips it is pretty comfy, power for overtaking and has a really good stereo.
