Is it because our cars are using different parts and processes? Or because we don’t hold companies to account? I notice plenty of USA recalls on vehicles that we don’t get recalls on (but should), because our laws aren’t tough enough.

Different parts and processes. Chinese domestic market cars are *very* different to what they export.
