Anyone heard any word on our AVAS being turned on?

So as far as I am aware all Seals have hardware for AVAS, but it was turned off in a software update because people hated the sound. With AVAS mandatory on all new EVs sold from November this year, has anyone heard any word about BYD turning this back on (perhaps with a new sound design?) Its not technically required on cars from before the law change, but I can see them applying it to all Seals equally.

My Seal is the most current software and I have my AVAS on. Look for the shortcut in the drop down menu - the button works counterintuitively. If it’s “selected” then Avas is turned off.

I physically unplugged mine after the very first Australian OTA made my car sound like a #$%\^ing ice cream truck at every red light. I never bothered to plug it back in and instead just drive at a sane speed in carparks.

yeah mine has never made the noise. if it starts doing it and i cant turn it off i am 100% unplugging

I don't think mine ever played a sound, and certainly doesn't now (V1.4 Software, delivered July 2025). There is no option turn it off, under the menu item for the AVAS it just has what looks like a button that says "Play Sound" but is not actually selectable or switchable.

There is a Toggle for "Standard" sounds or "Brand" sounds and I believe the Brand option gives the Ice-Cream Truck music. But mine only changes the internal sound affects like the indicators and speed alerts etc. No sounds coming from outside.

Even the 'standard' one was loony toons after the first OTA update, and the volume was quite loud. They fixed it in the next OTA after that but I had already unplugged my unit. In a more recent update (like past 6 months) they seem to have muted it entirely

I pretty much much guarantee you it plays a sound outside that you can’t hear. I thought mine was silent until a kid at the golf club stopped me and said ‘your car sounds like an ice cream van’

How did you do this?

I worked it out this afternoon, someone commented about the shortcuts when you swipe down. It's the engine simulator toggle which ironically has to be deselected for it to play. Now I can hear it....and will probably turn it back off...lol

See my comment above for when the actual Avas switch is. For some reason it’s not with the AVAS settings
