Friction brake noticeable grabbing at low speed braking
Hey guys, Recently took delivery of a 25 Premium, and has been fantastic other than a potential problem. During the transition from regenerative braking to friction braking at low speed braking (for eg 30-40kph and braking slowly over 10-15 metres, once it hits around 10-15kph, I notice a lurch or jerking sensation, and it feels like the friction brakes are grabbing hard for a split second before coming to a smooth stop. I appreciate that the transition will be generally noticeable in blended braking, but this feels off. At its worst, it feels almost like hitting a very small pot hole. I can't replicate this sensation when braking moderately hard + hard braking and the transition seems seamless. My customer service rep (who owns a seal+atto) was kind enough to drive my car today for 10 minutes and just like when you go to a dentist/doctor, he couldn't replicate the problem consistently when you need to, but he did feel one very obvious incident and noted it doesn't feel normal. He also felt some very small transitions but it was very minor. 700km on the odometer. Have tried standard / high regen , eco/normal driving modes and comfort vs sport braking assist with no significant difference. Possibly more noticeable on high regen. I have tried turning off all ADAS as well. The suggestion is to give it a bit more time and then contact the service centre if it doesn't get better or bring it up at the 5000km service. Has anyone experienced the same issue and/or have any ideas of the possible issue? Thanks! Update: Thanks to all for the comments and thoughts. Tried all the suggestions today including hard braking. No improvement. Will escalate it to the service department. Will provide another update once diagnosed and resolved Update 2: Two days prior to my service appointment, the intensity and frequency of the issue dropped substantially. Perhaps coincidental but the only thing that had changed was drier weather and I had washed my car for the first time including iron wheel cleaner which I sprayed on to the calipers/rotors. Nonetheless I brought it to servicing to get it checked it out. The foreman drove it around and struggled to replicate it other than a couple of events but it was a fraction of the intensity compared to what I have previously experienced. Everything physically looked okay, and the servicing department stated they brought out a brand new seal and was able to replicate the vibrations and knocking during the braking. It was suggested possibly the SEAL has softer control arm brushings as a feature of the car which makes the sensations more noticeable. Whilst I didn't get a definitive answer to why my vehicle was so harsh at the beginning, BYD Waverley Servicing and dealership was very helpful and accommodating in general which is refreshing given the stereotype of poor after care services with BYD I had read in my research. I will continue to monitor for changes. Thanks all
