Charging?

Depends how far you're driving each day. I'm about to hit 12 months with my Seal and I only use a regular home powerpoint. Sure it's slow, but the car is parked for plenty of time overnight etc. If I do any lengthy driving and I know the car won't be sitting idle for a while, I just stop at a public fast charger for a quick top up.

If you charge faster, you have less charging loss. So it makes sense to evaluate your options. (e.g. car consumes 300 Watts to "manage the charging process" each hour. So if you charge for 10 hours, you will "lose" 3kWh. I you charg twice as fast, you will be done in 5 hours and only lose 1,5kWh.

Yes and no. :) (at least not in Germany, as we get paid to feed electricity from our solar system into the grid) For me it is 8 Cents per kWh, and for that amount I really do not care how long it takes.

I'm picking up my Performance this week and I'm intending on just using the granny charger with public fast charger fills if needed. On an AGL EV plan, plugging in from 10p to 8a (which will be mostly EV 0.08kwh rates) will still be FAR cheaper than the $120 per week I pay to fill my V8. Even stopping at a Tesla Supercharger to top up, so my granny charger only needs to do minimal work, will be cheaper than my ICE.

I wouldn’t look to install anything if I was renting either. As mentioned, it depends on your usage but if your car is parked overnight and has access to a standard 10amp power socket, just use that with the supplied charger. You can use public chargers when you’re doing extra kms. I wouldn’t even bother with the Type 2 public chargers (which you normally need to byo cable for). Just use the CCS 2 chargers. Personally I only use my car on weekends or short drives after work. I schedule my charging to occur overnight at off-peak time and ive only had to charge at a public charger once in 3 months.

What state u in? Lucky to have extra 4hrs. Im assuming QLD or WA?

Vic. No, it's not an extra 4 hours. 10p to 12a would be off-peak rates. 12a to 6a would be EV rates. 6a to 8a would be off-peak. Even with those 4 off-peak hours, still works out much cheaper than fueling my V8.

Ahhhh. What they charging down there? I have a flat 36.94c and only 8c off peak. AGL in NSW. The supply charge has gone up too.

I'm renting and I bought the Depow charger that has a 15A plug but also comes with a 10A adapter, which charges a bit faster than the default charger at 10A. When I stop renting (hopefully sometime next year), I can get a 15A power point installed and then use the same charger. I drive about 80 km a day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, then I charge at home Wednesday night, then go again till the weekend when I charge again. 50% battery is about 17 hours for me.

2kw per hour through the granny charger. The car battery is only 80kw. 2kw x 10hrs = 20kw or 25% of the battery. So it puts in way more than I drive most days. And on weekends, if I don't go out, it can sit for more than 24hrs on charge.

See how you go on the trickle charger. If you need a bit more then the 15A option might be worth it if you can get it installed near the car. Keep in mind if you get kicked out of the rental in a year are you happy to still pay? I use a 15a at home, make sure the cable can reach, don’t use an extension and if the car is outdoors the actual charging box should be under cover, I needed to buy a new one as water got inside 😅
