Anyone replaced their badges with black badges?

crispy_gooner | 2025-05-08 00:50 | 3 views

Looking for an easier way than removing the BYD lettering and hoping an option exists where I can just stick a badge over the top of the current silver BYD? I have a black seal performance, looking to remove all the badges (Seal, AWD, 3.8s) and make the big BYD logo black, has anyone done this and how's it look?

the stick over ones look crap IMO. I removed my rear badges and did plastidip on the front. https://i.imgur.com/dJ0Jcyx.png

That looks great, what about just buying black replacement ones and sticking on instead? How did you reattach them after plastidip?

the front badge actually attaches from the rear and pokes through the bumper, so nobody makes a full replacement as far as I know. You don't remove it to plastidip it. thats kinda the point of using plastidip :D

sorry for the stupid qu but is Plastidip spray paint and if so, how did you accurately spray it on without getting some on the bonnet?

you don't the point of plastidip is it peels off. and when you peel it, it stops peeling at the badges. So you do this - https://i.imgur.com/g1mHt85.jpeg (you have to mask because the thin overspray won't peel.) Then you do this - https://i.imgur.com/D8sYnGa.jpeg And you end up with this - https://i.imgur.com/zDXWwSw.jpeg

legend thanks, I read it can peel and flake after a year or so?

SexyDraenei 2025-05-08 04:57

it doesn't last forever, but my car is over a year old at this point and it still looks fine. if it peels you can just redo it. use the good stuff (I used https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/plasti-dip-performix-plasti-dip-aerosol-gloss-black---311g/614782.html ) and put it on thick. I did 3 coats I think?

this is what it looks like after a year https://i.imgur.com/4ZnoYqh.png (yes my car needs a wash)

Do you peel the overspray in between coats?

SexyDraenei 2025-05-08 06:49

no, you are trying to build up the thickness so it peels easy.

HSV_23 2025-05-08 08:37

Thanks, and it definitely peels off the paint? But you do need to tape up a over spray area to make sure there's a good layer that does peel off?

crispy_gooner 2025-05-08 10:44

oh wow, near perfection still. Yeah I got a black seal too and they look great clean but look like complete shit dirty

SexyDraenei 2025-05-08 10:48

so many people said it would come off first wash. I have pressure washed it many times.

2niteshow 2025-05-08 12:36

Nope. It would darken my light behind it.

SexyDraenei 2025-05-23 02:09

well yeah. thats what happens when you remove them.

crispy_gooner 2025-05-23 02:09

Oh i thought you blacked out the back

crispy_gooner 2025-05-26 13:46

Tried plastidipping the rear and front badge, worked well on the rear, didnt realise the front on the 2025 is a metal badge, didnt stick
