Terrible AC

clare1122 | 2024-11-11 07:57 | 17 views

Is anyone else really struggling with the AC? I’m finding that it is taking 20+ minutes to cool the car down on even just a warm day with max AC on and seat ventilating. The air that blows out of the vents is barely cool and it’s pretty unbearable. But then other times on cooler days I can get quite cold with the AC on? I’m getting pretty nervous for summer… UPDATE I took it to a service centre and they agreed it has an issue but couldn’t work out what. Fortunately it improved after it was regassed

BYD Seal is sold in some very hot climates, places like Singapore and Thailand. They would not sell one if the AC is bad. I am assuming that the AC is on comfort setting. There are some reports that some cars need regassing. Otherwise take it to your loca service centre for checking.

I read on another post about changing the AC setting from economy to comfort. I’ve got a black seal in Qld and I changed the setting when I picked the car up and it’s been great.

Imperator-TFD 2024-11-11 08:17

You need to change the AC from Economy mode to Comfort mode.

Blue Seal in QLD and no such problems even after leaving in sun. As above check comfort air con setting and if it’s already set I’d be taking it to the service centre

I've got to run mine on 25 or it gets too cold on a 30 degree day

Natecfg 2024-11-11 08:49

I had that issue, I'm in rockhampton and regularly drive west for work so it get pretty hot up here. I changed the setting from economy to comfort and it instantly fixed the issue.

clare1122 2024-11-11 09:25

It’s already on comfort mode. I guess I’ll take it to a service centre.

cantdriveforshit444 2024-11-11 09:41

Yer mine is shit

cantdriveforshit444 2024-11-11 09:42

Where you doing that?

Weak-Mycologist-4511 2024-11-11 09:55

Yes! Mine is terrible also. I have taken to turning it on before heading to my car after work. Having a 5ish minute head start before I get to the car has helped. Didn’t know about the comfort mode thing though, will have to check that!

Some people found it needs regassing. Even if new.

Our Seal copes poorly even on 28c days let alone anything hotter than that. AC is on Comfort not Eco since day 1. Just tends to blow lukewarm air for quite a while - I could sit with it on Lo or Max AC for a whole drive and be comfortable. In every other car I’ve been in, both petrol and EV, it will reach a point of getting too cold and I’ll have to increase the AC temp.

Cools off real quick if I select "Cool" setting....

RTFM

If it’s been sitting in the sun, the best thing to do is use fresh air for the first 5 minutes and then change it to recirculated air. I was experiencing the same thing, the interior is so hot after sitting under the Australian sun, the ac seems to struggle cooling it down while recirculating the hot air of the car. I really noticed it cools down much faster changing it to outside air when I precool the car or first start it up.

clare1122 2024-11-11 11:53

I’ve tried this but even with like 10 minutes of pre cooling, and changing to fresh air it still takes over 20 minutes to cool down. It’s so frustrating.

El-Pintor- 2024-11-11 11:53

Hmm then I suspect it may need to be regassed.

SexyDraenei 2024-11-11 12:06

I picked mine up in April and I thought it was OK, but now we are getting some warm weather its feeling a bit lacking. Going to bring it up at my 1yr service.

French speaker here from a HOT caribbean island : I have a grey seal and my car is cold after less than 5 min, even if it was cooking in the sun for hours. I check my app before leaving work and it’s often from 43 Celsius degrees to 22 degrees when I come in. On a regular drive my fan is runing on the 1💨 and 23 degrees because It’s too cold after that. You really should go back to your repair shop because this car can blast some cold wind lol Honestly this is the best AC I ever had (my 3rd car).

1bnna2bnna3bnna 2024-11-11 12:41

I also use 'comfort' mode

beyiv65346 2024-11-11 16:00

Are you parking it under direct sunlight? I know it’s not a fix for the ac, but for passenger comfort I would recommend an effort to get a shade or a car cover. I’ve had to do that to keep my ac at a manageable temperature when I get into the car post lunch

Weak-Mycologist-4511 2024-11-12 00:48

How do you check the internal temp of the car? I can’t find that on mine? 🤔 The temp display on my app only shows what temp the air con is set to, not the actual temp in my car.

TryingMyBest_again 2024-11-12 00:52

It’s on the seat section, I accidentally found it one day and now that’s my way of checking (at the bottom). If there is a better way, feel free to let us know, anyone 😊 https://preview.redd.it/17f41nizbd0e1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c21433ff5d766ab881ee8f86eb67528711fc89c

Weak-Mycologist-4511 2024-11-12 03:49

Awesome thanks for this! I have not played around with the app all that much and didn’t even notice that 👌🏻

ThePronto8 2024-11-12 18:50

I just received a brand new seal and the AC seems fine? If anything it’s stronger than my last car (model 3).. probably needs to be checked

cantdriveforshit444 2024-11-14 02:06

Cheers cock head

Absolutely no Issues in 40 DegC in India! Although I have installed the removable roof shade as the glass gets really hot inside.

staunchsir 2024-12-06 04:42

Agreed, also, using the schedule timer through the app, to start 15mins before i finish work each day gives the A/C gas time to charge up, and then once driving, switch to fresh air in for the first 5 mins and then change to recirc. That is the winner for my Blk Perf.

staunchsir 2024-12-06 04:44

Do a deep dive with it, it is worth the time spent IMHO.

Puzzleheaded_Cat695 2024-12-26 04:30

Is saudi arabia it barely cool at summer even with 3M crystalline on all windows + sunroof + roof shade

peepyboy 2025-11-15 03:13

How did you go with this? I'm having the same issue. I took it in for service and let them know. They acknowledged that there's an issue and said it was a faulty O-ring and that they would contact BYD for warranty. I waited two weeks with radio silence and started calling them, They let me know they needed a certain picture of the O-ring so that BYD would accept the warranty. I took it back in for them to take the picture, waited four hours, and they came back and told me that a software update fixed the issue and it wasn't the O-ring after all. I didn't really have a chance to check it that day as the car was already cooled, but today, on a hot Australian summer day, I had the exact same issue. It took over 20 minutes to cool it down, so I'm thinking it has not been fixed or the air conditioning on these cars just sucks.
