Wing mirror covers?

evjoshua | 2024-11-02 21:37 | 4 views

I hate myself so much right now. Scuffed my wing mirror. Quick google shows there's a few options for wing mirror covers (quick cheap fix). Just wandering if any of your beautiful people have installed them, and recommend?

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing

I purchased mine from TOPBYD, gloss black for my white seal. Fitment was quite good. I added some more 3M tape to them just for a nice firm fit, but very simple to install and unless you comme up close you would think they are meant to be like that. I recommend.

Thanks for the recommendation, yeah I'll give them a go and post some pictures once installed. Worst case scenario I hate them and have to get the mirror replaced regardless

Im away right now so cant post a picture. The gloss black iant exactly the same as the gloss black on the car. Its more of a galaxy gloss black, so has a kind of glitter in it. As i said though, looks factory from a distance.

Again thanks for the tip. I'll spend some time thinking about the colour

I got replacement parts from Aliexpress. I broke my passenger wing mirror and ultimately decided on replacing the shell, rather than sticking a cover over it. I imagined the cover to stick out a little awkwardly, and it would bother me, despite being significantly cheaper. I had to replace 3 pieces (the painted upper shell, the black frame surrounding the mirror, and the black C shaped trim around the indicator light). Altogether it cost me about $130AUD. I was surprised that the shell was painted black, as I was anticipating receiving an unpainted piece of plastic. The seller had to prank call me on Whatsapp at 1:30AM so I would respond to their message, asking me what colour my car was. I usually don't check anything on Aliexpress and I just buy and expect to receive it after a week or two, so I was appreciative of the extra service from the seller to confirm the paint colour. To be fair, I don't recall the listing mentioning anything about paint or colours. Installation was harder than expected. Youtube videos of people disassembling wing mirrors on different cars made it look so easy. The BYD Seal was extra tight, and I even damaged the mirror trying to pull it out. It cracked/creased because it just wouldn't come out. It's slightly noticeable, but the mirror and electronics are still functional. A replacement would cost me $30AUD. Next time, I will use a suction cup to assist with pulling the mirror out. After removing all the broken pieces, reassembly of the mirror using the new pieces was slightly challenging, but simple. I just had to figure out the correct order for each piece, as they were held on mostly by plastic clips, then secured with screws (5-6 of them). Overall, it was a positive experience, as I expected the cost to be much higher than I paid. I am bummed out that I creased the glass, though. I haven't gone ahead with that yet, but it should be straight-forward and the easiest to install, especially since my old mirror is broken and I don't have to be gentle with it. An interesting note - the shell supplied to me was for the left mirror (passenger side in Australia), but it has the NFC embossing, and I figured it must be an international part. It doesn't work, obviously, since my passenger mirror doesn't have the electronics for NFC.

Thankyou shiny, that's some great feedback! Hopefully it helps others as well. I'll keep you all posted

Hi great feedback, do you have like an image on how it look like from the back of the mirror?

You're in luck. I took some photos when I fixed it. [https://photos.app.goo.gl/VtRQoVYgXhHezQ9b6](https://photos.app.goo.gl/VtRQoVYgXhHezQ9b6)

I'm honestly so happy you posted your experience on replacing the passenger side mirror and posted some photos… I have the same issue with my BYD Dolphin, and bought a replacement cap for the mirror from Aliexpress (±€30/$35). I've also bought a big suction cup with a handle in order to pull the mirror from its socket, but been dreading to get started ouf of fear to break the insides. Unfortunately the BYD dealer in Netherlands charges €680 and has been under orders of BYD to replace the entíre side mirror including the guts of the thing… it feels like such a ripoff that I did want to do it myself. I mean, if I break more I'll have to pay the €680 either way, so yeah… why not ;) But your explanation and photos definitely help, so thanks again! I'm going to get started on replacing mine soon as well 👍

Great to know my post helped! My repair took 3 times as long, because I was being so careful and precious with it, but I still ended up damaging my mirror piece anyway. So my advice when you start your repairs is to allocate at least twice as long as you think it should take if you're the type to be nervous and extra careful.
