Tips for winning the BYD Hackathon

msthegreat007 | 2024-09-08 13:46 | 2 views

So recently BYD a ev gaint has started to conduct a EV Innovateathon in our campus and I have registered for it and they have just put in generally "Focus: Any innovation you wish to bring to the EV industry." Guys I would like to have your help on to concentrate on which domain for the BYD hackathon since I believe you might know the market requirement of the company and which problem they are facing the most. Thanks in advance!

* API access to vehicle data * Unlock on walk up * Not having to enter PIN every time I want to lock/unlock or start AC from the bloody app! Make them do any of those and I’ll vote for you

These would be fantastic, but hardly innovation as already on the main competition. You'd want to try think of something no one else is doing, but is a real pain point. Wireless car charging, just don't stand between car and charger or get fried 😀

Maybe not so enticing for the vehicle owner, but something which innovates within the vehicle, grid and sustainability ecosystem would be live integration with grid performance and sustainability stats. For instance, if the car knew where it was located (which it does), then cross referenced to grid demand and renewable energy inputs, it would be possible to have the car either automatically commence charging or to stop charging to ensure BYD vehicles were making the most of the renewable energy inputs in the Australian grid. At the moment the grid demand, voltage and price varies considerably, essentially as there is an oversupply during the day and undersupply in the evening peaks. If the car has the necessary information, there is the potential, across the fleet, to incentivise a more profitable grid for renewable suppliers (including anyone with rooftop solar).

Proximity boot opening would be handy too

Not new but if the HUD could show directions from android auto, or even the dash screen showing the map and directions would be great. Other huds have this.

API to allow the car to handle payments/apps for charging, would be insane to not need an account for all things and instead just tap your debit card to the NFC point in your car (which is possible as phones now supporting tap to pay on apps like square via NFC)

Sorry to jump in months later, but i love this idea. If we use NFC to unlock etc, then the charger cable should be about to connect to the car and link into owners app profiles to initiate charging automatically.
