ChargeFox charging speed

The Seal can only take max 150kw, and the BMS slows the charging rate down if the battery gets too warm, or once it starts to get closer to 80%, before ramping down further. If the battery is already warm from driving I guess it won't take high rates of charge? I've only ever used an Evie 150kw three times, so my experiences are limited with high rate charging. I got around 147kw from ~30% till 67%, then the car stated slowing down for the battery health or something. That was on cold nights though.

Yeah I get that, but even starting at 30% or so it was still capping to about 80kW immediately 😟

How does it go on non Chargefox (if you've used them)?. That will indicate if it's their chargers not liking the Seal, or an issue with the car.

Hmm, not sure. Pretty much all of the fast chargers in regional SA are chargefox 😅 might have to try one in the city when we get back Would kinda suck if their chargers didn't like the Seal since they're the main option 😬

chargefox is just a payment provider, they don't actually operate chargers. I presume they are RAA or NRMA chargers? What brand of charger were they?

They were all RAA chargers

Not sure, could just see RAA all over them. Some were small, some were large, but they all capped at 80kW

just had a look on plugshare and looks like they are all Kempower. The big square ones are self contained, and the small thin ones have the power modules in a separate cabinet. This is your big guy. https://kempower.com/solution/kempower-station-charger/ - He can be specced for up to 200kW and shuffles that power between the two connectors in 25kW chunks. Your little guys are this unit. https://kempower.com/solution/kempower-satellite/ and backed up by this big fella https://kempower.com/solution/kempower-power-unit/ - they can have up to 200kW per cabinet and up to 3 cabinets, all connected to up to 8 charging heads on the satellite units. Again they dynamically share power in 25kW chunks. I have only used a Kempower charger once, and I was able to get over 140kW If you scan the QR code on the charger screen you can connect to the charger system and see whats happening, you may be able to see what the car is requesting vs what is being delivered and get some direction. Heres an offhand list of reasons why it wouldn't charge full rate. * Car battery too hot or cold * Charger overheating * Grid limitation * Charger fault * Vehicle fault

Ooh didn't know you could get that info, might need to try next time. Cheers! Probably a grid limitation or vehicle fault surely, given how many were having the issue. Even charged in Port Lincoln this morning after leaving the car idle overnight and it was still 80kW so must not be overheating, and on the road would rule out too cold

I encountered a dodgy Evie charger the other day that wouldn't go above 4kW (did the same thing to another guy who tried with a Model 3 as well). One next to it worked perfectly, got around 145kW (150kW rated)
