Occasional long range trips

Avalonnw | 2024-06-20 03:45 | 7 views

Hi All, I'm thinking about getting a Seal Premium. It will be mostly for commute but also for occasional long range driving (Adelaide-Melbourne and such). What is the current situation with public chargers? I know on Tesla maps it suggests Keith and Horsham as supercharger locations. Are those available for BYD owners or is there something else? I'm not too worried about local trips, but mostly the longer ones.

Horsham Superchargers are Tesla only. https://www.plugshare.com/location/351197 There is also an RACV site there (https://www.plugshare.com/location/208513) but its a notoriously unreliable first gen Tritium. It scheduled to be replaced with a kempower unit soon. Keith Superchargers are also Tesla only https://www.plugshare.com/location/130155 Keith has a NRMA site that is currently being upgraded or something, can't find any info about whats happening. Hopefully its a kempower upgrade? https://www.plugshare.com/location/208511 Also along that route you have Ballarat (several sites), Beaufort (2x 50kW Evie), Ararat (50kW Evie), Stawell (50kW Evie, also Tesla only SC) , Kaniva (50kW Evie), Bordertown (200kW Kempower with 3xCCS and 1xChademo) , Tailem Bend (Open Superchargers + 350kW Evie site that is currently broken) , Murray Bridge (2x350kW Tritiums run by RAA) , Mount Barker (another 200kW 4 plug Kempower system) and Adelaide Hills Shopping Center (2x150kW Evie) Chargers currently being built at Ararat (new NRMA site), Coonalpyn (RAA Kempower), Tailem Bend (Large RAA Site) So of all the routes, Melb-Adl is probably one of the best served with chargers.

Thanks. So, when they say that BYD is getting an update/upgrade to be able to charge from v3/v4 tesla charges, does that mean all of them or just selected chargers?

You are still restricted to ones that are open to non-teslas. The fix was to fix an incompatability with V3 chargers. Seals built from March 2024 have the fix.

Horsham also has 2 x 350kw chargefox and 1 x 50kw chargefox chargers. There are plenty of fast chargers along the way, nothing to be anxious about.

[ABRP - A Better Routeplanner](https://abetterrouteplanner.com/) (they have an app available) is supposed to be good for planning EV trips. I haven't had a need for it yet, but planning to do a weekend trip soon using it.

i found that its really bad at routing, I have to put in every town along the highway to get it to stop cutting across country down farm roads.

Oh... sounds like a gps I used about 20 years ago...

I played with it for a bit (the free version). Do you know how up to date they are with chargers statuses?

Get Plugshare app. It tells you which are Tesla only and which are working.
