Trouble getting insurance

TheGuru276 | 2024-06-10 07:02 | 5 views

For those that got their BYD as soon as they went on sale did anyone have trouble getting insurance quotes? I'm due to collect my Sea Lion 6 next week and I'm having trouble finding anyone that has it in their system to be able to give me a quote. Any recommendations on who I might try? (As a side note, I'm collecting it from the collection point at Eagle Farm in Brisbane and in what seems to be their usual unorganised mess they originally had me scheduled to collect it on Sunday. Good thing I know that they're only open Monday to Friday so got it rescheduled)

have you tried calling rather than doing it online?

I got Seal in December, and no issues getting insurance. Best offers I got was Budget Direct and Bingle.

I had a similar issue with the Seal and commbank, but other insurers worked. Ended up going with RACQ. Give them a call to check

Had no issues with my Seal, but that was last month. If you are trying to get quotes online it might not be in thier drop down yet, but calling them will give you an answer.

Called a 2nd one today, also uses Auto and General apparently and no they can't help me so will have to try providers that don't use A&G.

yeah, half the trouble is most insurers in Aus are owned or underwritten by the same company.

Interesting. I think Budget direct uses A&G as the underwriter and 2 other providers I've tried that are with A&G have said no that A&G haven't approved that vehicle yet.

OK looking into this a bit more... Suncorp/AAI: * Suncorp * AAMI * GIO * Bingle * Apia * Shannons * Terri Scheer * CIL * Vero * Essentials by AAI A&G * Budget Direct * Virgin * Qantas * ING * Ozicare * 1st for Women * Oceania Insurance IAG * RACV * NRMA * CGU * WFI * Rollin' * Coles * ANZ Open Insurance * Bupa * AHM * Polestar But I believe these are all underwritten by Hollard Hollard * Woolworths * Real Insurance * Commbank Allianz * Allianz * Westpac * COTA * St George QBE * QBE * Elders * Australia Post Independant * RAA (SA) * RAC (WA) * RACQ - Also does ALDI Insurance * YOUI - Parent company is OUTsurance. Note: This is specifically for car insurance, some of these retail providers use different underwriters for different types of insurance.

Thanks. Virgin and Oceania were the first ones I tried calling so got a no. Finally got one with NRMA but I've always found them a bit more expensive. Interestingly RACQ, my current insurer was a No. Nobody using Compare the Meerkat was able to offer me a quote. QBE was going to be my next shot.

I ended up going with Bingle, as they gave me better price and have used before and got great instant service from a claim. I definitely wasn't first to be getting Seal, but had insurance done Mid December so was pretty soon after first shipments.

Re pick up - we picked up our BYD on a Saturday afternoon at the collection place in Eagle Farm, not sure if it's open on a Sunday but it is open on a Saturday not just M-F
