Turning off/Disabling the Pedestrian Noise?

That_Car_Dude_Aus | 2024-05-02 22:10 | 1 views

So given that the [pedestrian safety noise isn't required to be fitted to cars made before November 1st, 2025](https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/new-rules-bringing-noisy-evs-and-hybrids-to-australian-roads) How do you turn it off?

Why? You planning something?

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-02 22:29

It's unnecessary crap, and if I remove it, it's something that I don't have to worry about possibly breaking and needing fixed. No feature = bo issues from that feature.

FootExcellent9994 2024-05-02 22:30

How fucked is your driving if you are continually setting off the "Pedestrian safety noise"?

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-02 22:32

Isn't it always on under 20kmh by default?

ShadowAvenger32 2024-05-02 22:45

Isn't the whole point so that pedestrians can hear your car when they're nearby but can't see you?

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-02 22:49

I think so, but it's just extra stuff that can break, and if it's not needed, then may as well take it out. If it was necessary, they'd have made it law sooner.

Cool, seen a few posts that it kept resetting to On when they got back in the car

Jolly-Accountant-722 2024-05-02 23:37

It also helps guide dogs btw.

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-02 23:50

Ok? That isn't part of my question though?

ShadowAvenger32 2024-05-03 00:43

And the reason they're making it a law at all doesn't bring up any concerns about what must have happened to make pedestrian noise *specifically* a mandatory feature?

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 00:44

Yeah but it's not a law provided I get it before November*next year* If it was actually important, it would be made law now, or already be law. At the moment it's just an unnecessary thing that could malfunction and serves no useful purpose.

ShadowAvenger32 2024-05-03 00:48

Sorry, I'm just confused why you'd want to remove something with no downside? Isn't the pedestrian noise kept seperate from any moving parts? Why exactly are you worried about it breaking?

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 00:55

>I'm just confused why you'd want to remove something with no downside? I've already said exactly why.

ShadowAvenger32 2024-05-03 01:29

All you've said is that it's "unnecessary" Think about it for a moment, for one thing the nature of a pedestrian noise device means that it's likely kept seperate from moving parts s I've said before. For another, if the part is mandatory by law, it's likely that insurance will start covering it in thier policies (which could be why they've given a year before the new law comes into effect) Thirdly, if the system that makes the pedestrian noise somehow breaks or stops working before then, you don't necessarily have to fix it anyway, unless the car doesn't function without it, in which case it would be easier to remove Finally, regardless of when the new law goes into effect, deliberatly removing or not fixing a pedestrian noise could be viewed as wilful negligence or refusal of duty of care if you get into an accident and have to go to court. If you're ok with the implied risks of your intended actions then don't let me stop you.

OP wants to run people over

Jolly-Accountant-722 2024-05-03 01:58

You said it's unnecessary crap. Thought it was an interesting fact.

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 02:03

No I don't...

Muncher501st 2024-05-03 02:07

Yeah ya do

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 02:13

No I don't.

Muncher501st 2024-05-03 02:17

If ya worried about one part don’t buy a Chinese electric car

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 02:18

Only worried about unnecessary complexity where it's not needed.

A_Ram 2024-05-03 02:21

in atto3 it was just a speaker under the hood that you could unplug. Probably the same in a Seal. I got an update a while back that makes pedestrian noise almost gone. There is probably a software update for your car coming soon that will make it super quiet.

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 02:24

Well I haven't got the car yet as this is one thing turning me off. Unnecessary "safety" tech that's not actually required, and is just designed to intrude into enjoyment of the car

Muncher501st 2024-05-03 02:28

Brother it’s a shitbox, ya gonna have bigger problems

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 02:36

Interesting, the owners groups seem in general happy with them?

A_Ram 2024-05-03 02:39

Oh then in a new version of the vehicle it will be almost gone. They tuned it all down after complaints so it is not intrusive anymore. I think from annoying there will be only traffic sign recognition that will beep once you are over the limit. This doesn't happen in atto3 because it was tested 2022 ANCAP and Seal tested in 2023. Line departure correction/warning for some can be a new experience but can be set to be quiet. After driving with it for a while I actually like it. It is when you get close to the lane it will gently steer you back. You will need to disable it every time if you go for a quick drive on twisty roads. If you 100% again all these features you can take fuses out in a fuse box and never worry about them again but adaptive cruise control won't work like this and no sign recognition. Sometimes it is handy to have the latest speed sign on your head up display. And taking the fuses out can potentially have consequences in case of an accident.

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 02:41

>in a new version of the vehicle it will be almost gone. Why not just remove it entirely if it's unnecessary? >If you 100% again all these features you can take fuses out in a fuse box and never worry about them again but adaptive cruise control won't work like this and no sign recognition. So pedestrian noise box is on the same circuit as the adaptive cruise. Interesting.

A_Ram 2024-05-03 02:49

They are not unnecessary. A quick and silent 2tonne car is a safety hazard for unaware animals and people. And it is annoying when you drive behind a group of people slow in a car park because they're not aware of you and beeping is a bit too much in this situation. You ll understand once you get into EVs No pedestrian warning is a speaker under the hood and fuses for ADAS (Advanced driver assistence systems) systems

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 02:55

>They are not unnecessary. If they were a necessary safety feature, they would be required by law. The fact they aren't means they aren't necessary. >when you drive behind a group of people slow in a car park because they're not aware of you and beeping is a bit too much in this situation Just lean on the horn. It's what I do. >You ll understand once you get into EVs I don't understand what you mean by this remark. >pedestrian warning is a speaker under the hood Ahh, so it can just be unplugged, or does it need to be coded out?

A_Ram 2024-05-03 03:12

A pedestrian warning system will be required by law this or next year. Australia as usual behind and wants to align it with United Nations Regulation 138/01. How would you feel if you walk to your car and someone honks right behind you. a sudden and loud sound will scare anyone. If not a heart attack you'll be I bet very displeased. What if it is an elderly woman. It is not decent to do this and I wouldn't risk it.

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 03:14

>A pedestrian warning system will be required by law this or next year Next year. >How would you feel if you walk to your car and someone honks right behind you. a sudden and loud sound will scare anyone And? Probably best to not walk into traffic and be aware of your surroundings. >What if it is an elderly woman Then it's an elderly woman. Could be an elderly man. Could be an elderly non-binary individual. I don't think gender would be relevant. >It is not decent to do this and I wouldn't risk it. Ok, so I follow slowly behind. Nothing in life is worth rushing for, we all have the same destination ultimately.

Muncher501st 2024-05-03 03:59

Yeah cars been out of like a year

That_Car_Dude_Aus 2024-05-03 04:02

So how do you know it's a shitbox?

SexyDraenei 2024-05-03 04:28

speaker is in the front just below the covers. You can unplug it easily. (Mine doesn't even make the noise, so...)

SexyDraenei 2024-05-03 04:29

its for new models introduced from nov 2025 and all cars sold from nov 2026

SexyDraenei 2024-05-03 04:29

I think they turned it off in an update. mine doesn't do it.

Doctorgow 2024-05-04 01:01

Yeah mine has never worked since I picked up the car three weeks ago, don’t want to go and ask because I kinda prefer it off but curious as to why it won’t work

No. You are in a sub for a specific county, don't complain when people speak the language of that country.
