BYD Sealion 7 Center Console/Screen
Hi all, this is a long one, so thanks in advance if you read through it. My dad has worked hard his entire life, and I wanted to thank him by buying him a new car. I initially booked the Model Y AWD from Tesla because I liked the idea of having AWD for myself to enjoy occasionally. I placed the order before test drives were available in Cairns. When test drives finally opened up, I took Dad along. He genuinely was not impressed. So we started looking elsewhere. We then test drove the BYD Sealion 7 Performance, and that completely changed things. The speed, the comfort, and the overall driving feel were on a different level. It felt like a proper, solid car. I had some hesitation about Chinese reliability at first, but after reading multiple reviews and articles suggesting it was selling well and generally reliable, I decided to go ahead. I ordered the Sealion 7 Performance in Shark Grey, cancelled the Tesla order, and lost the cancellation fee. Not ideal, but I accepted it. We took delivery on 5 September 2025 and everything was great. Dad drove it around 13,000 km over roughly 3.5 months, I know it’s a lot but he was like a teenager again driving his car around, and then on 22 December 2025 the issues started. The main centre screen went completely blank and the car went into what they called limp mode(I’ve seen that issue on this page). I was able to reset the instrument cluster by pressing the reset button on the centre console, but the main centre screen would not come back on. I couldn’t change the aircon temperature, car play etc nothing worked. The car still drove. Strangely, the screen worked when the car was in reverse, but not in neutral or drive. That tells me there is clearly an electrical fault somewhere. Because it was Christmas week, I took the car to the dealership on 27 December 2025. They said they would fix it as soon as possible. I waited for an update but did not hear anything, so I returned about a week later and left the car there, making it clear I would not collect it until it was fully resolved. To their credit, they initially loaned me a Sealion 7 Premium in black, but they needed it back after about a week as they were using it for customer test drives. Since around Australia Day, I have been driving an Atto 2 instead. The dealership keeps telling me that a part has been ordered from China, apparently worth around $8,000, and that once it arrives the vehicle will be repaired. But at this stage, I am honestly over it. I have owned the car for 5.5 months, and I have been unable to use it properly for almost 2 of those months. That is a significant portion of ownership for a brand new vehicle. Every week I am chasing the dealership for updates. It feels like a waste of time and energy. They also claim they have never seen this issue before, which I find difficult to believe. It seems unlikely that this is the only Sealion 7 with a fault like this. My uncle has an ATTO 3 and it drives seamlessly. I am normally not someone who complains and I am usually easy to deal with. But in this case, I am paying a lot of money for something I cannot even use. At this point, I would rather return the car entirely. Has anyone else experienced similar issues with the Sealion 7? Photos are attached for reference. I should have taken more pictures but these are the only ones I have. What are my options? I have emailed BYD Australia too but surprise surprise, no response! https://preview.redd.it/0onobsyv6ekg1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc0f776c5771fc7a3adf61d152658f0786de5243 https://preview.redd.it/4sd6rsyv6ekg1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f293419f09bcb0b2cffe5baafea489feb3ef3f17 https://preview.redd.it/0u973vyv6ekg1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=258685da76d144d2f9b99b5fda5caa60791041cc https://preview.redd.it/nqmnvvyv6ekg1.jpg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=780fc4c4dcd0ad3815900852b4deb9a6bcc847db https://reddit.com/link/1r8rg28/video/u2v32l3x6ekg1/player
