Weird. I didn’t know a car could be sold without.

ewan82 2026-02-13 04:40

That rules out the uber driver market.

AssignmentDowntown55 2026-02-13 04:43

All the high end and limited edition cars dont have it. You need to supply 6 cars to them to destroy. Ferrari, Porsche, Rolls aren't donating 6 vehicles to get a rating.

JanosCastel 2026-02-13 05:26

You would expect with this model, BYD will be after that market

ewan82 2026-02-13 05:27

Yeah it’s the perfect uber car.

zedder1994 2026-02-13 06:14

A lot of cars are never tested. Australian Design Rules (ADR) are the main criteria for when a car is allowed to be driven on our roads. A lack of a ANCAP rating or even a terrible rating by itself would not stop any car that complies with ADR to be sold here

Fuzzy-Satisfaction37 2026-02-13 08:33

No DC charging and AC limited to 3.3 kWh, it’s not really a high use design.

Relevant-Priority-76 2026-02-13 09:59

Car is positively acient and not in production anymore for the Chinese market. It’s really not worth the effort of making ANCAP ready

Timbox94 2026-02-13 10:01

Any idea if/when the Atto 2 will be rated?

Present_Toe_3844 2026-02-13 13:33

When I learned what it was, I knew it didn't matter that much... For example, for 2025 model: Does it have ABS, EBD, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Pedestrian Detection etc etc etc. to get 5 stars, the cars need to have this.

Eastern_Direction908 2026-02-13 23:47

It has reached the point where not having an ANCAP is a positive thing. If it means not having to comply with all the ridiculously distractive "safety features" then to me that's a selling point

Sensitive-Pool-7563 2026-02-14 02:14

‘a ANCAP’

Saurta17 2026-02-14 03:28

yeah, I make mistakes, is there a problem with it?

Sensitive-Pool-7563 2026-02-14 03:32

Did i state there's a problem with it?

thenimrodlives 2026-02-14 09:58

That's why the ANCAP rating lost all meaning. It should be purely about crash worthiness. The rest is pure crap.

berniebueller 2026-02-14 10:01

Ever since most cars started getting 4 and 5 stars, people just went…..those super cheap Chinese cars have the same stuff and more, forget ANCAP.

Relevant-Priority-76 2026-02-14 10:15

Quite a few cars lost stars for how poor them performed in the actual crash test past. This car being so old would likely struggle in that department, ticking the assist boxes would be the easy part

NewBuyer1976 2026-02-14 10:22

Wait wait, so they’re only cranking these out for the export market?

Relevant-Priority-76 2026-02-14 10:28

Yeah pretty much, Sealion 6 Chinese equivalent has also past its used by and was retired

solidice 2026-02-14 11:51

I see so many cars with a 5 star rating, yet have driver monitoring systems which are by far more of a distraction than phones!

Complex86 2026-02-14 11:57

i think its not a good look for a mass produced average car to skip this rating though

BayswaterMorris 2026-02-14 15:33

Kgm rexton as far as I'm aware is unrated.

Ok-Response-839 2026-02-14 18:54

It was released in 2019 so not exactly ancient, but yes it is an export-only model since last year.

TheUnknown_1000101 2026-02-14 22:27

I remember GWM coming into the ute market with their cheap new utes, then they got a 1 star ancap rating. New cars are definitely overpriced, but the cheap side definitely makes me wonder about what value you don't see us being cut

Tough_Common_9140 2026-02-15 03:55

Do some research dude... they HAVE to in the eu.

Tough_Common_9140 2026-02-15 03:57

Your crap attitude implied you did...

Sensitive-Pool-7563 2026-02-15 05:09

What is this ‘crap attitude’

Vex08 2026-02-15 06:27

Apparently it’s ANCAP, not BYD that is the holdup.

Vex08 2026-02-15 06:27

Apparently it’s ANCAP, not BYD that is the holdup. ANCAP not keeping up with the amount of new Chinese cars in the market.

Ancient_Skirt_8828 2026-02-15 06:47

I'm pretty sure there cops weren't allowed to buy a car because it didn't have a 5 star rating. Iirc one of the requirements for 5 stars is that they have reading lights in the back seat.

scissormetimber5 2026-02-15 07:39

Didn’t realise ANCAP was a legal requirement in the EU.

positively-bonkers- 2026-02-15 09:33

Thank you for your incredibly insightful and well justified comment that everyone asked for. You’re clearly well educated in this area.

thenimrodlives 2026-02-15 09:45

Cheers bro. Means the world to me.

Toowoombaloompa 2026-02-15 10:07

I bought one of the first GWM Cannons before the ANCAP results were released. It got 5 stars but only after the headrests and steering column were redesigned. Credit to GWM: they recalled all pre-ANCAP models and swapped the parts out. So mine is technically not a 5-star car but is mechanically identical to one.

Toowoombaloompa 2026-02-15 10:10

Nissan never bothered getting the Y62 (2010+) Patrol tested.

Available-Log6733 2026-02-16 04:00

Death trap. Good luck Mates

Aggressive_Metal_233 2026-02-16 05:20

Why would the EU care about ANCAP?

IcyBlast001 2026-02-16 05:58

Would you like some human rights violations to go with that? [https://www.reddit.com/r/AustralianEV/s/fOwumRG8bL](https://www.reddit.com/r/AustralianEV/s/fOwumRG8bL)

Fictitious-Fighter75 2026-02-16 11:46

yep 💯  ANCAP care more about keeping themselves relevant than they do about actual end-user safety.

randomblue123 2026-02-16 13:41

That's just government procurement rules. The government choose to make that a condition of the process.

Anxious-Rhubarb8102 2026-02-17 03:45

Yes, turn you head to check properly what's out the sides of your car and the driver monitoring goes stupid in some cars. Mirrors are a help but not the primary way to see what's around you.

TheUnknown_1000101 2026-03-02 06:09

I'm talking the very first, before Great Wall Motors changed to GWM (I know they're the same, but they rebranded) I'm thinking the Great Wall V240

Toowoombaloompa 2026-03-02 08:32

Are you basing your opinion of modern car safety on a 16 year old ute?

TheUnknown_1000101 2026-03-03 00:57

Not at all, have a look at my original comment about me remembering when they first came into the market
