Hey BYD - Fix your support

ED_Churly | 2026-01-27 23:03 | 71 views

Got hit with the TBox issue, called the local dealer and its 1 MONTH to get it looked at. That's not repaired, just to assess. Then its whatever it takes to get it fixed. I expect this will now take 2-3 months to get fixed, minimum. This is not ok. God forbid it was an issue that resulted in the car being unusable.

Seems to be a big issue with Shark and Sealion 7

Well, it's improving. Before, it was a 6 months wait

btherl 2026-01-27 23:38

Can I ask where you are? The dealership in Werribee says they do servicing in-house and don't have any issues with delays.

ED_Churly 2026-01-27 23:39

South Australia and all dealerships apparently are seeing similar wait times.

Sharpy077 2026-01-28 00:07

I had my TBox replaced yesterday in Port Melbourne yesterday for this exact issue. It was about 3 weeks from identifying the issue then another month wait to book it as I needed a loan car. They hey told me all software updates were done. As soon as I picked up the car and turned it on it was still pending OTA software update. I pointed this out to them before I left and they said they just updated the modules but went home and tried and the software update to v3.0.0 and of course it failed.

Mundane-Fox-9882 2026-01-28 00:26

it shouldn’t even be a months wait

Modern ice cars have telemetry/mobility modules also... I dont think this is an ICE vs EV issue. Just BYD's telemetry modules seem to suck.

asdfcosmo 2026-01-28 00:35

What’s crazy is that the T Box is a known issue, why it needs 2 separate services/appointments is beyond me. Surely their systems should be set up so you bring your car in once the T Box is available to be installed. It’s a waste of everyone’s time to require an assessment and THEN to wait to get the item in.

I intend to ask if they're going to extend my complimentary 2 years of mobile service due to the failure. I suspect I know the answer already.

Xerun1 2026-01-28 00:44

Can I ask what the TBox issue is? I have an Atto3 which has been intermittently unable to connect to the app for about 4 months and I am wondering if this is related

ED_Churly 2026-01-28 00:46

TBOX is Telemetry Box (I think), its what connects the car to the mobile/cellular service and has a SIM inserted in it. Its a common failure in BYD's it seems.

Xerun1 2026-01-28 00:47

Cool. So likely that. I’ve had it serviced twice and they’ve not found any issue. So annoying if it is this and a well known problem

Interesting_Ad_1888 2026-01-28 00:53

Kek. You didn't think about this before buying the Chang Wang 3000?

C-J-DeC 2026-01-28 01:03

By the time these issues are sorted out, the crappy Chinese steel will have rusted out your very expensive EV. Why do you people keep buying these ridiculous cars ?

Sample-Range-745 2026-01-28 01:33

Are they EV Direct operated dealership or a BYD owned one?

Gluodin 2026-01-28 01:43

Yeah I think it heavily depends on where you are/who your dealership is unfortunately. I had an issue with Centre console and presumably TBox (both completely dead) within 1 week of getting the Atto 1. Dandenong service centre in Victoria took it the day after I reported the issue and took 2 weeks to repair it under warranty.

Sharkgyna951 2026-01-28 02:09

For issues with poor service from Service Centres which are mostly EV Direct run dealers give feedback via the app. My Account / Contacts Us With the in-housing of the distribution the app is now run by BYD, also they manage the parts warehouse and importantly have dedicated people who manage dealer service performance. They welcome both positive and negative feedback about their dealers. Give it a go and at worst let BYD know that their service agents aren't up to expectation.

thewall1919 2026-01-28 02:16

True but it's a new brand that in the last year realeased multiple models and opened multiple dealerships. It also became byd and not some shady importer only last September. Reducing time from 6 months to a month this quick is pretty good in my opinion. It will definitely get better

thewall1919 2026-01-28 02:18

N1. Why are you here? N.2 These issues are crappy sim releated issues. The car still works without their own sat nav, you can use google or apple. Ice cars would be stranded

CertainCertainties 2026-01-28 03:34

You ok? You seem to be lashing out as if in pain. I get that, say in places west of Brisbane in a rural area, you encounter lots of Sky News and fossil fuel lobby talking points about EVs and the Chinese government. Fair enough. But why troll a sub with that propaganda when people are just talking about their cars? That's just mean. Hope things get better for you.

Gloomy-Werewolf-9667 2026-01-28 04:45

Because your car is old. All new Toyota's have over the air updates for software. And the updates are optional you can still use the car as a car. The crap that spews out of the mouths of you close minded fools is insane.

EggplantEmoji1 2026-01-28 04:55

Hi. This is Derrick from BYD support. Thank you for your comments. We always come to reddit for advice on how to do our job. Regards Derrick

Carmen_Bonkalot 2026-01-28 05:17

A 6yr old car would still get software updates. The person you're responding to hasn't a clue.

s3ik0 2026-01-28 05:17

Without knowing their network setup, the dealerships probably get to charge 0.5hrs diag to BYD. The dealership will gladly inconvenience you for that $$d

Necessary-Yak-505 2026-01-28 06:42

Why would ice cars be stranded?

Necessary-Yak-505 2026-01-28 06:51

Because theyre brainwashed lol, they dont even have the balls to respond, they just flock to the downvote button Go ahead zombies, downvote, doesnt make your loan any smaller, or your car any more reliable :)

Gloomy-Werewolf-9667 2026-01-28 06:52

True my 2020 Cerato gets software updates. Not ota, but can and has been updated.

Necessary-Yak-505 2026-01-28 06:54

Is this serious 😭

Necessary-Yak-505 2026-01-28 06:56

thewall1919 2026-01-28 07:41

What's the bug?

thewall1919 2026-01-28 07:46

Issues about ice cars are more mechanical, this is a sim card problem

goshdammitfromimgur 2026-01-28 07:58

Pretty sure a T box issue wouldn't strand an ice car. The on board GPS isn't a critical system in any car.

ED_Churly 2026-01-28 08:37

Its dripping with sarcasm so I say not. But when BYD followed up with me after the purchase, I was wanting to provide some feedback about the ADAS systems. They even suggested to post it the forums as they are regularly checked by BYD. I'm also hoping exposure drives them to improve even a little.

ED_Churly 2026-01-28 08:38

EV Dealer Group.

marshallannes123 2026-01-28 09:28

They are cheaper for a reason

thewall1919 2026-01-28 09:29

I have the same, and trying to update to the new firmware but don't mind at all. The only complain that I agree is the phantom breaking. The others: 1. I use mostly DAB and live in the city, dropouts only in long tunnels 2. As above 3. It does but I simply reset it holding down the volume button for 30 seconds and works again. 4. I put tape on the camera 5. Agree 6. I have dc charging 7. Yep, mine says is at 3.0 but nope.

Dimathiel49 2026-01-28 09:35

However, the Wallaby 400 I had before failed so badly the company stopped manufacturing completely.

AdAdministrative4388 2026-01-28 09:44

How many times a week do you fall asleep at the wheel?

Sample-Range-745 2026-01-28 10:35

That's explain it. Is there a BYD owned one you can try?

Usually happens after the warranty period.

Necessary-Ad-1353 2026-01-28 11:55

And people still buy them!

ED_Churly 2026-01-28 13:48

Unfortunately all dealers in Adelaide are EV Dealer Group.

Necessary-Yak-505 2026-01-28 22:25

I think it actually very commonly does, especially when every company is already doing it.

GrouchyFlatworm1 2026-01-29 00:35

Mine took 6 months start to finish from diagnosis, part arrival and fix. This was last year and tbox was replaced end of October. Hasn't been any issues since.

Any_Wafer4787 2026-01-29 02:48

I dont mean to be that guy. You buy from a third rate (new ) vehicle builder and then expect the same buyer experience from the likes of Nissan Toyota Ford etc.. You ALWAYS get what YOU paid for..

thewall1919 2026-01-29 04:13

Fair enough, you seems to have more broken tbox. I'm good with what I've got and don't expect the company to be at good customer level services for at least 2-3 years.

yolk3d 2026-01-29 05:45

Doubtful. They’re a construction/engineering surveyor.

farqueue2 2026-01-29 10:38

My car as we speak no longer has a data connection as of today...

daven1985 2026-01-29 20:14

To be honest most car companies/dealers have insane wait times at the moment. I went to a Byron Hilton Toyota who handle multiple brands, just to get my seat belt looked at (wasn't locking) was going to be a month and a half wait.

ED_Churly 2026-01-30 00:36

I'm kinda ok with that for regular servicing, but warrantee claims should be resolved quicker. ACCC says "within a reasonable time", waiting months doesn't seem reasonable to me.

bladez_edge 2026-01-30 09:10

if it's over 2 years old you have potentially run out of data.

dragzo0o0 2026-01-30 20:36

If I try and book in for a service at my regular Ford dealer…. I’ll cop at least an 8 week wait. They wouldn’t even look at a “hey, something making a major rattling noise here, can someone have a quick listen / look and tell me whether it’s ok to drive or not?” For the same amount of time…

ED_Churly 2026-02-05 08:10

Just an update for anyone following along. After calling BYD and reminding them of Australian Consumer Law, the fix date as been brought forward 2 weeks. The dealership has also confirmed they have a spare TBox ready to go. Satisfied with this outcome. Moral of the story is know your rights. According to ACL, manufactures must remedy issues "within a reasonable time".
