BYD Australia Quarterly Sales by Model

Although dolphin sales aren’t huge I believe it is the highest selling small ev in the country.

This is super interesting. I'm hoping to buy a Seal soon and its interesting to see how much of the market it makes up.

Yep; BYD Dolphin 3248 sales in 2025, MG 4 2986 sales, Kia EV3 2597 sales.

Sedans aren't too popular these days, but it's noteworthy that BYD Seal sold more than half as many vehicles as Tesla Model 3: 3784 to 6617.

Not in Australia; BYD [may](https://www.drive.com.au/news/denza-d9-people-mover-still-not-confirmed-for-australia-even-though-its-ready-for-sale/) bring in the Denza D9 MPV, but that would be priced well above Kia Carnival and as such not really a competitor.

I posted a similar chart up to Q3 in r/CarsAustralia a few months back, but it was removed after I declined to provide several dozen links as sources, i.e. for each of the monthly VFACTS reports. The suggestion from the mods was that I collate them all in a document. Needless to say, that ain't happening.

I think dolphin is a bit underrated. With better tyres it’s a little rocket ship amd has solid range.

It's great to have smaller and cheaper vehicles available, but I suspect that the combination of Atto 1, Atto 2 and Dolphin may prove to be one too many such vehicles for BYD to sustain in the Australian market. We'll have to see how things pan out over the next 12 months.

Not BYD. Zeekr has a 009 if you keen on an EV MPV but, the reality is its quite a bit more expensive than the Carnival. Wayyyyyy better equipped though.

That small-ish SUV category is a rather popular one. Atto 3 is probably dragged down a little here by its long incumbency, relative to other BYD models on the local market. Also, some of the stylistic flourishes are a little polarising e.g. the guitar-string door pockets. Nothing a refresh wouldn't fix.

Excluding fleet sales the Shark 6 was the top selling ute and 4th overall vehicle sold last year.

I ordered the atto2 , Premium range, window.tint,. The range is less than other models Should be okay as a city car! Good price! Just waiting on the delivery

seals are by far the best BYD that i tried tbh The only issue with them is the terrible air conditioning. its just that everyone wants a 4wd these days

Can you tell me more about the bad air con? Ive never seen that in any of the reviews.

yeah, it just doesnt get super cold. Its 'usable' but a bit slow, and the fans in the seat help make up for it a massive amount. but its not really designed for those 40+ days. It will get to a point where you will be comfortable, but it will never make you 'cold', its definitely weaker than other brands. its quite a common complaint on bydseal subreddit tbh

Thats good to know, thanks. Im hoping to do a test drive on Saturday. Hopefully its a hot day and i can test it. I hate aircon making me cold, so as long as its cool im probably ok.

yeah, at worst its 2-3 months of the year where you are slightly less comfortable, and the remote has a button to pre-start the aircon to try and help, so i figured its not that much of an issue

Good reason to get the white version and pay for extra tint. Might consider the windscreen shade accessory ive seen advertised that is specific for byds.
