Been waiting for this: Australian-made bidirectional (V2X) EV charger hits the market

Since ATTO3 supports V2H, was waiting for a charger that is approved in AU market. Will be looking into this soon. IMO, this is a thing that will boost EV uptake. Rather than installing standalone batteries, EV's will become the batteries. Still costly at 10k, hoping that will come down, but, last year I got 3 quotes for battery and best was around 15k I do have 3phase, so not sure if thsi will work for me, as it notes is single phase. so likey need to wait a bit longer for 3-phase units. but, V2X it is starting to become a thing :)

fucking 11K + install though

yeah I know, but a year ago, I had 3 quotes for a battery system on my 3-phsse home. best one I got was 18k then, which was a hard no. Figured since my car is always standing here at night, near full battery, this is the way to go, so used that money towards my new EV I am hoping that V2H becomes more popular / demand rise, and cost can maybe come down...as more units start to compete https://preview.redd.it/9rvnmrhe6r3g1.png?width=999&format=png&auto=webp&s=5304e50963a029b1628002a5e0d1a334ce3a4842

still more than the proposed 11k. As far as I can see, the DC+battery is 15k->20k plus install costs., so a lot more expensive. https://preview.redd.it/iv6tisq87r3g1.png?width=636&format=png&auto=webp&s=31ffdaf1c478ad4e54666f37912f1012ef37af92

Much more affordable systems than Tesla out there.. But also, the Sig DC charger draws from the battery in DC so isn't a perfect solution either IMO

Yeah, my whole point/want is to not have an actual static battery, but use my car. I WFH. I travel at most 30km in a day (shops/school pickup) that's it. Car is kept at 90% -> 100% charge by using a 15A caravan port. So, for me the V2H setup seems ideal paired with my 9.4kw roof solar.

Don;t know what i am looking at. is that a bi-directional? If so, likely not legal to install if not approved on Western Australian power grid.

That’s the same as in the above article. Not is WA

I've just bought the zaptec go 2 for the same reason. It's approved for v2g using AC so will be capped at 7kw but is still waiting for final sign off next year before being available. It's also only $2k for the unit + install

Well, if you placed some more info on your claim initially, I would not have had to go search ;) extraordinary claims require evidence ;) Appreciate the elaboration.

I personally don't understand why anyone would want V2G.

proxiblue 2025-11-27 09:21

Oh, so that is the actual unit. Thanks for sharing. Can I ask what total install cost was?

Most are sold into the idea of chasing wholesale spikes. It used to be lucrative but has tapered off. I'm more invested in the V2H ecosystem too

Pretty sure that your car warranty is at risk if you pull energy from your car with that Sig. BYD have anointed Starcharge, but not Sig.

Just a regular ev install, approx $1000

Just FYI. Home batteries are rated for 10 years with warranty and last quite a bit longer usually. Car warranty is 7years. Does not currently include V2G/V2G. Using to power your home each night will increase number of battery cycles on your car. If car isnt home - no power during an outage If solar production dips but you still wanna run aircon and car isnt home and connected to house = draw from grid.  Not saying its not a viable option to replace home battery but just to take these things into account in your calculation.  My feeling is V2G will replace the need for a larger battery on your home but a home battery is still probably the most cost effective way forward.  Also we need all retailers to offer higher FITs at night not just the likes of Amber… then you can help recoup your costs on the car/charger

You mention V2G. I want V2H Not same thing, bu the principles stay the same. I am aware. My best quote (from 3) for home battery on my 3 phase power was 15 to 20k. (that was 1 year ago) Rather than spend that on battery and remain on ICE, I opted to push that money into buying EV, and then double it as battery on V2H. I drive about 100km in a week, if even that much. At this stage my ICE car was costing me 1k a year to keep running, it was 15 years old, and parts were failing. So, my goal is and has been to share the battery between car and home. BYD battery is for 8 years. By that time I am 65, and my plan is to buy a Winnebago around 60ish, rent out the house, pack up the dogs, and we go travel. So, my plan is to replace the EV with a Winnebago at that time. so the time frame for battery warranty works for this plan. I have been here 20 years, and not travelled more that 200km away from home, so I want to go see some sights, move around a bit, explore the country. \> If car isnt home - no power during an outage I see no reason my car will not be home, if I am not. so a non problem. I don;t disagree that home battery is ultimately the best option, but financially it was home battery, or stay on ICE, or EV and shared battery. The 2nd option fits my future plans better. By that time the solar panels will likely be defunct as well. All may be a moot point with ww3 looming as well.
