Sealion 7 - Worth waiting for 2026?

OppoDobbo | 2025-11-16 06:07 | 18 views

I'm keen on getting the Sealion 7, especially with the 3000 cashback offer. However, since 2026 is right around the corner, would it be worth waiting for MY26? Is it likely to bring minor enhancement? Given the Sealion 7 was released in Feb 2025.. is it likely they'll bring 26 out in Feb?

Got mine last month absolutely love it; previous car was a range velar . Anyways that call is yours … can you wait . Is there any major change you are expecting ?

How does it compare to the velar fit & finish wise? Is it a downgrade, given the velar is meant to be in the premium SUV segment. In terms of waiting - I don't have any real need to get it right now, but my current car is getting long in the tooth and economy has gotten worse, I'll be able to charge for free with my solar+battery. The current 3k cashback + novated lease just makes it a no-brainer but I'd hate to pull the trigger only for the next latest and greatest to come out immediately after.

Our other car is a fully optioned Defender, which I absolutely love. Two weeks into the Sealion and I love it too. It’s a lot of fun to drive, but I think the fit out is great. I’d say the Land Rover is slightly nicer, but really splitting hairs on it. Part of the reason we bought the Defender was of how nice the interior was. The other major capable 4WD options had awful interiors that looked like they’d not been updated in a decade or two. So for this car to be so close inside to a car that is more than double its price says a lot. I’ve been really impressed My kids actually prefer the BYD now.

Wow that’s high praises - I was also quite impressed with the SL7 but coming from a 15 year old Japanese car.. hardly difficult to impress me so it’s good to have a frame of reference from people who have experience with more premium vehicles. Curious if you ever cross shopped against Model Y and why you went the BYD route - doesn’t sound like pricing would be a factor.

Word on the street is that BYD are releasing their new solid state battery next year which will hold a lot more charge than the current battery. If you can wait it will be a big upgrade. Got a BYD this year and love it. Do you want the thing or will you trust the rumors of an internet stranger?

Sealion 7 hasn't been released for long the 25 and 26 models will be exactly the same, it it not due for a model update.

I got told on Friday when asking in sales office if I should hold off for MY26 model that they probably won’t be available in Oz until around May. Given my interactions with that sales person to that point, I have no reason to believe that he was trying to lead me down the path but ymmv I guess (I ended up ordering SL7 that day.)

Multiple friends have a Y, which maybe subconsciously was enough to put me off. They've also been bitching about how high the insurance is on them. One of them ended up selling + getting a new because the novated lease offer Tesla offer meant it'd be way cheaper than their existing finance + the huge jump in insurance. I also just find them a bit plain these days they've become so ubiquitous. I liked the styling initially, but now it strikes be as featureless and boring. And then the whole Elon factor doesn't help. So lots of small reasons why I didn't find it appealing, and not much to swing it back.

I'm on the same boat - we are planning to replace our aged tiguan with an EV and we are currently test driving all brands but now shortlisted pretty much down to SL7 / seal. Except that we went to check out atto 2 last Sunday and surprisingly it was pretty much the same size as the tiguan, and really good price! So we are now waiting for sales on atto 2 (we are not in a hurry so maybe wait till end of next year). If you already have a car I would suggest waiting, as the Chinese version has Disus which is heaps better than the current suspension on SL7.

not sure why you got downvoted but for some of us it's a valid option. I'll wait.

I’m married to a Chinese woman whose brother literally works in a major car manufacturing company. The people downvoting are morons.

dinosaurfriends 2025-11-23 07:48

Hey dude, how’d you go with getting a dash cam? We were quoted 1888 very expensive through dealer

I was offered the GNET G-on4 Fr&Rr 4k (Large Battery) from my Richmond VIC dealership for $1,742.73. It's a South Korean brand, not Chinese. Premium video quality with SONY STARVIS image sensor in the front camera, features Ultra-HD “4K” resolution (3840x2160p) recording.
