Re German Vs Chinese, we recently made switch from high end Audi to BYD. We miss the badge and status but now I'm a fan of BYD in general. I learned I've been ignorant for years and had a sudden realisation in 2025. Now I also think differently. To me the future is clearly Chinese car manufacturing and acceptance will be forced to everyone by market. So Chinese badges will only get more respect from here on

"That and the fact my better half does not want to touch any Chinese EV with a 10ft barge poll"
Pretty rich statement coming from a Cherokee owner.

Denza is going to be marketed as the luxury BYD. Like Lexus is to Toyota. Expect to be paying in the low 100's when the price comes out.

Wow - did not expect it to go into 6 figures.
That's going to put it on par with the new classe BMW. No contest.

Yeah I hear ya. JEEP has been the butt of jokes since a bad run in 2014-2015 (mainly with the diesels).
But our own experience has been pretty decent, and we've had two GC's since 2015).

Have a look at Zeekr 7X. At the launch event in Australia they were showing off the off-road capabilities. Air suspension can be raised for more clearance. It is not going to be a true 4x4, but seems capable. And the range is very good, charging speeds are on another level. BYD needs to up their game to compete.

You own a Jeep, and want to go for a BYD? Far out man, must be a glutton for punishment!

Honestly, if you put aside the whole ‘made in China’ label for a second, BYD’s EVs are genuinely strong performers. And it’s not just BYD — a lot of the other Chinese brands are making real progress in EVs too.
That said, after-sales service here in AU is definitely the sore spot (I’ve felt it myself). But I do believe it’ll get better as the network grows and more cars hit the road.
If Denza brings proper support locally, it could be a really solid option.

Personally I'd be prepared to give them a red hot go (I did have the Sealion 7 in my sights for a while). But as a one car family, it's going to take some convincing for the other half.
I wish Ford could offer the Everest in a PHEV but there's no plans for that anytime soon. But the hardware you get for $80k is pretty damned impressive. More tech than our current Jeep too.

Is there a concern that there is a flurry of new EVs makers out of China right now, country of origin aside, is there is a risk of market consolidation in the near future? E.G. a car brand you buy now won't be around in 5 years for parts or service?

All depends on what we get for the money we pay for. I'm keen to inspect in person, test drive, and see figures then make my mind.

Looks are subjective, but anything should beat Prado look IMO. In terms of reliability let's wait and see, that's a question for me too; however, if it was bad then why would Toyota use BYD PHEV for their future cars, must be reliable enough for Toyota to go for it and accept the shame? There are over 150 car brands in China's domestic market. I believe only the winners will make it to premium global markets. If anything, that's a strong test already passed. Now BYD, Geely and others are simply too big to fail. My opinion, brand reliability and perception will uptrend for next decade. Surely there will be ups-n-downs with numerous news and scandals but the macro trend is only up in my opinion.

Interesting. Currently I view BYD as most interesting cart company. Fastest production car, fastest charging speed, fastest electric motor, cheapest EV ($9,900 Chinese model), widest range of cars(18 when I counted), top seller worldwide in terms of number of sales, until recently they had biggest car transport ship worldwide with BYD Baytery Powered electric sailing in Port areas. It's an amazing company that I only started caring for recently. Not saying there's no room for criticism but they're impressive enough already and I couldn't be happier with my purchase so far.
Zeekr 7x, off roading is realty not in the same league as Denza B5 and B8. They are proper offload with lots of off-road tech. I agree many people won't need that but still comparing apples and oranges.

Denza B8 is supposed to compare against Lexus LX currently $170k. The $100k mark will be bargain. Let's see what it realty is. I'm keen to inspect and test asap

I was invited to the BYD day locally in Brisbane where they showed all the Denza vehicles that will be coming to Australia. The Drone will be offered here as an option as we were told.
But then it was sales man telling us this so you could be right.
