🚗 Sealion 7 owners — what do you love (or hate) after 1,000km?

BYDREAMAU | 2025-06-19 08:27 | 29 views

Hey everyone! I'm based in Australia and just passed the 1,000km mark with my Sealion 7. Overall loving the experience, but a few small quirks popped up too. Here’s what stood out to me so far: **❤️ Likes:** • Smooth, quiet ride (even better than I expected) • Cabin layout and screen setup — surprisingly intuitive • Seats are super comfy for long drives **🤔 Could be better:** • Boot lip a bit high for loading • Wireless CarPlay still a bit glitchy sometimes • Regen braking in sport mode feels inconsistent Curious to hear from other BYD drivers — what’s been your best or worst surprise? Especially if you’ve taken yours on longer road trips. Let’s help each other out — real driver stories are way more useful than spec sheets! Cheers!

That’s awesome you’re looking into the Sealion 7! I’ve really been enjoying mine — smooth drive, comfy seats, and pretty good range so far. A few small quirks (like boot height and occasional CarPlay glitches), but nothing that’s been a deal breaker for me. If you’ve got any specific questions as you’re researching, feel free to ask — happy to share my experience!

ditto-kitto 2025-07-16 10:27

Thanks. What does the height of the boot affect? Anything in particular you're trying to fit? Also any issues with phantom braking or reverse and drive not activating properly? Did you consider making a new BYD Sealion Australia subreddit? Notice there are similar ones for other models but could be a good area for specific convos.

boot height — it’s not a huge issue, but the lip is slightly high, which makes it a bit awkward when loading heavier or bulkier items (like a folded pram or large cooler). If you’re lifting something frequently, it might be noticeable, but nothing that’s been a dealbreaker for me personally. Haven’t experienced any phantom braking or issues with reverse/drive not engaging — mine’s been smooth so far on that front. Would love to hear if others have had anything similar. And yes — love the idea of a dedicated Sealion Australia subreddit! There’s definitely enough interest building up, and it could be a helpful place to group all these region-specific quirks, tips, and mods.

I'm 4 months in and 8000kms with a SL7 Performance. Generally love the driving experience, great ride, comfy seats and handles well. Very surprised how well the A/C does on hot days given the online reviews all complained about it, mine is great! The ride is about 100 times smoother than my previous ICE car and I really didn't expect that. Here's some actual problems I've come across - ACC won't deactivate from the steering wheel button, CarPlay echo makes it unusable for calls, Siri is also unusable due to it cutting out, the shortcut buttons on the screen don't show up correctly straight away all the time, you touch the default button and then the shortcut changes to what you've saved it to - all are known issues with no current fix. Some general gripes - 1. I've been to 2 different tyre places a total of 4 times and they can't fix the vibration above 80kph. I'm convinced it's tyres but I'm not spending thousands on new tyres to find out. 2. I find it hard to get into the car due to the wide sills, especially the lip on the bottom of the sill. It also makes it hard to clean the sills as they get very dirty. 3. Sim turns off after an hour plugged in or I'm not sure how long not plugged in so you can't connect via the app to turn on air con and seats. 4. Due to 3 - the air con blasts you with freezing cold air for a few minutes till it warms up, can't believe a car this price doesn't have a simple software command to say don't turn on the A/C fan or even leave on low till the thermostat in the A/C detects warm air. 5. The phone based customer service while being easy to talk to, just rely on a computer prompt to assist you. The standard answers are - reset, reboot or take it to the service centre for a scan. That might be fine for those that aren't an hour away from the closest service location. They also can't tell you about software updates or progress of known issues. 6. No OTA software updates yet, no one can explain why. Have to go to a dealer and they have to book it in and leave it there for 4 hours minimum for them to even check anything or check for a software update. If I had my time again, I'd have bought an EV5 but I'm stuck with this for 5 years so hopefully they fix the CarPlay issues to at least let me make phone calls or use Siri.

Appreciate you sharing all this — a lot of your points really resonate.

My Sealion 7 is 2 weeks old and has 600 kilometers, so far everything is normal, I just don't know how adjust the "trips". I am José from Costa Rica. Greetings

What’s everyone’s range they are getting mixed highway and town

BYDREAMAU 2025-09-19 06:37

Getting about 450km mixed. City’s fine, highway chews it up a bit quicker though.

Hi guys Any thoughts byd selion 8? Looking forward to buy

Public_Ad_1993 2025-10-21 00:49

Around town in peak hour I coul;d crack 550km. Highway 450km, it depends on speed, flat or hilly. Just did Melbourne to Yarrawonga and averaged 18kwh.

I haven't been disapointed after 8600kms. I didn't expected the BS Km they claim. My pet hate is the "Cabin Perception" which I turn off before I drive anywhere. Tailgate is hit and miss, I get it to open with my foot about 90% of the time. I haven't had issues with my car play. I have had the system lose sound and I had to reboot it. Charging my car off my solar system has been great. I have a direct line (32amp own fuse) use an EVSE Ocular 7kw chargng station. I can vary the output and if I am in a hurry at 32amp and if I have no plans I run about 12amp. Bluetooth and I can program it overnight to get off peak rates if required, I am learning how far I can go on the highway is fun. I just did Melbourne to Yarrawonga and was worried about charging. In the end I stoppped at BP Pulse Glenrowan and had a feed and charged up there. Melb Cup weekend I am doing Melbourne to Echuca so from the Yarrawonga trip I am now prepared. Plan the trip and pick a rest stop. Note: You can use Tesla chargers it just cost more as you are not a Tesla owner. This opens up a lot more charging stations. My old ice car the fuel guage would drop slowly to half a tank and then fast to empty. My SOC goes down quickly to 70% and then seems to slow. I had a slow car pulling a caravan (80kmh) on a highway on a long straight road. I was about the 6th car back and no one would overtake so I pulled out in sports mode and put my foot down. Wowee I was past that fckr in no time. It seems quicker than my I30N as it's instantaneous as soon as I hit the gas (ha ha). No update as yet but still have 6 days. I have compared mine to my friends Telsa and anothers Geely EX5, The Tesla is faster but that has the dual motor but overall the SL7 feels more refined. The Geely is nice but we all agree the SL7 is bang for buck the better car. Takes me to retirement and who know's what's available in 5 years.

At about 6000kms now. Sealion 7 performance in QLD Aus. So far so good.. love how smooth and fast it can get. Love the face i can set a time for the ait con to turn on before i get to the car, I do it this way as i dont get to use my phone at work to remotely turn on the air con. Charging the car for free as much as i can with home solar, otherwise i charge at night with a good price from the AGL EV plan. I've never once used the fast charger outside before.

Has anyone had the vibrations at 100km per hour problem?

Unlikely-Librarian35 2026-01-08 18:45

I hate its suspension on low bumps or roughness. Feeling of strong vibration from the back. Hits my brain straight :) Anyone experience the problems with suspension? Besides, I did not like how parking assist works while driving forward. It does not work peoperly.

We have the bog standard version. Great to drive. I have the “disable all the annoying safety stuff” down to a few seconds. AM radio reception is rubbish, but covered by CarPlay. The range isn’t quite what is advertised, but I’m charging during the day off PV panels. Oh, and plugging into the wall is very, very slow. We have very few daily trips more than 100ks so, it has been great. When I have a longer trip and a low charge, I take it to the public charger in town. $15 for a 20-30% top up and a really nice brewery just down the street. Win-win. I have more than a few mates doubting our choice; I just say “they’re not for everyone.” Now I rue driving our ICE car… And don’t get me started about the performance. Scary fast, if you want it. I love it.

LawfulnessBoring9134 2026-01-12 07:15

Nope.

LawfulnessBoring9134 2026-01-12 07:17

I literally upgraded from my 1975 Holden Torana. Vibrations…?

Unlikely-Librarian35 2026-01-13 15:37

Yes. Vibrates from behind on small potholes. Idk whether it is a Michelin Pilot Sport EV issue (being a sport performance tire) or the suspension works like that. But its acoustic comfort is very low

Hi

SmartGarbage6811 2026-03-09 00:19

The Apple CarPlay functions are annoying! The media still plays when Siri is listening for a reply to messaging and picks up the songs as the message. It also doesn’t play messages fully as it gets cut off most of the time. If only the console can completely silence background music and sound when listening for a reply or command for Siri that would be great.
